A little rant

It's alright - education is informative, they provide a wide field of subjects for students to choose. However, this is greatly overshadowed by the quality of the school environment, attitudes of teachers, and the selection of captains/leaders within the school year:
- The school environment is the worst part, the school has done absolutely nothing to stop children form leaving classes to go vape outside the school and the bathrooms. The school is also bad when it comes to bullying, it's practically a slap on the wrist for punishment when dealing with actual crimes - a personal experience of my own, I was filmed for doing an innocent act outside of school grounds and this video was shared to students within the school, in which type students responded via harassment and being chased around the school halls. And what did the students get as punishment? (Bare in mind, he should have been charged for filming minors) A talk to the head of our year group and threats to take him off the football team, because that's what the school cares about most - their image.
- Moving on to teachers, you basically just need to get lucky when it comes to classes. For example, some teachers genuinely cannot teach classrooms and have been reported by pupils several times (unsurprisingly, the school does absolutely nothing). Another example, some teachers aren't qualified to do certain things e.g. the drama teachers cannot manage the stage technology; teachers cannot teach the technology team within the school to manage sounds, lights, etc, because the teachers do not know how to do it themselves. Another thing, subject choices aren't always the students choices, it's made by their teachers. They brag about being a rights respecting school, meanwhile they force some students to take subjects they dislike, because it's the "better choice for them", they steal their freedom.
- Finally, school captains/leaders, where do I begin? When it come to electing school captains in S6, candidates need to perform a speech in front of their year group as well as educate younger years about the school values (ambition, respect, community), and if they pass that test (yes, it's marked via points) they are allowed to move on to be interviewed for the role. When it comes to speeches, it may as well be a popularity contest; students votes for their friends and don't vote for the people they hate, without acknowledging what they would change as captain. From personal experience, even if you ace educating students and having genuinely valid points in their speeches, you could still be 4 marks off the chance to get to the interview and make it to the role. As of 2026-2027, the elected captains have been poor choices personally. Coincidentally, the elected captains/vice captains have completely acted their exams for the second year in a row (Great for school image -_-). Two of the captains/vice captains are also candidates for dux (pretty much an award for being a massive nerd, also great for school image -_-). 3/4 captains elected don't even want to change major things about the school, they only care about things such as prom and adding things such as spring fling to our school (no offence, but people just don't care about that).
There's so much more complaints I can state, but I fear I'd go over the word count, thank you for letting me rant.

Incident at westwood shops

A group of older looking boys from this school decided it would be funny to throw a basketball at my face while I was with my 8 year old daughter at westwood shops. After they threw the ball all I got was laughter and the boys started shouting horrible comments if you could have a word at your next assembly about this incident please I would prefer that than having to come into the school and point out the boys as I dont want to be ridiculed any more. Thank you

Dont send your child here

Its a shit whole, teachers dont help with anything for example bullying, schoolwork and ect. The teachers refuse to let students go to bathrooms and chase them down the hall ways, they shout at you for other people’s doings. This school effects the students mental health and it increases anxiety. There is also constant fights and this school even needs to have a police officer. If you are thinking about sending your child here i suggest you shouldnt.

An okay school, but…

The school was good for education, but they don’t do much about bullying. Even if something happens a few feet out the school gates, they will always say “it happened irises if school, therefore we can’t help.” Not to mention the amount of homophobia goes on and they just don’t care.

Duncanrig Secondary School

Usually is really good until the bullying happens and it doesn't always get dealt with right away from personal experiences and others telling me, but greate teachers (Mr brown) he is qaulity you would be really lucky if you got him makes you feel good about yourself. Same with the support base great staff in there always help you out if that one teacher can't help you then another one will, overall great school

Average Scottish School

There aren't any issues with racism/sexism/homophobia, however bullying is often unaddressed and if it is it will only be to defend the perpetrators of the bullying rather than the victims. Quite a lot of issues with drug/alcohol use and gang mentality among pupils.
