Going from bad to worse !!

This school goes from bad to worse. They now have a 'line up' every morning like they are in the military, which I see no benefit.
Also children have been told that due to recent donations being so poor they are no longer allowed mufti days. Not sure what donations they were referring to but a senior member of staff did tell students that because the food bank donations were so poor they won't get to have mufti. Why is the school tracking donations, and are they unaware of the current situation and some families may not be in a position to donate food or they may be getting it from food banks themselves.
What is going on with the leadership of this school.

Whole school

It's turned terrible

Since this school became an academy it is become out of touch. My children hate going to school now. They are starting to run this place like a prison. Having to line up in the play ground like prisoners moving around the school in silence and not permitted to use the toilet during class and if they are permitted, the school keep a tally. Its a disgrace. He amount of calls i've had regarding the need to wear a blazer all the time is unreal. I wouldn't mind if they were actually learning something. They have taken on a power hungry regime. I am so glad my daughter didn't stay on for 6th form and her remaining friends in 6th form are now rethinking their options. My son in year 10 will find any excuse not to attend now and I don't blame him. If he was a little younger I would definitely be changing his school. What once was an amazing school with happy pupils has now taken a turn like all other academy trust schools being run like old fashion out of touch and out of date morons. Please think twice before sending your kids here. My children learnt more in lockdown than here. Miserable students do not learn better. When will you people realise that?

amazing

i found this school an amazing place to be after having a seriously tough time at my previous school, they really helped me get up to date with new topics that i hadn’t yet been introduced to as i joined their academy quite late in my education so i was very grateful they were able to help me make amazing progress while in their care and welcomed me so warmly. i am glad to say i left with the GCSES i wanted all thanks to them.

The acctuall teachers do not care only the ones who have to care about them truely do. They care about the schools appearance more then the their mental healths and "issues". Friends of mine suffer so much to the point where they dont even come in and then the school fines them. Some of these teachers are acctually are very despicable. Maths isnt liked very much beacuse of how mentally abusive they are towards the children. If you truely want your child to be happy do NOT send them here. It will destroy them!

Do not send you children to this school.

This school is absolutely horrid. All the head teacher cares about is stats, money and her reputation. The current Year 8s have horrific behavior. One example is my daughter being bullied and the school doing nothing about it. My son still goes to the school and is currently doing his GCSEs. He has dyslexia but he can read fine he just can't process things and sometimes needs things explaining in different ways. The school have done nothing to support him and I have had to write dozens of emails and have many meetings about him getting support and they are still doing nothing. My daughter has recently left the school and joined heles and is doing much better.
The school also heavily relies on cover teachers sometimes my kids having a cover teacher for every lesson in a day. Covid 19 has been the perfect excuse for teachers not coming in.
Do not send your children here if they do not require support because believe me you will get none.

DONT SEND YOUR CHILDREN HERE

im in[NOT GONNA SAY YEAR] i hate it. teachers are so horrible to you but some are quite nice if you have shit going on w you for me i have anxiey, depression i couldnt go in the school for about 2 months because of it. it had made me sick and i had to go to the hospital because of how bad i was. i come in a bit late now only on some days my anxiety is really bad in tears and i go to my head of year office and the pastrol metor would just take me to my class not even ask if im okay or send me to the base as i was so stressed. please parents if your reading this there is not going to be a good school even if you decide not to send your child here so if you have time out of your life please home school your child but give them the choice. students are so drained DONT SED YOUR CHILDREN HERE

Don't trust them!

If you really love your child don't take them to this school! The amount of kids suffering with anxiety and depression from this school is through the roof! Bullies are not stopped!

If i could give 0 stars, i probably would. The amount of times kids go home crying, locking themselves in their rooms because of the way in which they have been treated at school is shocking. The teachers target specific children in their classes to make the kids feel bad about themselves and to think they are useless. Kids at this school don't respect one another to the point in which physicall fights happen leading kids to go hospital. They have no process with bullying which is shocking. The ratio of good and bad teacher is 3/10 (3 being the good teachers). The people here really need to sort their act out. And in all honesty i don't know how this school is still running.

