not a good scenar

the building is so easy to escape, rules are way to strict with jewlery and makeup/nail varnish and slightly incorrect uniform, children not aloud to use toilets and they care more about academics than mental health/bullying.they also serve uncooked chicken burgers

School environment breeds poor

School suspended my child for skipping lessons due to anxiety. Suspension happened to occur as Ofsted were due in. Which I believe was no coincidence. Suspension after February half term excludes any child from leavers do. My opinion of the senior management is they disregard children’s mental health for their own gains furthermore they create anxiety and low mood in children with an oppressive environment.

Mental health and wellbeing

Teachers and all other staff do not have the childs wellbeing or mental health interests as priority but if they did the grades for all children would have a better chance

DONT SEND YOUR CHILD TO MOSSLEY HOLLINS

This school caused me to leave the school as a completely different person then I was in year 7. I left with bad mental health which they do nothing about. I remember when I went to the obc crying my eyes out because something happened and they said ‘just count to 5 and calm down then back up to class you have exams to be focusing on’ because that more important than a 15 year old being upset to the point where they had to leave the classroom. Some teachers that I had left due to the school being a toxic environment to them as they were discriminated or not treated as they should be by higher ranking members! The place has only got an ‘outstanding’ ofsted report as they hide the problems. I knew and everyone knew when they were coming flowers went up and the ‘ naughty’ kids got the day off and the teachers were lovely to you when you were in class and also on the corridors.
And this new rule about no contact is a joke! how can you say that they can’t hug there friend while sad or crying! The only way I could calm my friend down when she was having panic attacks ( caused by stress out on by teachers and the school) was by a hug and consoling them by putting my arm over her shoulder.

PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD HERE!! Unless you want them leaving a completely different child you sent them in as! I realised how toxic it was when I left as I’m more confident in myself and can defend myself against others which I couldn’t in that building as were taught to never speak up !!!

DONT MAKE THE MISTAKE MY PARENTS DID

ABSOLUTELY SHOCKING
This ‘no contact’ rule is a joke. Your friend is sad? Sorry can’t hug you
Your friend has passed out? Sorry can’t touch you or is put you in the recovery position.
They are turning these young people into robots as if the new generation isn’t bad enough with their attitude they also want to make them emotionless.
I attended this school and I now have been diagnosed with an eating disorder and anxiety and depression (which I am now on antidepressants for) I can’t go a day with out that medication now, and I went through a stage where I could even look at the building without having flashbacks and panic attacks.
The obc and pdc are just rooms they needed to fill, the reason they were put there are not what they are used for.
Someone do a surprise ofsted inspection on this school so they don’t have a chance to get the ‘naughty’ children out so they can get a good review.
They are toxic and fake and I regret the day I ever stepped foot in that building.
Over my dead body are my children attending this school.

"A shockingly toxic environment"

DON'T SEND YOUR CHILD HERE IF YOU VALUE THEIR MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLBEING

Yes, the school may have an Outstanding OFSTED grade from an assessment 8 years ago, but it certainly does not reflect the scant regard the staff have for pupils and their mental health.

Child suicidal due to school stress and detentions? No problem - email school about it and they'll blame the parent instead, therefore deflecting the attention from themselves, involving social services and tell the parent the child MUST ATTEND DETENTION (which they term 'Nu-Hopes')

Teenage girl on their period, few minutes late to class due to visiting the W.C and in clearly upset? No problem - the teacher will not hesitate to dish out a detention!

Ruler on the floor under the desk, child picks it up? Half-an hour or a detention for this 'crime'.

These are all actual incidents.

This school - run by aspiring Hitlers on massive power trips - only cares about their reputation, their salaries and the data (attendance and exams) - at the total expense of the children's health.

A shockingly toxic environment - so much so, should have a warning on it, DANGER TO HEALTH.

Awful

I am a student at this school, and this school is just awful. They care more about results than our mental well-being, they do nothing about students who are suicidal, they send them home and just can’t be bothered to help them, I know this from people who have experienced this.

The school does nothing against discrimination and bullying and lets people get away with so many things. Students are caught vaping, destroying property and even smelling of drugs and have not been kicked out, just an isolation, the school views having chewing gum as worse as having illegal substances.

Last year a student , one of my oldest friends, died from cancer and the school has not done anything to support his friends, we were promised grief counselling and that never happened, I was expected to ‘deal’ with my grief and was told it wasn’t an excuse for my lack of focus in lessons. At the funeral the headteacher tried to get students to attend in school uniform.

