Brentwood County High School (BCHS)

When we first visited the school, the head and SEND staff were warm and welcoming and really reassured us of the excellent care our son would have. Before starting in Year 7, there were many introductory days and son thoroughly enjoyed those.
Head has now left and what can I say. While the current head is lovely and caring, I am not sure that she has senior staff that supports the school ethos. There are many good and caring teachers and staff members but unfortunately, they are often overlooked and the senior staff gives the school a very bad reputation.
If you have a SEND child do not send them to Brentwood County High School(BCHS). Though they are paid to support your child, this is not forthcoming from senior staff. I do not even believe they are qualified to have SEND children at the school. My son has not learnt or progressed since being at the school. SEND children are suspended more than they are in school and is often put in isolation – to make matters worse this is shown as unauthorised absent.
As for homework...no resources are added. You never know how well your child has done when and if homework is completed. I have never come across a school with so many apps and none are fit for purpose.
I could go on…to any prospective parent I would say look at other schools before BCHS.

This is a terrible school.

This is s terrible school and I do not recommend it at all , someone I know went to this school and experienced hell , students run around with razor blades in their hands and cut other children’s arms on purpose. Not to mention during the snow razor blades where also in snowballs and thrown at students and have serious injuries , but to add on , the teachers won’t do anything about it.
The teachers shout at the students for no good reason and even said they would disown them if the students where their kids and that the children’s parents failed in parenting.
My friend who went here also couldn’t go a day without being told she would never be good enough by a member of staff and she was sexually assaulted for 3 months straight by another student even when the teachers knew of it they did nothing to stop it. She’s in extreme therapy because of what she experienced at this school ; the racism is unbelievable and heaven forbid you’re gay and attend there.
Some students curb stomped her when she was talking about her girlfriend and the nearest teacher was only a metre away and wasn’t doing anything about it. My friend was not the only person who experienced this though , you see , as this school is very racist the friends groups are split between black and white and if you’re white and say you’re friends with a black person you’ll get judged and told “shouldn’t they be hanging around with their people not yours” by a teacher and the classrooms are also split like it too because it’s “better for friend ship”
This school is nothing but horrible and does little to no good.

No communication

I have had nothing but problems with this school they paint it as a great school and that the teachers care but I disagree I’ve sent numerous emails regarding issues with my child and no one reply’s it’s near enough impossible to talk to a head on the phone a lot of good teachers have left and all they have is teachers from other subjects covering they haven’t a clue what they are supposed to be learning and the class is in chaos I recently emailed and spoke to a teacher about my child’s maths class as my child wasn’t happy about being in there due to bottles being thrown about and paper thrown about as well it upset my child that much he left the class and spent the lesson walking round the school i emailed the school and I also spoke to one of his teachers the teacher told me he would go and catch with my child but he didn’t and I got no response via email I feel there is a lot of safeguarding issues here too and teachers are rude to children I also feel it’s a shame as this could be a great school

Great school

BCHS is a great school! Teachers are so dedicated to making sure students learn and progress. The school has great facilities and a wide range of subjects, which are made both fun and engaging. The school has an amazing sixth form where the support is amazing and is great for lower school too. The school receives consistently good GCSE results and A Levels placing it as one of the highest achieving in the area.

Could be better...

To be fair it’s really a hit or miss with the school. you can have a really good teacher for one subject and the teacher not do anything in another, also sets can be a problem because they put all the misbehaved kids in with the other people that need help which leads to chaos in most lessons. The food could be better and the Covid-19 situation wasn’t handled very well. However since the new headteacher has joined things has progressively gotten better except the uniforms with the slit down the side of the year 7-9 girls skirts which is strange. The building is incredibly run down with food spilt everywhere and gum on the brick work. but there is a new building being constructed so this should change in the next few years. make sure you have a good look around the school before you consider joining here.
