Avoid.

A sinking ship. Was excellent pre 2015. Subsequently, discipline and leadership are down the pan. Teacher absence high. Good teachers have left. Many of those that remain cannot teach.

Kids that do well generally have private tutors. And yet, still families choose to move into kinross for this school!!!

Bullying is rife and issues are not addressed.

Kinross High School

Not a friendly place to be!

Really bad for bullying at school, cyber bullying, constant photos and recording of other pupils in classes and at break, lunch, a child actually called McDonald’s while in class and teacher didn’t even notice, bullying incidents have been reported many times nothing was acted on until bullying involved the illegal recording and uploading to social media, snap chat, what’s app etc staff have left helpers and assistants have left or moved to other schools because of bullying being the normal behaviour in school!

Ugly high school

Kinross has such a bad place to go one because the staff are so useless and they don’t care how your feeling so the only way if you were sick sad or depressed and you actually couldn’t be bothered going to class the only way you could get out of that is by skiving the classes which I have no bother doing now cause none of the staff care or anyone just don’t go you’ll regret it

Sinking ship

Under very poor leadership at the moment. Best teachers are jumping ship and leaving. Discipline is poor. Bullying is rife. Communication from school is very poor.

do better.

tbh its mentally draining, whether they like to hear this or not its really mentally draining. i wish teachers would pay attention to everyone aside JUST the misbehaving students. when teachers tell the whole class off for 1 persons fault it feels awful. some staff have even said slurs and other derogatory language that they think is okay. the environment is not something u wanna be in for too long. pupil support teachers are rarely in and they rarely actually give feedback on an issue

High levels of bullying

Don’t go here if you are not a cis het white boy who likes football unless you want to be bullied. Pupil support doesn’t do anything unless your parents come in and complain. The teachers are really a hit or miss. However the expressive arts teacher are for the most part really nice.

Kinross high

Deputies care more about marketing and appearance that they ever had the pupils. The maths department is so lacking that students are relying on tutors that are private which not everyone has the money to do.
The English department seem to think it's okay to say racial slurs.
The science and music would probably be the best departments. Strong set of teachers and a good course.
The students opinions are rarely asked even regarding things that would apply solely to them , if they are [asked] the opinions are disregarded.
It is a very busy school whose management operates similarly to the government (Not well)

Deteriorated

Used to be good but unfortunately has been on a downward slide over the past 5 or 6 years. The science dept is still excellent but all the best teachers seem to have disappeared and the school suffers with staffing issues and a lack of forward drive. School uniform and discipline are sloppy.

Really Enjoying this school!

I am quite new to this school but so far I’ve really enjoyed it! The modern languages department is amazing with 6 languages available to learn. The music corridor is a really friendly environment and has loads of instruments able to get lessons for. All of my teachers throughout the subjects have been kind and easy to get support from. School Lunches are really good also with loads of options for vegetarian and gluten-free, at lunch we are also allowed to go to giacopazzis which is a shop across from the school if we want sweets. So far I haven’t come across harsh bullying but they have a big pupil support department so I think bullying gets tackled easily. At the moment there is a non uniform policy that means that you can basically wear whatever you want and we are allowed to go on our phones in the lunch hall, outside and in the corridors basically everywhere apart from inside the class. I’ve been really enjoying my time at Kinross High.

Could be better

Honestly could be better, bullying is so normalised in the school. Slurs are shouted and no one bats an eye to intervene or help or even check up on the person. Guidance is alright sometimes depending on your issue but it's not always reassuring. The teachers pay more attention to students who misbehave instead of the ones who want to learn. When SOME kids misbehave they keep the whole class behind.

don’t bother

the curriculum is alright but the teachers are more inclined to pay more attention to the misbehaved children rather than those who need help. The pupils are the same as everywhere, most aren’t very likeable, just average teenagers.

Decent School

It's a nice school however it has it's issues. Staff are generally nice and pleasant, however many children who do not behave do not like them. The school faculties are good, however have been restricted in some ways due to COVID-19. The best way to get help from Pupil Support is by persistent meetings with them, they often will not help on the first. The maths department is far from desirable, most teachers are really really good, however the head of the department makes bad choices, is a bad teacher and it sadly reflects on the department as a whole. Modern Languages is a iffy department but I've personally not been in it for years. The head teacher has attempted to make changes to make it more like a private school (trying to make £80+ blazers compulsory, trying to force females to wear skirts instead of trousers or leggings), she also cares more about the general performance of the school in the SQA exams instead of the pupils individual learning. Over all a good school with it's issues like all.

Love it!

I love my school! It’s a really nice building with good facilities including a fantastic library. There are some amazing teachers who are really at the top of their game. The catering also cater for people with specific needs. I think they offer gluten free options, vegetarian, etc. I would recommend Kinross :)

don't bother.

best hope you get the decent teachers, because the alternative is praying for a c in a subject you were excelling at before moving classes. bring your own food, the chicken is frequently pink and the portion sizes are laughable, unless you get an overpriced baguette. guidance will not help you unless you go over their heads. make friends with the drama teachers even if you don't have them, they'll usually be more useful than guidance. this genuinely used to be a good school, but has gone downhill fast with the new head. the pupils are generally more likeable than the staff, although a few teachers are genuinely kind and decent people.

Poor teaching/management staff, but great food

Several teachers bullied pupils and nothing was done about it (members of my class, not me personally). The school as a whole only cares about the average grades and not of individual learning, so much that if they think that someone is going to do terribly in the final exam they don't always allow the child to sit the exam. This is about the school in 2019.
