Macmillan Academy 👎

Most horrible school out there, teachers put everything under the rug although parents come in all the time. They try getting rid of the kids that talk out loud about their problems to not give the school a bad view although everyone knows this school is horrendous and no child should have to go through the fear, worries, nights of not eating or not sleeping because the teachers cannot do their jobs!!!

Read this

You will get so much support on your work and if there is a problem they will try their best to solve it. They have the best teachers, that will help and support you in the 5 years that you have. They try and try to make you succeed in life, they want the best for you. Sometimes it's hard but you has classmates that will help you if not ask the teacher. (Always TELL,TELL,TELL)
They have the best community and staff. I would advise you to bring your child or children here. Thank you........

Horrible school

This school is atrocious. If you’re thinking of sending your kid here don’t even think about it. Their response to bullying is non existent my daughter has been bullied and is scared to speak up because the school won’t do anything about it they preach about tell tell tell but don’t even follow it themselves and seem cocky. They always become friends and protect the bully in every way possible and blame the victim for everything. My daughter had been threatened with isolation because she stood up for herself against someone who has caused her multiple problems and when she attempted to try and explain it to the teachers they accused her of ganging up on another student and portrayed her to be the bully when all she did was stand up for herself because she’s sick of being hassled by the same girl. The teachers there are so cocky and the way I’ve heard them speak to students is disgusting🤢 they be putting to the “I care” act in front of us parents but I know how they’ve treated many of our children. My daughter is in her last year of secondary and I’m getting her straight out of that school the teachers there should all be ashamed of themselves and should learn how to deal with situations properly instead of blaming and threatening our children with punishments that aren’t deserved. MacMillan need to do better absolute disgusting

Ofsted

Don’t bother sending your kids here!

as a 11y student Macmillan academy is honestly a cheap school the staff only care about the grades of the students and not the mental health of them children scream racist words isn’t a problem but a student wearing a jacket under they’re blazer or a coat inside when its -3 degrees is not to mention that they force the students to stay outside during social times no matter the weather!? the heaters don’t get turned on unless Ofsted are visiting disgraceful Not to mention the food situation is outrageous and a few times sandwiches have been offered out of date!! And now toilets are not a human need in this school as your not allowed to go.

Hellhole

I hated my time at this school, I was bullied relentlessly and no effort was ever made to stop it. Most Staff are an utter disgrace- favouring the popular students. It almost seemed they were stuck acting like petty teenagers themselves. There is no mental health support at all, i was once shouted at to ‘just calm down’ while having a panic attack by my head of year. The school is cheap and wont even put heating on in the winter and yet fly the sports teams all over the place. It really is an embarrassment to the educational system. If you’re thinking of sending your child here please don't, it may look good in the open evenings but i promise you it isn’t. However my tutor (Mrs steel) was an absolute godsend, she kept me going throughout my time there and never failed to support me, she really is the only good thing at that hellhole.

Atrocious

I still go here and i hate it. Their support to people being bullied is atrocious and people have physical fights and get physically injured more often than expected. Support staff seem to think that they are still in secondary and make friends with the bully’s meaning nothing ever gets done about it. The school’s ‘warm’ food is cold and hard and the toilets are always over crowded with people vaping, you have to use the disabled ones instead. In my primary school my teat scored were above average, but after my first year they dropped extremely low and its just been down hill from there with no support or help from staff i feel myself struggling with everything. I do not recommend this school you should send your kids down the road to acklam grange.

Amazing

Teachers are very kind and have many great ways of teaching. Many ways to get involved throughout the year meeting many people on the way.

Terrible place.

I went here and it was absolutely disgraceful. Like stated in prior reviews, the support with mental health issues such as anxiety is non existent.

The teachers seem to be stuck thinking that they’re 16 and preferred making friends with bullies rather than doing their jobs to put an end to bullying.

There was a lot of victim blaming in this school regarding bullying and students with particularly difficult home lives.

Mrs Scott gets a special mention ( well done hun☺️) for telling me that I was ‘nothing but a problem to her’ on my last day. I’d never had a detention or been a bad student. The ‘problem’ she was referring to , was my struggles with anxiety and bullying that she did nothing to resolve. Funnily enough, I’d like her to know that she herself is nothing but a nuisance to almost every student in there.

Of course I didn’t leave with the best grades, but like I predicted, when I went to a new college my grades shot up from 3’s (d’s) to A*’s within one year of being there. I’m now in a great position in life. ( no thanks to macmillan , who even tried to ignore my continuous requests for a reference and almost cost me an amazing position with a great apprenticeship, due to their pettiness).

In hindsight they were probably embarrassed that I did actually succeed in life ( which they said I’d never achieve ).

Avoid this school, the teachers lack maturity and training and are utterly contemptuous. Just thinking about walking in the entrance used to give me nausea.

I consider myself to be a fair and just person , and will mention that not everyone in that school is bad. The departments I’d particularly recommend are the IT, Math and English departments. All the teachers are lovely, hardworking and deserve more recognition for this.

