This school has had big problems with bullying for many years, from both students towards other students and staff towards students. They implement punitive “behaviour” policies which actually lead to more negative behaviour and often forget that their pupils are still children.
This school used to be excellent, but it's deeply disappointing to see how far it has declined. A major concern, often echoed by many parents, is the leadership team. The school is facing serious issues with bullying, and the high staff turnover suggests instability and poor management. Instead of addressing these critical problems, the leadership seems overly focused on uniform appearance rather than the well-being and education of the students.
If I could do lower I would this school is horrible for kids mental health and makes kids upset all the time my daughter is in yr7 and her pastoral and head of year told her not to go talk to them because she suffers from bullying I would never recommend.
The uniform checks are horrendous, if you wear a skirt, you have to lift your jumper to let the teachers check your waistband and it is extremely uncomfortable and inappropriate. If the skirt length was an issue, you would know from just the length and not have this extremely uncomfortable and inappropriate encounter.
DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILDREN TO THIS SCHOOL even if all their friends go there !
This school doesn’t attempt to understand children.
This school makes children worse and drives them crazy with their ridiculous lack of care , uniform and behaviour policy.
One of my daughters got school based trauma being here. I was told by Mr Hartley (senior staff) that I had to home school or move my daughter to a new school. Struggling with server social anxiety with panic (letters from doctor) he said “how can she go to rollerworld if she has anxiety?”, this shows total ignorance around anxiety struggles! My daughter feels safe in the dark predicable roller world, she’s good and confident at it to, unlike this school where she felt the opposite.
Some children can go in with trainers on , short skirts, died hair, crossed legs in class and other children get punished. Some children can physically assault other children and totally get away with it.
I know teachers that have worked here in their SEN department and they say prisoners get treated better ! I’ve experienced the “link” building and ARNA (anxiety related non-attendance) room, it’s where they put all their children they cannot deal with , it’s like a free for all with no education!
They only have one ELSA worker (emotional support) and no councillor.
A lot of the children that struggle cut them selfs as a release and teachers with their lack of understanding make the Children’s mental state worse. Leaving parents desperately trying to find a new school for their children to move to.
This school is great in the art of getting rid of children that don’t comply to strict rules making it like an army camp for teens.
My first daughter had to home school for 10 months after leaving here to recover and then went to another school and her needs were met and the new school made reasonable adjustments and recommended an Autism diognosis (now come back positive which makes us understand her more). This should’ve been recognised by the SEN department at George Spencer who refused to work with us !
Second daughter was kept in isolation for two weeks straight with no lunch or break , kept in a booth and not allowed to speak , turn around, swing on a chair along with automatic built in after school detention until 4pm , because a male teacher singled her out to inspect her skirt at the front and then asked to see the back and my daughter asked “why do you want to see the back of my skirt sir - it’s just weird?!” He then sent her to isolation and suspended for 2.5 days, when we had a readmission meeting Mr Hartly (worst teacher I’ve ever encountered!) said “ if she wants to come back to the school, she must wear trousers”. My daughter cried all the way to the shop and refused to wear trousers - hence the permanent isolation! This daughter is now happy at a new school which hasn’t mentioned her skirt once !
GEORGE SPENCER ARE MORE BOTHERED ABOUT HOW YOUR CHILD LOOKS THAN EDUCATING THEM.
If your child follows all the rules , sits still and enjoys learning a range of subjects and has no SEN and stable home life / friends then they might stand a chance - anyone else stay WELL CLEAR AT ALL COSTS.
Do not go to this school it is terrible. You get screamed at for evey little thing you get told to respect the teacher but they can go ahead and call you names (one called me a dickhead) they denied that they called it me and nothing went forward with it whereas if that was a student we would be suspended for 2 weeks. They do not care about mental health they say we can go talk to them about anything but when you try to you get healed at for not being in you lesson. I was having a panic attack from a teacher yelling at me but yet she continues to do it while ik crying in a corner as she walks closer to me. If yiu go to this school you have to be perfect for them to not target you you could do the smallest thing and get targeted for the whole time off being here. You can even drink I got send to isolation for having a drink then got screamed at again for having a drink by slt. They blame you for doing things you haven't even done. Some off the male teachers here are also pedos some have been sacked biy many are still there for example one male teacher walked into a girls changing room whilst they was getting dressed, male teachers are also aloud to search the girls amd tell them to shake there bra and waste band. Another one told me to pull my skirt d9wn and quickly changed to to role it down. The food is also raw I got served a chicken burger and it was pink on the inside. This school is terrible don't send your children here if you want them to be happy
I am student here and in my fod tech room there was a rat and instead of killing it my teacher picked it up and put itin a different room and did not wash her hands after , then she started coking without washing her hands!! -3 hygeine
The Construction Teacher made racial slurs to my son, there was an independent witness, but, the school chose to believe the teacher. Some of the teachers are bullies and I wonder why they are in this profession. My son got detention for having the corner of his shirt out after playing football at lunch time. Rather than mentioning this to him, they gave him detention. Ridiculous!! English/Maths Teachers are great!
