I HATE Culcheth High

I hate culcheth they never help you with anything and always put staff first like if your balling your eyes out they wouldn’t even care until the parent sends a complaint which I think is horrific they would notice your skirt rolled up in 2 seconds but your mental health? Never. If I could go back I would go to ICA-Irlam and Cadishead academy. Because it has better reviews and I would never send my child to culcheth high I hate my experience and I’m only in year 7 I absolutely hate it horrible bullies and horrible teachers.

The actual Culcheth high

Teacher don't care about your mental health they care more abt your skirt length and if your blazer is on and if you're on your phone or if your chewing not our mental health WHICH IS WHAT MOST OF US ARE STRUGGLING WITH

People spread rumours about you alot and no one does anything about it till you retaliate then you're the bad guy aren't you? Well to the teachers we are

They dont care if you're having a panic attack in front of them they think you're trying to get out of lesson so they send you back to it and you feel like you're trapped and can't breath "you look perfectly fine you're breathing go to lesson" like I'm sorry but u get payed for that? Actually do your job and help

They wait till a parent complains to them for them to stop someone from bullying like what?!

They think going tonthe toilet is a privilege no it's not ITS A RIGHT BUT NOT IN THAT SCHOOL WE NEED A PASS TO GO TOILET

Some of us don't have energy to do work or even come to school but if we don't go our parents get fined for keeping us home but teachers don't care they just want their money to pay for their needs but what about us our mental health is important to,I am a student that goes to Culcheth at the moment I dont know if this shows the date but its 2023 when I'm doing this and I suffer with my mental health badly and it's getting worse but they don't give a s|-|!t about that I just have to smile and wipe my tears away and suffer in silence instead but when I'm having a panic attack in front of them and I say i can't breath I know I can but I feel like I can't it feels like I'm trapped don't just tell me go back to lesson cause I'm not going to go am I if I'm having a panic attack I'm not sitting in a lesson struggling no I'm not I'm not doing that.

I hope the school sees this I'm not ganna lie I hope they do

They don't care

Culcheth high? Yeah it's better than birchwood and other schools but the support staff do not help with your mental health when you're balling your eyes out at all they only care when a parent has to complain and only some teachers actually try and help but some just send you back to lesson in the middle of a panic attack and they only let you to the toilet if you have a pass but I'm sorry I never knew a toilet was privileged it's a right and my skirt length doesn't effect my learning my mental health does but you care more about our uniform then our mental health and the school is about being your self but when someone dyes their hair a colourful colour they get told to dye it back or to a natural colour like what happend to be your self? For once in your whole life just care for your students mental health.

Would not recommend Culcheth High School!!!

If I had the choice again, I would not send my child to this high school. Real issues such as bullying, never get dealt with but simply swept under the carpet by the head and his SLT. Appalling team who think they are elite. Pupils that they can't control, get put in a computer room to do what they like including playing music, instead of dealing with the problem. Similarly, badly behaved pupils in the canteen get handed cookies by a deputy head as a reward. What example does that set the other pupils? They cater to the bullies and disruptive children. Learning and teaching is secondary. As a parent, if you raise a concern to a member of staff, they become aggressive. Appalling school with corrupt values.

Bad school

Bad bad school. My son has a few issues. They referred him to camhs and neurondevelopment pathway. Other than that constant phonecalls suspensions for what seem to be petty things. I do not condone the things my son does. They have no more help for him other than this. I thought schools have a send Co person.... what are they supposed to do? They then sent him to a school for children that struggles with behavioir he has done so well there but he can't stay he was on a 12 week programme. They sent him 4 4 days a week and he went to culcheth 1 day a week. What they were trying to achieve is beyond me. If they suggest this do not accept it its the start of them trying to get rid of your child. Thought my son was going to get a good education at culcheth. we are now moving him to irlam what seems to be a miles better School. If it would let me I'd leave 0 stars.

Full of bullies

School is an absolute joke and lets bullies get away with name calling because certain bullies play the race card! Sure people will recognise this! Something needs doing but teachers won’t pull certain bullies up, absolutely disgusting

Terrible arts departments

Don't send your child here if you want them to get any kind of arts education. They barely teach art, music, drama etc, and there are literally no extracurricular activities.

