Bad school

One of the worst schools in Essex.
There is absolutely no discipline. Pupils allowed by so-called senior management to verbally abuse, threaten and even assault staff members, especially women. According to senior staff, classroom teacher to blame, even if racially abused or physcially assaulted. Unsurprisingly, the school struggles to recruit teachers.
Poor exam results.

brilliant sixth form

recently joined the sixth form here at debden after an awful experience from year 7-11 and a nearby secondary school. teachers are generally brilliant, the teacher-pupil interactions are enjoyable and engaging, and the facilities available to us are great. i can’t speak as a student of the main school, but my use of the science labs during a level biology have indicated that the facilities and practical equipment are more than sufficient. as a sixth form student, i have had a really brilliant experience so far. i haven’t got a group of friends at the school, as i am a very quiet person and am the only person from my previous school, but that has not detracted from my experience in the slightest. also the food is amazing, good quality and well priced. always buy a cookie they are literally a godsend

Nothing special or engaging.

Entirely average. As a current student of the the school, I do not see outstanding behaviour from either pupils or teachers, like the OFSTED report claims. The school does enrich you with Performing Arts specialty work - which does help you get into the industry from an actor here. Apart from that, the lessons are not so ‘hands on’ and really don’t help you learn. It’s more about test results and how OFSTED views is than the values our school claims to endorse. I, a student, have fell to victim of homophobic comments given by students, and many accounts of bullying. Threats have been made and acted upon. Minimal efforts are made in the wellbeing of students. Children aren’t praised usually. They have to be assigned praise cards, which are only given out in select core lessons, which I and many others find quite ridiculous. The teachers do not have your learning in their best of concerns, and are only paying attention to misbehaving students, and exemplary students. Feeling as if you don’t fit in either of these groups is not a valid reason to be upset at this school. Overall, the school is only ideal for Performing Arts students with all rounded talent that needs minimal work, and if you want to be pushed relentlessly to achieve unimaginable heights, not for yourself, but the reputation of Debden Park.

Great!

The facilities are clean and nicely maintained for a school, and the students are kind for the most part. The teachers teach you well, but do overwork and stress you out quite a lot like giving you 20 seconds to copy a detailed paragraph, as not everyones fast at writing in neat presentation. The extracurricular activites have a lot of variety and are not just sports, the school really takes a lot of pride in their label as a Performing Arts Specialist School, with many performance oppurtunities. They do push you accademically and personally, starting personal statements early on in the school, to help students write a CV in year 10.
