This school needs improvement!

This school is absolutely appalling. The amount of unnecessary stress and anxiety they give to their students is terrible. They don't care about students health and mental wellbeing they just care about their grades and GCSEs. Somebody I know got into a fight (not physical) and went to go and tell the "year leader" at the time about the situation. What the "year leader" did was sat the two down and had ONE of them share their side on what happened. Then the "year leader" jumped to conclusions and put the somebody I know into anger management for no reason what so ever when they didn't even get a chance to share their side of the story. The amount of rules they have is inappropriate such as not being allowed to use the toilets during a lesson if importantly needed. The amount of bullying there is also unnecessary and the way that teachers just brush it off their shoulders like it's nothing is awful. The good side to this school is that they frequently check up on how the students learning is going. What I mean by this is they will do frequent knowledge checks to see how everybody is doing and if they are learning properly. Also a comment on the food they are always rising the prices and shrinking the food so kids are going home hungry.

Complaints

With the increasing amount of rules and overpopulation, bullying is becoming more and more frequent around all years. The attitude to learning which students have, needs to be improved including how much respect teachers should have for students. Teachers often brush off incidents or take them further than they need to. And the grades given in students school reports are often a lot lower than they should be getting. Students have poor attitude and respect to their peers which has lead to people creating instagram accounts being made about the school posting pictures taken without consent known as “muggies” of students and sending them to other people. More students are accepted into Kelvin each year which makes it highly overpopulated, so walking through hallways to your next lesson is a big challenge. The conduct card has recently been introduced to help behaviour. This has worked but has caused students stress of getting to lesson on times as it is hard to walk through hallways without crowds and groups. The hallways need more teachers watching as people make fun of you when walking past, grab peoples lanyards and throw them to the floor, shove and push people and shout insults at peers. The increasing rules do not help these matters either. With phones banned and behavioural issues increasing, it often makes the students feel stressed. So the wellbeing team is one of the places students turn to. The wellbeing zone is a quiet and safe place to go to but could be improved with more staff availability so there is less waiting. At lunch, it is sometimes quite a challenge to get your lunch. The lines end up being so long that they often lead into the main school, overcrowding where people are sitting. The lines do eventually die down, but it is impossible to queue without people aggressively pushing and shoving you or students hurling insults at each other. The dinners ladies do not listen when people complain, and students often leave litter and spare bits of food on their table without cleaning them up. There has also been a lot of experience with students of people throwing food and litter at each other. People on numerous occasions have had flatbreads thrown at their heads. The food itself is good quality but the amount of time people get to have lunch should be extended from the overpopulation. Thank you.

Overcrowded

Awful school, ridiculously overpopulated. No way should they be taking on as many students as they do. You can hardly breathe in the school corridors, and you often get pushed and shoved, as there is a subconscious school hierarchy. Another topic is the severely awful handling of things such as racism, with teachers enabling and excusing the behaviour.

Barley anything good

Recent former student.
The school never did anything to help students. It was all to save themselves and save their name. A kid tried to kill themselves and it took them days to tell the parents. One of the year leaders (who retired between 2019-2020) outed at least 3 LGBTQ+ kids to their homophobic and transphobic parents putting them in psychical , emotional and financial danger. Multiple (over 6) students were sexually assaulted and harassed by another student and when majority of them came forward, the senior and relevant year leading staff promised to deal with it, they did nothing. The kid got sent to counselling which ,according to rumours, their mum then payed them out of. Now in college, Kelvin hasn’t informed the college that the kid has gone to of the things they did. There were issues with racism from staff and students where the senior staff once again did nothing. There was also issues with food where year 10s and 11s would never have enough food because of lower years having extra’s and despite this being brought up by students, it was never solved. Absolute hypocrisy between staff and students especially with makeup, piercings and hair.
The only good thing about that school was certain members of staff that had enough decency and braincells to stand up for the students.