I am not a bitter non-academic student - I performed well in all subjects, including maths and English. But I remember starting high school excited to learn art techniques and thinking I'd improve at drawing and painting. Only to find out my art "lessons" consisted of being given a printed piece of art and then copying it with a pencil.

Also, the music teacher is a joke. He only cares about students who can already play an instrument like piano or guitar. He takes them out of class to the recording studio, and leaves the rest of the class to just play around on garage band for an hour.

There are absolutely no extracurricular activities for students - there aren't even real sports teams. No opportunities to learn new things or meet new people. Most people just sit around and chat with friends every single lunchtime.

But at least the geography department is really really good.

Culcheth High

OFSTED, please inspect Culcheth High School. I think everyone knows it is a rough school with lots of bullying but nobody does anything about it. As long as the school can brag about a handful of students who get top grades at GCSE, they don`t care. The leadership of the school is so very poor and if you dare complain they will get nasty and make up lies about you. There is no inclusion and if vulnerable students are bullied they will be punished by being taken out of class ,instead of the bully. My child was still being assaulted in class in year 11 in front of the teacher and nobody cared.

severe bullying

worst school you could possibly set foot in. was bullied in here, kids treat you really bad for no reason. school staff brush it off and say theres not much they can do. they dont help and issues dont get dealt with. no set rules in place for bullying definitely not an anti bullying school. oftsed inspections need to be had very soon. the school is far from “good”. this school has made me get anxiety and had lowered my self esteem. i cant go out and talk to people or do basic things due to how ive been treated here. it got so bad i had to leave. heads of years do nothing and the inclusion staff do not handle anything correctly. i was in the support room near inclusion and was crying and told them i need support and someone to talk to i was told to go to class while i was shaking due to an anxiety attack. there is one teacher there who deals with it correctly other than that the rest don’t deserve their jobs. its sad how the system is at this school , its not just me either ive seen lots of kids leave due to this.

Awful school & appalling policies

Can’t believe how poorly managed this school has got to. This school can not handle bullying at all! They need an urgent ofsted inspection because some of the children need extra attention and it can’t be given. The inclusion staff are in desperate need of training. How can these children get treated the way they do and the staff get away with it?! I wouldn’t recommend this school to anyone. Urgent inspections are needed.

Culcheth High School

There is no pastoral care at Culcheth High School .If you are in the top set and likely to get top grades, you will probably not be bullied and you will be respected. If you are not going to get top grades at GCSE you are of no use to the school and if you are bullied nobody will help you. Leadership at the school is very very poor and there is no understanding of those pupils who have additional needs or those are vulnerable in any way. The motto "respect, honesty, excellence" is a joke and totally meaningless. Teaching of English and Maths is poor.

awful school- couldn’t stay any longer

awful school, DONT SEND YOUR CHILDREN HERE.
if you care about your childs mental health do not step foot in this school. Teachers do not care about bulllying or childrens mental health. They excuse it and say there is not much they can do. They dont have any set rules in place for bullying and dont do anything about it. My mental health was ruined from this school to the point i had to leave. You could walk in with false nails on and straight away be put in the Behaviour Inclusion Center for it. But when im walking into school having anxiety attacks because of how im treated, the school brush it off their shoulder and dont set any sanctions for the children that bully me. I couldnt even walk to a class without being followed and i would have things thrown at me. In lessons i would be brought to tears by people giving me a hard time. I would wake up for school throwing up because of how anxious i was to go in. I reported everything that was going on and even gave names and the school did absolutely nothing. They let them carry on. I spent most of my time in the toilets at lunch and break to avoid everything. Girls would take pictures of me from above the cubicles and would shout things.
All i can say about this school is it is definitely not an “anti bullying school”, and do not send your child here.
I am now traumatised from this school and now have to suffer with my own mental health issues because of it.

Let's be real

While there are students willing to shame the school, and exaggerate situations in order to get through their own petty grievances - which simply isn't what this site is for - it is about time for an honest review.