The school does nothing against homophobia or transphobia, there were boos when we were told we’d be having a pride month assembly, some teachers even laughed along.

This school has caused people to have severe anxiety, depression and become extremely pressured to perform well in exams.

This school is overall not good, if any parents see this, don’t send your kids here.

Awful

I’m a year 10 student at mossley Hollins and it’s awful, this school is carried by an ofsted report from 8 years ago, it cares more about results than the mental well-being of the students, I myself have not been affected but it’s been awful for my friends (tw suicide) some of my friends are suicidal and this school has not helped that, all they school does to help is send them home and say it’s no excuse for poor learning, the staff cannot be bothered to help them, now not all teachers are bad some of them are genuinely nice.

Last year a student, one of my oldest friends passed away from cancer and the school has done nothing to support those close to him, they promised grief counselling, never did it, they never even had an assembly for him, at the funeral they tried to make everyone go in school uniform against the wishes of his mother. I once told my grieving was not an excuse for me not doing well in lessons, and people have made fun of him after his death and teachers don’t do anything.

Homophobic slurs and racial slurs are shouted all the time, I’ve heard them in corridors with teachers in ear shot. They have done nothing against discrimination. When we were told we’d have a pride month assembly, students booed, and teachers laughed along.

Some staff are nice but I feel like we are meant to believe our grades matter more than anything else. I always extremely anxious in case I forget something and we are told
to believe forgetting a pen is unacceptable and a 30 minute detention is an appropriate punishment, just don’t come here.

Teachers are disgusting towards students

If you care about your child’s mental health and well-being keep them far far away from this school. As a student I have been segregated ever since an incident in year 8 when the head teacher told my dad “she has no time for me” when he was only requesting that they look after me when I was at my lowest suffering from depression and PTSD.

Awful

From the moment attending this school in year 7, whether i noticed it or not, i fell into the feeling intimidation, pressure and worry i felt from this school. Despite the decent teachers and academics, the rules of this school have ruined my confidence and ability to function without feeling stress. The terrible attempt to understand students mental health and even basic rights is ridiculous. Students are not allowed to go to the toilet during lesson and are banned from all jewellery and makeup. this to me is dissapointing as you think the new female headteacher would be understanding of young girls who simply want to feel comfortable and confident in their own skin. We are also not allowed skirts which to me is extremely mysognistic as we havent been explained the reason for this, and on the subject of no explanation we have also not been explained the reasoning to have absolutely no phones, not even in our blazers even thought it is essential for young children to contact their parents when they get out of school and will face a 3 week confiscation. I havent talked to anyone who hasnt grasped onto the fact that this school creates very unnecessary rules and that all they want to do is control us and make us feel like we have to attend some sort of miserable prison everyday. Mossley Hollins priorities our appearance and formality (they have the the desire to make us look identical with the exact same perfectly presented uniform with the grey blazer for boys and purple blazer for girls) than our education, which says something as we do also feel a lot of stress when it comes to education and the 10 homeworks we are set a week. But one thing they do not prioritise is out mental health. The school does a horrible job is understanding our mental health and the fact the they a lot of the time mostly the trigger of bad mental health, for example anxiety and depression. Although the OBC and PDC is available, you need to aquire the 'time-out pass' and show you teacher before you go, and i can bet you will not be allowed without a diagnosis or excuse, even though many suffer with bad mental health and panic attacks which is a perfectly good reason to miss class. Not to mention the ineffective way they suggest to help with calming down which shows the lack of empathy and time they bother to put into children that need support. The cruel punishments of forgetting a pen, talking to your friend in class or forgetting you book at hone will lead to a half an hour detention with no questions asked and some things such as chewing gum will result in an isolation. You can in serious trouble for having your hair for example a certain, e.g. dying it a bright colour. This could result in a exclusion. There is so much i could say about this school which is unfortunately negative. Expectations are overwhelming and i was told a child was told by the headteacher that they would "let us down" by simply forgetting a pen, which to me is very harsh. Who are you trying to impress Mossley Hollins? Definitely not anyone who goes there.