This school is very bad I can’t believe how bad it is the senior leadership team don’t care about you they have more interest on Facebook marketplace on their phone than a kid lying on the floor screaming in agony this happened once and the teachers didn’t care till the last minute of break just to come up to him and say you have to go to your lesson now rather than helping him or calling first aid they apparently have no money when they re painted the lines and do stupid stuff that no one asks for also they have no disabled toilet I have never seen a disabled toilet in this school. They don’t care about your mental health and just want to shove worksheets in your face. There’s so much homework that you can’t even take a walk to a shop there’s never been a week where we haven’t had a single piece of homework. The teacher shout at you for the stupidest reasons like you haven’t put a full stop or a comma or why are you looking down and someone got a 20 minute detention for asking a question. In the maths block you get a SLT detention (a hour) for going down the wrong stairs even though the teachers go down it themselves. The pupils support centre somehow get payed for “helping “ students when they are sick or getting bullied I vomited outside it and they said “walk it off and drink some water “ very good help isn’t it psa. All the teachers target people every lesson when they are literally not doing anything but the work but people are talking around them but the teacher tells them off obviously because they have no clue what’s going on and that’s why teachers never finished school because there still in it after the 3867 years of teaching and being in school at this point just live there WARNING DO NOT SEND YOU CHILD HERE (from a year 7 student)
this school is horrible. its more like prison than a school. the staff are horrible, multiple times have gotten yelled at and called an attention seeker while having a panic attack. they never do anything about bullying they just make it worse. psa dont do shit.
The one star is only for some nice subject teachers who try their best to help. The staff run the school, make the rules are awful. Please do not send your children in this school if your kids are not super behaved and no issues at all in the school. Otherwise, they would become the prisoners and no respect to them at all. When your kids make mistakes, no matter big or small, they just punish you by throwing you into the isolation/detention room. They do not care about students education, they just want to have a easy life and blame on students for everything. No wonder it is not only a 'good' school not 'outstanding' anymore although I still doubt about 'good'.
Awful, squeaky clean on the out side - no heart and cold inside.
Child well fair not considered. Needs not met. School have progressively made things worse - now my child will not attend at all. I get the blame as it’s the parents responsibility for their child to attend school! I’m sure this is how they get rid of the “weaker/difficult/ ones with needs”!! Communication with school is slow, disappointing, negative. Do not send your child here, unless they are text book perfect!
The amount of times my child has called me crying in the toilets is disgusting and it’s because of the idiots running the school. If you want your child to have an actual education, and not just be thrown in isolation for everything then this isn’t the place for you. I also think that getting screamed at and told to shut up for talking in lesson is disgusting and inappropriate, along with teachers telling literal children that they don’t have any respect for themselves for having their skirt rolled up (it’s grown men that are saying this to our kids). If your child suffers with mental health it will just be disregarded and the head of well-being will continue to scream in your child’s face whilst they’re having a panic attack due to their shouting (i was on the phone to her on mute and heard everything, it’s disgusting and hurtful to hear the way they speak to your children). Children are told to respect the teachers, even though the teachers have absolutely no respect for them. This school gives out detentions for absolutely anything. Half of the teachers, like Dr Jones don’t deserve a job at the school as they don’t even teach properly, they just tell you to figure it out and don’t explain the work given to the students, and then be-little them and make them feel stupid when they don’t get full marks on tests, and tell them that they won’t go anywhere in life without being a chemist. Any sense of individuality is not allowed, no piercings, no dyed hair and everything about students has to be the same. Don’t get me wrong, teachers like Miss Billig, Miss Wilson and Mr Ratcliffe have been really supportive and really helpful towards my daughter and it’s teachers like them that deserve a job at this school. Not teachers that make students feel worthless. Sorry for the rant, and i hope the school sort these issues out before more kid’s mental health is destroyed.
as a student at this school i see first hand how terrible the school is,the most disgusting part is the teachers, I have been grabbed by a pshyco of a science teacher he is vile to students there has been many reports about him,I tried to tell a teacher about what he did but as always got ignored.the only thing this school cares about is money and uniform,it isn’t right.students are made to feel like they’re nothing and no one and that if u don’t have 6 stripes on your tie you won’t succeed in life. They shout in your face and tell you you shouldn’t eat takeaways if you want clear skin. The school has treated me and everyone I know in the most disgusting ways,I was so good in primary this school changes people for the worst.don’t send ur child here if you want them to be happy.the food is so expensive and undercooked they don’t cater towards those with different food allergies. The school is discriminative and it shouldn’t be running,Some teachers are so nice and see how vile the other ones can be but overall 90 percent of them are vile. They have no care in the world towards young peoples mental health who have problems at home. They shove you in isolation for 7 and a half hours for the smallest reasons like losing your report or walking away from someone when your crying.they have no intention to help any student. The head of well-being is supposed to be there for students right? Well he is not he is one of the worst people there,He followed me round the school screaming horrible things at me and many other students he has done the same too,It’s like they take their problems out on us.They act all nice for ofsted but believe me it’s all fake. This school could be so much better and a nicer environment for students if some of the teachers left.