As stated by OFSTED, the school is 'good', which it is by no uncertain terms. While many students will go out of their way to criticize the teachers and school on the whole, the teachers play an important role to the school culture and development of the students. Provided you are a behaved student, teachers are mostly nice and friendly - and admittedly not so much with specific students for valid reasons.

I have experienced run-ins with other students in the past, fights/bullying etc etc. While stuff like this is present in all schools across the country (if not the globe), once reported to school officials it is investigated and handled effectively.

I am a top set student, achieving straight As and A*s (now known as Grade 7/8/9s) in every subject. From my own experiences and from those who have gone through the school before me, it turns out good students who are prepared for life beyond secondary education.

unsupportive, actively harming my mental health

I am a student in year 10 at this school, I achieve good grades and am in top sets. I am transgender and gay and my partner and I get bullied severely by the students directly under the teachers noses. We are sexually harassed, called slurs, misgendered, and physically abused. All of these instances are reported to the teachers, heads of year etc but none of the students get punished. However, as soon as we turn up to the school with coloured hair, piercings that are under masks/ hair or plain painted nails (none of these interfere with work) we get threatened with isolation until we remove these. I had to remove a healing septum piercing I had underneath my mask waiting for it to heal enough to be flipped which had risk of infection in doing so. I got told 'I know all about piercings since my wifes a nurse' handed an alcohol wipe and forced to take it out unless i'd be in isolation given work but no teacher to teach it to me. Basically having my learning halted and threatened when all I want is to express myself. The majority of the teachers are undereducated on lgbtq+ issues, racism etc and the head of pd especially even though she claims to advocate for the lgbtq+ students. She misgendered another member of staffs nonbinary child telling me their deadname and calling them a 'daughter' and every single pd lesson singles me out saying 'people with female anatomy' but then just saying 'boys' to the others which is very hurtful when I myself am a transgender boy. Students who disrupt my classes, insult my partner and I do not get punished and everything is just brushed to the side. I already have awful mental health, suicidal thoughts and trying to recover from self harm. The school does not care. They continue to watch me get bullied, get told to kill myself, cut myself and called a girl. Everyday it drives me closer to this. Don't even get me started on the food. My partner and I are vegetarian and they are autistic and struggle with sensory issues with certain food. Specifically tomatoes. The only options are pizza, foods containing meat, plain pasta and a baguette with some cheese on it (our food area recieves one of these and it's the only thing my partner can eat). There are no vegan options whatsoever and barely any variety or healthy foods. Furthermore, we work in the library, giving up our breaks and lunchtimes for work experience and a queue jump pass. Every lunchtime we use these we get shouted out and called names, gay anything offensive they can think of while the staff member on duty watches and sympathises with the abusers apologising for 'inconvenience'. There is only one staff member who handles this situation correctly holding his arm out so we don't get pushed and rammed into the wall or threatened. My partner has pupil premium and is entitled to 'free school meals'. The only thing they can buy with their money is a baguette with some cheese, not even a water, this isn't a free school meal if their mother has to add money for them to even get a proper meal. There is a student leadership team and all of the students who are meant to set an example for the school are racist, homophobic, transphobic and ableist, but I guess this shows the school well. I am assigned female at birth and recently moved to boys pe after coming out since 'it's illegal to not do pe' and now they all harass and sometimes hurt me while it's just looked over. The so called pastoral support ignores every request I have to speak to her and any information is relayed home instantly which is dangerous if a students home situation is bad. There also are transphobic and racist teachers one who says trans kids don't deserve name changes and mocking them, or RE teachers who repeat slurs over and over, or English teachers who pressure ************* who felt uncomfortable to say the*****. Overall this school has a severe impact on my mental health, I feel alone, scared to go in, unsafe and really unsupported. There are odd moments where kind staff favour me as they see whats going on, but apart from the odd****, I am left vulnerable and scared. Somehow I am still achieving grades 7s, 8s, and 9s in my subjects and I hope I can leave this school with decent gcses and a stable mindset. Even then it wouldn't be worth the trauma and harm I have undergone.
Please don't send your******** here, love them and watch them closely.