Awful for mental health

This school has a huge lack of understanding and empathy. Even from the very first day of year 7 students are told that making basic human mistakes (such as forgetting to bring a pen) are unacceptable and will be punished by a 30 minute detention. The pressure is very intense and causes a huge amount of anxiety for students. The atmosphere is very unpleasant and stressful and the expectations are overwhelming. The uniform rules are ridiculously specific down to the brand and shade of the clothing, it is incredibly expensive and the girls and boys are separated by colour. If you are unable to acquire this specific uniform you will be punished by a detention after school or even isolation. No makeup is allowed adding to the self-esteem issues that are already enhanced by the schools immense pressure. On the second week of year 7 in an assembly the teacher read out of the names of everybody who had received a detention so far and shamed them when most had only received detentions for trivial reasons such as missing stationary. This school couldn’t care less about the students mental health abs there are very few resources for the students who are struggling, this is not the type of school where you would feel comfortable sharing your mental issues anyway. Phones are completely banned from the premises, students living far from the premises who need to contact parents are not taken into consideration, your phone can be taken for 3 weeks. Do not send your child unless you want them to develop severe anxiety and self-esteem issues.

Poor mental health provision

No provision for mental health support. They don’t tackle bullying at all.
To much focus on grades. The 5 years my child spent here destroyed her mentally. Couldn’t wait to leave. Also class of 2020 abandoned with no support or credit for their efforts. My daughter smashed her GCSEs, however no part of this is credited to the school.

please dont send your child here

i do not care how great you think this school is its not the staff (receptionist) do not communicate and a lot of the time do not do their jobs. one of the head of year seven told my child to "shut their mouth and grow up" some staff mistreat students and the school has limited access for people with disabilities or mental health problems. bullying is not sorted out at all and most students are bullied at some point during their time at the school .some teachers are unorganized and get things messed up my child waited outside the school alone for around two hours because reception had not told them to take the bus home because i was in work. there are very few places for students to go if they are struggling with mental health. the uniform rules are quite disgusting and i find it strange that in 2021 they still divide girls and boys by color. there is a lot of sexism within the school which is not dealt with. the school is very, very dirty in the bathrooms the walls are a brownish color when originally they were painted white. the good thing about this school is their sports facilities but again most people with disabilities wont get to participate in pe . overall i would not take your child to this school unless they have a lot of friends , have good mental health, are not girls, are not LGBT,okay with bullying people and able to be screamed at personally judged and mocked by teachers.i would also like to add a lot of students have escaped the school premise and have gone missing for hours then found again by their parents not the school.

Don’t care about students

I used to get bullied a lot in that school or feeling like the school wasn’t there for me . So I chose to go to the pdc even after being diagnosed with anxiety they gave me this about 5,4,3,2,1. Any child half way through a panic attack isn’t going to want to see 5 things and it’s just funny that they believe that children will be able to cope with that .

I was supposed to be going to the prom which we all knew wasn’t going to happen then they cancel it at last minute right after they told us to pay the full amount. Even though every other school had already cancelled now we can’t get any money back .

Bad for a students mental health.

Sure the students get good grades but they graduate completely different to how they were on the first day of year 7. I'm yet to graduate but so far I've developed severe anxiety. Both me and my best friend get bullied and despite reporting it to teachers nothing has been done about it. Every day I fear going to school because I know that if I had a panic attack in class the teacher wouldn't know how to deal with it. They have a room you can go to and some staff you can speak to if you're upset but most of the time they don't do a good job.

If you want your kid to hate themselves by the end of year seven then this is the prison to send them to.

However there are some things I like about the school, most of the teachers are nice, sure you have some strict teachers but so does every school. The food is amazing and every student gets excited when they serve chips. Classes tend to be enjoyable and challenging enough.

I also want to point put that most of the students think they have done a terrible job at managing coronavirus.

They'll chew you up and spit you out

Just had an 'awards ceremony' for the class of 2020 where I recieved the Learning Support award or something. The problem is, whilst I was there, they didn't do anything about it. It felt like they were trying to take credit for the growth I did by myself because they weren't there to help. All of my mental frustrations and personal problems were looked over in favour of good grades and making the school look better. It's an opressive place to be for key moments in development and I personally believe this school is part of the reason I have so many mental blocks and low self esteem.

tw mention of suicide
I wouldn’t recommend this school. They are classist and ableist. They tell you that your school is something that always comes first no matter what, even your mental health. For me, i have been pushed to the brink of suicide by the overwhelmingness of the school. I also hear slurs being yelled in corridors and lessons and the students facing no consequences at all.

Don't care about the students. They oly think about the results of the school. Wouldn't recommend to parents in the area.
Started quite happy, left with anxiety and depression caused by the school's mishandling of delicate situations.