As for the heads of year, head teachers and PE department. Grow up. 😂

ATROCIOUS SCHOOL! 🤢

This is one of the most disgusting RACIST and atrocious looking school in the whole of uk. These teachers think they own the school screaming at kids with their yellow teeth and fishy piss breath telling me about I need to take my jacket off when it’s -3 degrees and you can’t even afford to put the heaters on ? They’re walking in big fluffy jackets and expect me to be fine in a thin low quality ugly red blazer . The RACISM in this school is unbeliable the teachers pick on the pakistanis & black people a lot . IF YOU'RE A PARENT THINKING TO SEND YOUR CHILD PLEASE DONT YOU ARE BEST GOING ELSEWHERE ! You don’t want your child to go through what you go through in this place . The corridors are dirty and the staff are so ugly too? Why do you hire ugly looking staff we atleast want to be able to look at you when you are teaching us but you just standing there with your ugly ass faces. The students here are chavs and goths and honestly the only normal person here is me unfortunately . This school is a disgrace and it needs to be blown up !!!!

Awful School

Macmillan Academy is an awful school. Truthfully I have caught teachers vaping in their cars and students smoking weed and doing drugs on site. It’s also not ideal when the hall ***** are screaming at you to take your coat off inside when it’s 0 degrees and they’re too cheap to turn on the heating. Some teachers are really nice though and the MFL department are especially great people.

Average school , needs improvement

The school has went downhill over the 5 years I attended . First off , there is a total lack of care for the students overall , while I was in year 10 learning my GCSE material I had 5 different science teachers over the course of the year , each one progressively got worse and worse . We would be lectured on the smallest things that happened , talking about “ wasting our time “ but would then rant for half an hour then wasting more of our time for something as silly as loosing a glue stick . Let’s not even get started on the mental health facilities , because there are none . Some individual teachers were excellent when it came to needing help in all aspects , but the school as a whole needs some serious training on how to handle mental health issues . They would also hire younger teachers who didn’t have much experience and give them to the year 11s who were about to sit 2 weeks of exams . Aswell as this , a lot of the staff seem to have power trips , especially the PE department who apparently believe they run the whole school. I’m so glad I’ve left and went to a different college , because what I’ve heard from multiple friends who still go is that the college is no better and they’ve handled covid so badly that at one point nearly half the sixth form was off and had to isolate . Although they go on about growing up and acting like adults , they still treat you like children and I’m positive they make up rules as they go along . They also tried to get a ban put on skirts but ultimately failed as I think they might have realised how silly of a rule it would have been . I’ve had family members attend the college and leave after the first year because of how bad it really is . There’s some teachers that make attending school better , but the majority of them are miserable and give out detentions like they are going out of season . There’s so much favouritism , especially with the boys in sports . The boys got special mentions in assembly’s all the time for their sports achievements but I’ve only heard one announcement about the girls in all the time I’ve been there . They have limited seating in and outside the school , and you get shouted at for sitting inside and then are expected to go stand in the cold at lunch as certain years are only aloud in certain times . The teachers could save themselves so much hassle if they dealt with situations correctly . They seem to be spending their money in all the wrong places . It’s average as a school over all but I’m not surprised how bad the ratings have gotten over the years . Lockdown and leaving that school early really was a blessing in disguise because I’ve gained so much more confidence and taught myself to stand up for myself aswell and learning real life lessons .They need to start treating their students like secondary students and not toddlers .

Just awful

IT IS AWFUL, there’s low amounts of mental health understanding and the bullying in that school is OUTRAGEOUS. There are a few good teachers and a few opportunities but only if you’re ‘the perfect student’ going to this school was one of the worst times of my life.

0/10 , not good

i do not at all recommend this school. there are many reasons but i will name a few that stand out. the school clearly favour the sports department. the mfl (languages) trip spent 72 hours travelling by coach to spain while the netball team get to fly by plane to disneyland paris. the sports teachers also clearly favour the male teams over the female. in assembly, one boys cross country loss was discussed in great detail, whilst the girls football teams national win was barely mentioned. if you are a boy looking to do well in sports, then maybe the school is for you, but if you are not, i would reconsider. the communication skills are also very poor, with children being made to hand out letters for events rather than the teachers informing the people involved. communication is often very last minute and emails to parents are full of grammatical errors. “personalised reports”’are quite the opposite, with teachers sometimes forgetting to even edit the generic comment they have used. in a report that my child received, she was referred to as “he” numerous times and the wrong name was even used at the start of the document. this shows a lack of personal feedback and attention, in my opinion.

overall, terrible

truthfully i did not have a good experience at all at this school and i would not be happy to recommend it to anyone.
they have very little outdoor space but refuse to let you stay inside at lunch times, even in winter. although some teachers are caring, many are extremely rude and have a disregard for students feelings and mental health. there is a clear priority of grades over mental health, which i have seen first hand have extremely negative effects on students. on top of this push for good grades, there is little to no “fun activities” which take place. due to supposed “past issues” the school do not allow charity non uniform days or fundraisers. in the run up to christmas, the holiday is not to be incorporated into lessons, with no christmas activities to take place, even on the last day of term. events that used to take place such as an “outward bound” expedition have also been abandoned in recent years meaning there are no longer any year group trips.
the depressing atmosphere is not helped by the interior of the school, which has recently been redecorated to black and grey and has been compared by parents and teachers to looking “prison-like”. the handing of covid-19 has also been disastrous with hundreds of students being sent home due to lack of organisation and planning. overall, terrible.

average

it’s average. as a secondary school, it has good support in terms of academics but they don’t do much in terms of bullying and harassment. the teachers will do whatever they can to get you the good grades. as a college, it’s a bit iffy. they didn’t take into account the covid pandemic when doing christmas stuff and tried to get the whole year group in one room without masks. from an education stand point, the teachers yet again give good support and there are mental health services. harassment isn’t tolerated either which is good. the site is good but lots of litter
