What an Excuse of a School

The fact that this "school" got its income REDUCED by the government clearly shows how much they care about this place. There is a lack of variety in the staff and there is absolutely nothing done about bullying here. This "school" is open to everyone, but should it really? Not only do the teachers suck but so do the students! There is a visible increase of chavs who think they're hard, ruining lessons! And what do they get? They miss 2 lessons and go back! That's it! What confuses me more is that you can get 1 warning then be sent out of class. But when your in the SLR (Separated Learning Room) you can get 3 until you are sent sent to another school?! Please as a student here I warn you, go anywhere else but here! The prices for food here are HORRENDUS. £1 for a BOTTLE OF WATER?! Your joking right?! I also think that the staff here have NO idea that not using the toilet can cause health problems! The only exceptions they make are for people with medical conditions. Well, if you don't let me go to the toilet, THEN I MIGHT GET ONE!!!! What a joke of a school! 1 star for you!

John Cabot Academy 😡

John Cabot Academy is the worst school I think I’ve ever been in in my 12 years of being alive they have terrible food service the head teacher isn’t very strict and lets kids get beat up ********* ******* it’s a horrid student I don’t recommend at all unless you want to be severely bullied

My daughters traumatic experience.

Everything is horrendous about this school. I'm ashamed as a mother that my student has had horrible results back from her tests. SHE IS YEAR 8! She's told me she is failing maths because hr maths teacher doesn't teach her anything.

The social elements of the school are bad

Theres too many chavs there needs to be the test to get in again
The punishments handed out for bullying are not good enough.

Academics Ok, standards have slipped considerably

As a student here for a few years now, I have to say my time at John Cabot has been not the best experience. A major issue is the dealing with bullying, Homophobia is rampant and is not taken seriously at all, teachers treat it like a joke, and lots of LGBTQ+ students say that ‘sometimes they feel like second class students.’ The amount of abuse they have to deal with is unthinkable, and many of them say ‘I dread to have to come to this school’ and I don’t blame them. Along with this, many teachers don’t seem that approachable when you want to talk about your problems, it seems like your issues go in one ear and out the other, and then there not dealt with, its made quite a toxic atmosphere on unchecked on bullying as the bullies know nothing is going to happen to them, it’s really upsetting and the students have brought up this issue again and again but alas, they still don’t listen to us. Academically, John Cabot is actually quite ok, with lots of highly qualified teachers trying to help you, if the only thing you want is results and a good set of GCSEs John Cabot is an ok choice, but if you want a school life when you’re not called a homophobic slur on the regular, I’d consider other options. I personally don’t think John Cabot will return to its glory days of OFSTED ‘Outstanding’ anytime soon.

Ok school academics wise, with safeguarding HA no.

John Cabot academy. Over the years the food has gotten more pricey despite the food also shrinking. A bottle of water you can get in Tesco for 20p is £1 in JCA and is now the only drink you’re able to buy. The homophobia is unreal and the teachers do not deal with it the way they should. Instead they forget about it. It is the same with racism, islamophobia. When there is a serious issue regarding one of the teachers instead you get punished for shining a light on something, despite it being against the teacher code of conduct. Teachers also do not know how to handle common mental health issues and disorders such as ADHD, depression, anxiety and autism. Instead they remove stress toys from students and stop telling them to fidget and stuff like that. I have talked to many off my lgbt classmates and most of them have said that they do not feel safe due to the slurs they get spat at them in front of teachers. And with me and some of my trans friends, the school does not care about our dysphoria and how we are uncomfortable with or without certain pieces of clothing (for me it was my school pe hoodie) and sometimes they didn’t bother using our correct pronouns or our name despite us correcting them many times. However when it comes to academics most of not all students are in top sets for atleast one subject and despite some teachers being boring, you do learn quite a lot in jca. They also have safety days atleast twice a year where you spend your whole day learning about different issues such as drugs, human trafficking, sexual abuse etc.
