Do not send a child here ever

Dreadful school.

Do not send any child with low self esteem here. It crushes children. Not an inclusive school and damages children’s mental health.

Coombe Deans horrible

I left this school after only being there for a year, I actually didn’t even get the choice wether I wanted to go or not they just told me I need to leave💀. I was suspended around December 2022 for refusing to go RTL (Ready To Learn - Isolation for 5 hours and an after school.) for not drawing a circle then being pushed by a teacher when trying to leave the classroom with everyone else and then having a breakdown due to some personal things. Yet then they tried to force to me to go to SIR (Serious Incident Room) even when I wasnt emotionally in the right place to be in school. Honestly i’m so glad they ended up moving me to a different school as my experience has been so much better so far. This school will not take you seriously if your not SEN and even if you are SEN they wont help with your issues, i’ve seen this with my brother. My brother is autistic and struggles alot and he also has alot of other physical medical problems which means he cannot do PE. Yet hes been forced to do PE several times which has meant staying at home more often when his attendance is already at around 60%, He shouldnt be doing PE with all his problems. His autism makes him struggle more often in school as people make fun of him, yet teachers do nothing to support him. If your wanting to send your child to this school, dont, if they make one mistake and get RTL/SIR once they will be picked on for the rest of school😂😂. Another thing that happened to me was I got into a fight with a girl who gets extra support from teachers, so after the fight I got SIR and she got nothing except unconditional support from them, even though we both fought, not one sided at all. I took full responsibility for that, yet she still got nothing and I got everything. After everything that happened they decided to stick me in SIR for 3 weeks with no actual work until I could move schools. Sym Coombe dean☺️☺️☺️

Big sh*thole don't send ur kids here

Sh*t school, school meals are overpriced and teachers don't really care about your mental health, behaviour system is very poor could get sent to a full day isolation for trying to ask why you got a red card (lunch detention), personally I know some people who've been sexually assaulted here and the school has done nothing about it. There is constant racism and homophobia, kids calling each other slurs infront of teachers and them not getting punishment after clearly being heard by a teacher. Being late even 2 minutes to your lesson when you need time to get there gets you a detention, the medical system is horrible, once went there complaining I was dizzy and nauseas and instead of being sent home I got told not to worry and got sent back to lesson.

Coombe dean

The food is terrible and often undercooked and the teachers dont help with issues much.

Coombe dean stinks

The school prioritises “looks” over student well-being 99% of the time. The school behaviour system , called RTL (ready to learn) is a complete pisstake. Talking 3 times in class gets u isolation for 5 hours and an after school detention. Not to mention u are normally left with no work for that 6 hours.

Food is stupidly overpriced for what it is, from when I was in year 7, sausage rolls were about 25-30 cm and cost £2. Portions have almost halved but the price remains £2. The salad bar that was in place in year 7 and 8 was removed so you are left to eat the unhealthy food which is either a “pizzini” a sausage roll, or a pastie almost everyday. Food is obviously all “warm up food” saying 2 chicken strips cost £2 but I can get a 6 pack of chicken strips for the same price somewhere like Tesco or Iceland. The teachers always side with the SEN children. An SEN kid could stamp on my head, bite my ear off and deep throat my entire leg and and a “normal” kid like me would get told off for “encouraging the situation” even if I did nothing to provoke it. And the SEN kid who assaulted me multiple time would end up getting a “pls don’t do it again- it isn’t nice” and would be told to get to class while I sit in isolation.

The schools recent ofsted pointed out the lessons are poorly planed (which they are), student aren’t engaged in lessons (which is true) and staff are unwilling to help students ( which is 90% true.

Teachers think they can be lazy and get away with it. They either turn on YouTube and ask us to take notes or (on rare occasions) would whip out a text book and ask us to copy from it with minimal input from the teacher.

Everything I have stated is the reason most people who attend Coombe dean don’t like being there. There are obviously teachers who do care, who are fair and aren’t dicks in general but unfortunately there aren’t a lot of those respected teachers in Coombe dean.

And for a school that is meant to be ICT specialist- the PCs can barely run word without crashing and half the keyboards either have half the keys missing or are stuck down so they are unusable. I just found that a bit ironic yanno. 😂

Great school

My kids very happy in years 7 and 8, and encouraged to work hard. Responsive helpful teachers when we’ve needed to contact them. Generally friendly kids taken from a broad range of backgrounds. School is a nice size, not too big but still a good range of clubs and enrichment.

A more than just "bad" experience

The food is overpriced, there is no regard for mental health of students whatsoever, the punishment system for behaviour is very flawed, bullies get away with basically anything but, forgetting a pe kit will land some normal, well-working kid in detention

Hate this place

Was bullied for most of my time there, and developed severe depression and a eating disorder. There food was expensive. Generally a terrible time for younger me.

The shitest in school Plymouth

Teachers favour the bullies, rules authoritarian, not democratic, no free speech and the head teacher is obsessive of what you wear