The real Culcheth high school

Teachers are a bunch of nasty, stuck up,
discriminative cows, that don't give a sh*té about students mental well being. All that matters to them is their ofsted rating and their "93% of students pass English and maths" quote. Personally, I would not send your child to this school, no matter how brilliant they make it out on the open evenings. Also if your a student on some kind of behaviour report you are treated unfairly, and cannot express your
opinion without a sanction. The teacher/s will always pick the other pupils side over yours. In the BIC (behaviour inclusion centre) you get demanded to hand over your mobile phone and if you don't
they threaten you with an extended time or they will attempt to search vulnerable students. In this room, students are sat in small booths with barely any leg
room, with walls at the front and both sides of you, you are only aloud cold food. The students are required to sit in silence and in the same booth from 8:40am till 3/4pm. With only a 10 minute
"break" which normally lasts a maximum of 5 minutes long and consists of a walk around the school and then back up. If a student talks they have their time extended. It's more of a prison/behavioural camp than a place of education. To them, punishment is more important than the learning of students. Another point is students whose parents are on low income or single parents
and receive free school meals are placed onto a plan called pupil premium. I have had many time where I've had teachers attempting to embarrass me or show me up in front of the class for it. You
get treated completely unfairly. What Culcheth high school also attempted to cover up was the fact that one of the female history teachers nudes got
leaked and shared around the year 11s Snapchat's.Aswell as her nudes, she's also had a picture of her doing illegal activities including inhaling nitrous
oxide from a balloon. The school covered this up very quickly and kept in on the low, whilst the
teacher still remains at the school to this date. I also don't think many parents would be quite happy with their young children being taught by maths
teachers who shout out inappropriate comments such as "big hairy balls, I forgot to do the register",
or another comment which was made to a male student in my class was
" yeah you use to be quite
round in year 7 didn't you". Or form tutors saying discriminative and insensitive comments to students with one being to a female student in my form, " why've you got black nail vanish on, people
might think your a goth". Personally I don't think you should take your child to this school, despite the ofsted rating saying different. I hope this review, gives you the other side to Culcheth High School that others may not see.

It is unacceptable.

For the most part, teachers are welcoming and supportive. There are teachers who make the school hell for students. The uniform policy is far too strict, why should some students be penalized for coloured hair, yet others have no consequences? The amount of homophobic language and racial slurs that are passed around by students and that go unpunished is appalling! Not to mention the PD lessons! Teachers are untrained with subjects such as LGBT issues and pass on offensive and incorrect information. I won't name the teacher, however, a white teacher felt it appropriate to say racial slurs in a lesson as 'education'. Once was bad enough, yet she repeated the slur 17 times, and added another slur as she was talking. It was such an uncomfortable lesson for many of the students. School meals are also an issue. They serve only unhealthy foods, with the only fruit being a small amount in a tub or vegetables on a pizza. How are students meant to remain healthy as the school preaches when they only serve this?

Every child does not matter

This school is far from 'good'. They mention diversity which is laughable as they do not value diversity & difference. They do however value a high achieving child greater than another, families who are wealthier are also treated differently ie better than those who are for example from single parent families, the every child matters mentioned in their statement is simply not true, just lip service. Lastly, if you are in doubt make an appt with the welfare person, such an unkind woman, least approachable person ever which proves inadequate leadership. I was once called in as they had a report my son ran away from the scout hut as if having committed a crime, no crime had been committed yet I was the only parent called in to school out of a group of children who other than mine were all white.

Wouldn't recommend

The school is terrible. Majority of the teachers are nasty and sexist, will only tell certain students off and not others mainly tell boys off not the girls. They get detentions for the most silliest things like eg If you didn't run in pe you get an hour after school. Ridiculous. There's only 3 great teachers including mr maunder, Mrs menzies and miss giblin. Also dont let you got to the toilet only at break or lunch. And the covid precautions are terrible, no social distancing, year bubbles but everyone mixes when leaving and entering the school or on school buses its crowded no seats left.

Really bad school. The teachers make students lives hell. So much pressure put onto students and the school have dealt terribly with covid 19 precautions. They've created "bubbles" but they get broken when leaving to exit school. No year groups at all social distance either.
