horrific

I went to Bryn from year 8-9 during the 18 months i attended this school i was
Physically Assaulted
Bullied
Harassed
Denied an IDP
The head of ALN was a sad old woman who liked bulling and upseting children the majority of times the TAs that worked in the ALN department were lovely a bit dull bit lovely and tired their best they need more training and the ALN department needs a new head.
If you actually need a half-decent education do not move here in the 18t months i was there i didnt learn anything in science, maths or english.
For the practical subjects like woodwork and food tech the teachers were great the tried their hardest with what they were given
The school premisis are not secure at all, you can easily hop over many fences and gates.
Outdoors is slightly better there is a running track and a 3G pitch (Neither was used often in the PE lessons when i was there)
The teachers were aweful, they were clueless, rude and wreckless
Indoors is horrendus in science held the taps dont work, the english block ios falling down and 'Red Brick' had rats in there last time I was there. The toilets are awful broekn locks, some even without doors.
If you want a decnet education dont put your child in this school

Decent

This school is alright. That's about it. The quality of teaching is alright and is unfortunately very dependent on the teacher. If you're lucky to have a nice teacher then you will be sure to have a great learning experience with lots of extra help and patience but some teachers are downright bad. I have one teacher (won't name names) who is the absolute worst. They make every lesson absolute hell and it is very obvious that they don't give a rat's arse about us or our education. Quite frankly I want to off myself everytime I step foot in the classroom.
One thing the school prides themselves on is their attitude to mental health. Honestly I think they are doing a good job from what I can tell. I've never needed to personally need it but there is pretty much access to a councillor all the time. Whether or not they are good I couldn't really tell you.
Food is decent. Some good things some awful things. One things for sure though is that the canteen staff are extremely rude.
The school itself obviously needs work. On the outside it is quite nice but the inside is downright awful. Especially the toilets. It's gotten to the point I don't use them in school they are so disgusting. I know that's also down to the students but it's still an issue. I will give it probs tho, the new Sixth form building is amazing.

Don't ever send you kid here

I'm going to move to a different school bc my life has been terrible since I went there. I'm in yr7 and I have terrible anxiety , you can sometimes go to the toilet but there's some strict teachers for example miss Evans is the worst teacher on the planet and will rush you to do you work and will keep you in if you don't finish.
They don't give one care in the world about your well-being
The food is way to over priced and in the cooking classrooms have bugs and lots of dirty pans and aprons and I told the teacher that there was bugs and just didn't care

Great school

Lovely school. Staff amazing (so nice )
Outside area is fab but the inside is not, it is disgusting rip walls and in English it feels like the roof will tear apart its noisy affecting education, secondly the safety is absolutely devastating , people smoke and vap behind the head teacher and there is always fighting and big scary stuff happening. Finally the canteen staff are rude and mean on portions food great đź‘Ť

GCSE

Not worth it.

Was in Bryn from Yr7-Yr11 and it does fuck all for mental health, more worried about making sure the school looks good. Students are normally not disciplined at all, their parents send them to this school and they learn nothing and cause hell for everyone. English Teacher I had in Yr11 was amazing and very caring not just to be but all her students, same with the lovely people in the support rooms. Haven’t been there in 2 years but am doing a lot better outside of it. Personally wouldn’t send my kids there only due to my past experiences with the some teaching staff, assistant head (not sure if she’s still there) and the kids lack of respect or self respect.

100% don’t recommend coming here

The school itself is terrible. The hygiene in the school needs major improvements, in the language block there are cobwebs in the corner of the room and spider both dead and alive by the radiators. And the toilets are something completely different. It gets to the point that they should warn you that as soon as you step inside the room you’re going to catch 20 different diseases. The floor is filthy and some of the stalls don’t even have doors on them. The only decent place that you can go to the toilet is science block, but only because it was renovated recently since someone set it on fire. The teachers clearly only went into teaching to make children cry as they love to pick favourites and expect you to know everything about the subject before even teaching it to you. Of course there are a few exceptions (shout out to my man Mr Beatie). But like I said most of them are pricks. My English teacher once kicked out a new student who clearly surfers with mental health issues and made fun of her in front of a class of brutal 14 year olds. They also claim that education is very important to them yet for an entire year the same 3 teachers would take me out of class every single day and lecture me about any detail of my uniform that they didn’t like. First it was my shoes because it had the tiniest bit of white on them, then it was my eye liner. They said I had to “set an example” to the younger years. And then for months on end they said I was wearing the wrong trousers. One of the biggest things that they struggle with is mental health. The councillor is a dumbass and fail to understand what the student is feeling or going through. I was once in mid panic attack and the school nurse did help me at all she just sent me to a room with another teacher who said nothing and also didn’t help me. Oh and when you come to the school and they tell you that they take bullying very seriously you might as well pretend they never said that because the amount of racism, sexism and homophobia I have both experienced and witnesses is pathetic. Not to mention the fact the teachers clearly pay no attention to it and let it carry on. So yeah i don’t recommend coming here because if we had access to the roof half of the schools population would be dead.

Makes me want to end myself

Absolutely garbage school, I have anxiety and have missed over a year of school and they have done nothing to help me or my friends, toilets are disgusting, missing doors on the stalls and also dirty, as well as the rest of the school, very dirty and probably not very safe considering the science department got set on fire not too long ago. Teachers are absolute snobs, don’t care at all about teaching or how their students are feeling, of course with a few exceptions, the school also cares way too much about the appearance of their students, with restricting makeup, coloured hair, coloured coats and jewellery, all of which do not affect mine or anyone else’s learning, it’s not distracting. Not gonna lie, heard some rumours that one of the maths teachers might be a bit of a kiddy fiddler but other than that not too bad. I’m currently almost a year into doing my GCSE’s and have still not learned where any countries are so thanks a lot. Overall very bad school experience and I can’t wait to leave this place behind.

needs work.

This is a good school and isn’t that bad actually but the corona plan was badly planned and poorly executed leaving students outside in the rain during breaks and lunch which was absolutely devastating , overall not a bad school however options for mental health help and discussion on the subject is very poor and should be talked about more widely I didn’t even know we had a school councillor till year 9 which is shocking considering I know many of my fellows who would have highly benefited from discussing these topics myself included . The toilets and food are mediocre to say the least and don’t add or subtract from the school . However the school code of conduct is shocking they preach about being yourself and being creative but restrict how we look in every way imaginable it’s awful it’s not like someone’s bright hair is gonna prevent me or my peers from learning , it’s not the person who has decided to be their true self is gonna affect my education which should technically be the priority but really isn’t because when you look at it rules and looks is seemingly the most important thing when in reality it does nothing for us academically except make us question who we are as individuals . Overall average school but education wise they aren’t that bad .

Home learning failure

The school has done very little in relation to home learning during the coronavirus and prior to the pandemic the top set in science all received less than a C in their mock which just shows the quality of the teaching

Bryn Celynnog school review

Teachers are lovely, classrooms are quite clean and tidy although they need some renovating. Toilets are absolutely vile and are in need of a new clean (dont enter if you dont carry a hazmat suit around with you). Overall pretty good school.
