grades > health

Too grade focused. I understand the whole point of school is to learn however the pressure hayesfield has is extreme!
They prioritise grades massively over the individual and their mental health. When I was in year 9 they said I wasn’t allowed to stop doing a language and change to child development despite me never being in the lessons due to anxiety attacks and meltdowns. They said reason they wouldn’t let me was because my target grade was too high even though they knew the struggle I had with attending the lessons. Luckily after a battle with my mother (which wasn’t necessary) I got moved to child development and ended up getting an A* in it at gcse.
When it was near the end of year 11 I told a staff member that I was planning to go to college and after I told them my predicted gcse grades they told me I should stay on for sixth form. Luckily I continued with my plan and went to college which was an amazing experience for me and a form of education which I actually enjoyed!

After a few years of not being at hayesfield and my anxiety continuing (but nowhere near as bad) I have got referred for a potential autism diagnosis! I feel like the school could have picked up on that despite the 5 years of me obviously struggling, especially considering they have a SEND team!

Overall I’m very glad I never have to go back there!

STAY AWAY IF U WANT TO KEEP UR WILL TO LIVE

This place makes me want to kym everyday. They only care about how they look from the outside point of view and doesn’t generally care for the students. They are way to strict on the uniform and they want to be seen as the“perfect” school when it really isnt. Don’t even start me on the teachers. There are some nice ones but most of them left. The teachers here are always moody and have no compassion and I get the vibe they don’t like kids. It feels like a prison there and they are trying to make us into copies of the perfect student and we are not allowed to be our own person.if u don’t get good grades. They don’t even help u learn if u don’t understand they just blame it on u should have been listening then they target you and suspend you. Some of the teacher r just nasty and treat u like shit and students get over sexualised we aren’t even aloud to wear our skorts around school that are part of the uniform bc they r “to revealing”. They only want money and spend all their money on personalised hayesfield books and at one point couldn’t even get us forks we had to use spoons or whatever they had and couldn’t buy glue stick And over price their shit food

gcse

one of the worst schools

this school is great if you want to send your daughter to a school that cares more about grades and rules more than the students that attend. the rules are way overboard and sexualise the girls, they are not allowed to wear the pe skort but only wearing the ugly tracksuits over top all year
round.

the schools vegetarian options are worse than disgusting barely even edible and the allergy options are extremely limited and should be set aside for people that are actually vegetarian and not the people that fancy trying it.

don’t even get me started on the pastoral team, they never listen to both sides and the blame always somehow gets pinned on the same person every time. although i have been told that the new pastoral member is nice and listens to the students.

most of the good teachers have been far gone and and now they are left with a bunch of miserable old sods and a few goods ones.

as i am a former student i can’t speak for the changes that the school has made in the year that i have left but i’m sure that barely nothing changed despite the promises that we’re made to make a difference.

although the education and the teachers knowledge are fairly decent this school was and is to this day one of the worst. the school building itself is rather nice but it doesn’t make up for the staff and treatment of the girls.

PASTORAL NEEDS SOME WORK

In my experiences of the school I’m not very impressed, they only seem to improve when there is visitors or ofsted is going around. My pastoral experiences are worse, I was accused a lot and some of the staff likes to assume things without hearing your side. I’ve been shouted at, accused and punished when in reality it wasn’t my fault. I was accused a lot for bullying because they just have to pin it on someone in reality the so called “victim” was being nasty towards me. They were not sanctioned but when I was in a similar position I was severely punished. How is that fair? Also if you don’t have enough money for lunch you can’t have lunch! They sexualise the students because the skorts are “distracting” so you have to wear joggers over them. If they were so much of a problem why did they make them? Yes they are good at the teaching part but the safe guarding is far from acceptable I was struggling in my maths work for 2 years and was never assisted I was also sanctioned when the teacher let US out early, who’s fault is that? The school are great at some things but there is a lot of places for improvement.

Don’t go if you have a disability

Very poor treatment of disabled students and poor communication with parents of these children. The academic side is fine.

Ridiculous

The school is ok I guess but when it comes to uniform they are too strict. Not being able to wear two rings, have to have blazer on in corridors, no makeup, skirts have to be knee length.
PE kit- the pe kit is ridiculous.. you have to wear a skort and then tracksuit bottoms over the top and have to wear it all year round.

Bullying- the school does not help that much with bullying all they do is give a detention/isolation to the person they think that did something.. the person that says something might not be telling the real story and when they ask the ‘bully’ to write a statement if the person writes something different to another person they will automatically get the blame for it and punished for something they didn’t do..