i’m in year 9 at gsa. there’s not a single day where i don’t cry to my parents about not going to school. first off i’d like to adress how people treat you and make you feel, you only fit in if your pretty or popular. no one cares who you are if you don’t fit into their special categories. i’m not one of them people. the kids make you feel lonely and different. they’re so horrible and the amount of bullying and judging at that school is horrendous. also the mental health team isn’t great. i was sent in to one of the link buildings about my depressive state and my unsafe way of dealing with my problems. i had one talk with her and she never brought me back into her office again. i was in a really bad state too. there was no checkups, nothing. being at this school is a straight up prison, you can’t wear any jellwery and have specific hair styles and colours. the students can’t express themselfes in the ways they want to. they just have to act like robots and copies of each other to impress the community and offsted. the teaching is so poor too. they don’t care about the knowledge you receive they just want their pay. the subs just sit there and do nothing so the class will miss behave all lesson. the uniform and pe kit is well expensive too. especially if you have more than one child, your not allowed to buy cheap skirts or jumpers. it has to be all branded and boys can’t wear shorts. that’s ridiculous in the summer. overall this school makes me want to die. nothing about it is good. it’s a literal nightmare. please don’t send your child to this school unless you want them to feel the same way i do
I have had 4 children go through this school (one still there) and would not recommend it to any other parents. The school has an ethos of bullying from pupils and teachers to pupils. They seem to care more about their image than the pupils, especially children with neurodiversity. They have a ‘our way or no way’ attitude and will never admit getting anything wrong. The budgeting goes to ridiculous new ‘traditions’ rather than the pupils and the SEND provision is non-existent. Ethos of bullying and disrespect. If your child is shy, anxious or different they will not cope in the environment the staff provide. Children are shoved and hit on the bridge over the A52 and despite many parents complaints it is still not supervised and teachers outside stand looking at their mobiles looking bored, or screaming at kids for the ‘wrong shoes’. A renect work experience teacher was heard on their phone outside the school saying ‘don’t ever work here they treat the pupil’s disgusting’. I echo this sadly as a parent.
Teachers treat you like prisoners and don't let you go to the toilet even when you are desperate. Don't let you go inside when it's raining so everyone croud under the tinniest bit of shelter. Teachers also don't let you have your own opinion and say you are being rude if you try to say something. Also the food is so overly price it's £2.30 for a horrible tasting burger and some water. Also having mold on the buns of the burgers.
This school is so bad It doesn't help anyone it puts you on report for having 5 warnings in 1-week school dinners are overpriced and mouldy i had a raw chicken burger its £2.30 for burger with water Teachers dont help you for big things I wasn't allowed to go to First aid (which is poor) When my head was bleeding, I've been threatened with having a 2 week suspension for not calling a teacher sir. I constantly get detentions for shaking my knee when i can't help it. Bulling is so frequent Like people hate this school its not safe at all there isdealing all the time. 2 students in late 2021 got expelled for having knives on them there is always fights
Students don’t feel safe the children act appallingly and are out of control. Staff scream and shout and do not help the new year 7’s adjust. They are just abandoned, there are other more caring schools on the area. Good luck actually speaking to someone. Lack of communication. I work in education and this really is a poor education for your kids not world class as it states
This school is treacherous. The last time I attended GSA i was absolutely battered on my first day just because I took a piss on the lawn. The teachers made comments on my bunda and called me butters to my face. The bathrooms are the pits and smelled of horse droppings and the uniforms are like prison uniforms. I came in naked on a non-uniform day and was expelled for no reason. 0/10 would not recommend
Very bad school, absolutely horrible mental health management and absolutely no action against bullying from students or teachers, yes the teachers treated students with no respect either. I only left 2 stars for the poor nice teachers who were trying their best to keep us mentally stable and happy at school and trying to make a difference and talk some sense into the higher powers of the school. I had to endure so much bullying throughout years 7 all the way up to 11 and it's left me with severe anxiety and many more issues, and my own little brother hated that school so much that he became heavily unwell mentally and started hurting himself. Please do not send your kids here.
DO NOT JOIN THIS PRISON OF A SCHOOL, and when I say PRISON I’m not joking, I’m being serious, this school treats you like an inmate in jail. U wil get mire isolations than detentions and if you dont know what an isolation is, it is where u sit in a claustrophobic little booth type thing doing nothing and not moving for 6 & a half hours and u have to stay after school for another 1 hour, in total 7 hours and 30 minutes sat in a little booth with no movement is awful for the body and health and a teacher monitors u for the whole 7 hours like a prison guard. Its torture and I normally get isolations just for not wearing a tie, having the correct school shoes on because I dont have any or because I forgot to wear my lanyard which is now ANOTHER key thing you have to wear in this ridiculous, pathetic, uncultured school. They just pretend to be good infront of offsted then treat you so disrespectfully its unreal. One of the worst schools I have ever attended in my life, I have to suffer with bullying for 5 years there without any teacher doing anything to the bullys even though I told them and mentioned everything 1 million times from the past 5 years. Worst school, do NOT attend if u want ur kid to be happy in there life
