Hunsbury Park Primary School

The only reason I am posting this with 2 stars is because I am too polite to leave only 1. I am a former student. I went to this school before they added their SEN provision, so it is possible this has completely changed, but this is my own experience. As a child, I was not diagnosed with autism until I was 7 years old, and I went to this school until I was around 8 before leaving for a just as bad (if not worse) school. When I was there, there was NO. HELP. FOR. SEN. STUDENTS. The most I got was my own desk in a still-very-busy classroom. I was given a one-to-one to work with and I often struggled with lessons because this one-to-one was just an ordinary TA who still did not know how to work with SEN students. I have ADHD (in a weird place where the doctors know but I'm strangely still not properly diagnosed) and this was not helped in the slightest. Naturally, I tended to act out. But this mostly caused more issues because nobody could get to the root of my issues because they did not know how to handle autism. You'd think that, given autism is one of the most well-known neurological/mental conditions in the world third only to depression and anxiety, they would have a little training. Sure, it was 2014-2018, but still! We weren't in the flipping Medieval era! The worst part? THE TEACHERS WEREN'T EVEN TRAINED TO DO MY EMERGENCY INJECTION I NEED OR I COULD DIE! They are DAMN lucky I never got an adrenal crisis at school during my time there or I would not be around to write this review! Also, very concerning incident: Once a child accidentally knocked over some toys I was playing with, apologised, and I accepted it. What did the teacher do? Tell the boy off and tell me not to accept it. Even my 6-8 year old mind could recognise "hey, that's weird, why is she saying that?" I even told her that the ponies weren't hurt at all and she still insisted. You can blame her for this bad review then. Overall, awful experience but may have gotten better. I don't know, as I've said I left before they added The Nest (their SEN provision). Why they didn't have one in 2014-2018 I don't know. P.S. I'm fairly sure my first Reception teacher was racist. She said, "This is how we draw a five" and drew a five on the board. Then she said "And this is how [black student] would draw a five" and then drew a deliberately screwed-up five. Needless to say, I hated her and I was glad I missed her leaving assembly. Still am.
