Awful

I attended the school from reception through until year 13, my entire childhood and teenage years, and can honestly say I didn’t have an enjoyable experience. I made some amazing life long friends which I’m truly grateful for, but that aside every other experience (apart from one teacher who was the saving grace) was poor. There’s an extremely serious bullying problem which goes unresolved despite staff being well aware, which I witnessed with several other students from primary all the way through to year 13. Despite the class sizes being small, unless you’re in the top 3 students of the class you’ll be ignored. Despite having left years ago (I’m in my 20s now) I still remember some of the frankly hateful things that were said to me by teachers at the school. I left with very little confidence or conviction despite working hard and giving my chosen career choice all my effort. My A level teacher wanted no part in supporting my chosen career as he deemed it unimportant and not worth his time. On one occasion he said to me that the only reason I’d gotten into my chosen university was because it’s mostly men that apply and they wanted a woman for diversity, despite me achieving the required grades. Unfortunately there are countless other occasions of unfair treatment and favouritism, especially if you come from a rich family you’re often granted a lot more grace than others. There was a disruptive boy in my class for over a year who would shout and disrupt constantly…for an entire year each and every lesson in that subject was disrupted severely by a shouting screaming and insult hurtling teenager….money literally down the drain for all of the other students parents. I would absolutely advise any parent not to send their child here. I don’t believe it’s a good nurturing environment for a child for the most part.

awful

zero diversity, I was the only student of colour in my year, got called the n-word several times, when I posted about it I got suspended for a day. filled with ignorant racists asking stupid questions, did not learn anything, teachers were mostly incompetent.

Good school, but misogynistic

I attend the secondary part of formerly Hull Collegiate, now Tranby. Now don’t get me wrong, it’s an excellent school, that’s obvious as it’s an independent school. Great teachers, good supplies, great access to outdoor areas. But some teachers are incredibly misogynistic, sexist, and don’t put consequences on boys in their rugby team. Boys in my year have attacked, harassed, and bullied girls because they know they’ll get away with it. The school also knows the vast majority, spare one or two, are also misogynistic, but mostly horrifyingly homophobic. Mocking people for being themselves, and miming intimate relations, and constantly shouting “oh that’s so f*cking GAY” at each other. I’m sick of it. The school knows, and choose to ignore it. They also are reluctant to let transmasc or masculine presenting people wear trousers. You had to make a presentation to the headmistress as to why you are completely unable to wear a skirt. That has, thank goodness, changed with the rebrand and therefore uniform change. The rebrand was also not explained to the teachers or students, and the headmistress has no control over it. Many teachers and students believe there is some corporate company controlling the school.
I wouldn’t say don’t come here. It’s an incredible school with a genuinely great education, but just some of the staff higher up are slightly corrupt, and I would love to see that change.