Overall the school is ok but wouldn’t recommend it that much.. I wouldn’t say oh send your daughter to Hayesfield it’s really good but in reality it’s not so good.

terrible school

hayesfield girls school is a terrible school despite the good reviews they thrive on bringing children down and girls feel suffocated IN THEIR LEARNING ENVIRONMENT. THE GIRLS ARE JUDGED for expressing themselves. The learning opportunities are minimal and the teachers give out punishments for any minor inconvenience overall the school has an unfair behaviour system where students are punished for small inconveniences that do not affect their education example not having ankles covered, too many earrings, wearing a coat around the premesis even with temperatures as low as 2 degrees .even their own uniform is sexualised . students are not allowed to wear a skort walking to and from school as its too "distracting"

They only care about grades

I was there for seven years. Tbh they don’t really value well-being or mental health. It feels like they view each pupil as a product of teaching rather than an individual with personal needs. They didn’t allow anyone to change their pronouns, which I guess is because it’s a girls school, but there are so many people that are mis gendered all day. They don’t make u feel very welcome or part of any sort of community.
Its like ur only there to get a grade the school can show off otherwise they don’t care bout u.

school

ridiculous

although this school gets great results, the actual treatment of the students is sub par. as a year eleven i am not coping and it is down to the school. not the fact i have a nose piercing, or i’m wearing too many rings, or that my hair is red like they want me to think. it is overwhelming and there is little to no actual support. a revision timetable won’t solve all my problems. and don’t get me started in the teachers. all the good ones left. seriously, all of them.

Great school

I joined in sixth form and can honestly say it was the best decision of my life. As someone who spends most of my time on the STEM campus, the students are without exception kind and welcoming. Teachers are extremely competent and I feel challenged and in good hands. The facilities are excellent. I haven't had a great experience with senior leadership but it's better than my previous school.

It comes with its pros and its cons.

Honestly, as a Year 11 who has never really been hugely involved with the school very much, I think the school is pretty average.

On the hole, the teaching is pretty excellent.
There will always be a few teachers who aren't as satisfactory, but I can definitely say I have a couple of favourites.

There is, though, a mountainous load of homework, especially in Year 7, and it's almost entirely irrelevant at that point.
It never really stops coming, frankly.

There's not much freedom and there are numerous petty rules that get tedious after a long while, such as no socks below the ankle, or no taking off your blazer.
They aren't a big deal, but generally make the school experience a lot less pleasant.

However, one of the main factors that really detracts from the overall quality is how the students are treated as a whole.
It's not great, speaking from someone who has spent the last four and a half years here.

It's not bad, per say, but there is definitely a huge amount of pressure on all the students.
There seems to be no easy way to get support from the staff in regards to anything, and although high expectations can be a positive, this school really pushes that past the limit.
It's suffocating.

This is partially why I don't have much intention of staying on for A-levels, despite the Sixth Form's outstanding Ofsted rating.
The other reason is that I simply want a fresh start.

Hayesfield is a nice enough school with great teaching and good facilities, but it lacks in a lot of the other components that make a commendable school.

Excellent school

In my 6th year here and couldn’t recommend it enough. Obviously there are problems like bullying but in my experience the pastoral team was excellent at sorting out any issues. As an all girls’ school we’re pushed to break stereotypes and I feel that the large STEM faculty supports students with this. There is a huge range of subjects available at A level and GCSE and lots of support from teachers for all subjects.

Although Hayesfield is a girls’ school, lots of students identify as transgender or non binary and as far as I’m aware all teachers use these students’ correct name and pronouns and ensure that fellow students do too. Although I’m not trans myself, this is really great to see and shows that Hayesfield is up to date and welcoming of all identities.

One thing I would like to mention is that our PE skorts and uniform skirts cannot be too long so they do not ‘distract’ male teachers which I think is ridiculous. If a man can’t not be distracted by teenage girls’ skirts then they shouldn’t be a teacher. This is the only thing I can say which is negative so apart from this the school itself is incredible and I really recommend it to anyone.

Bad experiences.

Worst school I have ever been to. Poor quality of teaching and awful at handling bullying. When I was attending this school, I was bullied 3 times. The pastoral team at Hayesfield always makes the real victim feel like the bully. Look, I’m sure some children at Hayesfield love it there and have had a great time, but, 3 of my friends all have had similar experiences to me and the school have once again failed to solve the issues.