SHOCKING

This school is honestly discusting.I know people who have been getting bullied but the school do nothing about it.The teachers dont care about students mental health and make students feel uncomfortable by pointing out things wrong, such as the length of there skirts or there hair colour.Apparently knees are “a distraction to learning”,when they are shown. The school only care about how the students look and if we do the homework. As a year nine students i atleast spend 45mins-2hr on homework a day,Which if you add that to the school hours that is roughly 9hours a day. That is so draining for a child. Most of the teachers really couldnt care less about how we are feeling. If we miss a detention it gets longer,if you have half hour it turns to an hour, and then if you miss that detention it becomes seclution.Dont get me wrong there are a few very good teachers that seem like they care, but the rest need to sort there acts out and treat us with respect.PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR KIDS HERE IF YOU WANT THEM TO HAVE A HAPPY CHILDHOOD!

Horrible school honetly

All teachers are bad. They only care about gcse passes or dress codes. We arnt allowed any say in how we feel and we arnt allowed any light makeups or short false nails.Apparently hair colours distracts students of what they dont.We get secluded for having hair colours. We get final warnings/warnings for calling out. Some teachers are good and the rest are honestly dreadful.Barely any teachers care about how much we are struggling. If we dont do homework we get into trouble and detentioned. if we skip detention because of a bus u have to take u get secluded or it extends to an hour. The school is honestly so bad and whilst u have the chance DO NOT send ur children here.

Terrible.

Awful school, feel bad for any child unfortunate enough to be sent there. Teachers couldn’t care less about their students other than their grades, bullying and mental health concerns are constantly ignored for the sake of earning good reviews in regards to results.

It’s okay I suppose

The school is okay, the teachers do their best to try and help you but some teachers just couldn’t care less. I was sat by self on a separate little table at the back of the class and was laughed at simply because it was an odd number. The school could be better regarding mental issues and not believing you one bit if your feeling ill or injured and if you’ve been sick they will keep you in a room and if your not sick again infront of them with proof you will be sent back to class. If your late by even 1 minute it’s an 1 hour detention after school and with online homework even if you do 19 mins and 59 seconds (online homework has to be 20 mins or an hour long depending on what homework) you will get a 30 min to 1 hour detention. So overall the school is good in some aspects but is also bad in many aspects.

Terrible school

Terrible school. When you first come in for an induction day it seems really good and the teachers seem friendly, but this is all a lie. I recall once being in a lesson and one of the many assistant principals walking around putting up colourful posters on the wall because they wanted to make the school more inviting for the upcoming induction day. However, as soon as this induction day was over, all of the posters were taken down. There are a few nice teachers here, but the ones making the decisions, mainly the head and PMC along with the head teachers little pet KLM, are not very friendly and don't give a sh*t about anything other than grades and uniforms. They try to hide people with disabilities and will even allow teachers to punish people who are mentally challenged and cannot help themselves. They don't reward good behaviour either, but sometimes they will reward people who are generally poorly behaved if they do even only one good thing, whilst ignoring everyone else always putting in 100%. They are terrible when it comes to safeguarding and keeping students mental health well, and will let students with learning difficulties fail and fall behind because they only care about those who will get the schools grades higher. Terrible school and terrible teachers. Most of the teachers aren't even employed by the school, but are supply's. Even people doing their gcses are given supply teachers. For this years computer science GCSE, some of the students had their coursework ripped out of their books by the teacher the day before he left (probably because he gave them information he was not allowed to concerning the upcoming exams). And when the school were confronted by this, instead of punishing the teacher, they claimed they couldn't because he had resigned his position. This was obviously not true however because he ended up returning a couple days later. Another incident was to do with the iMedia exam this year. The teacher that was taking the class decided to leave in October 2021 and didn't return until the exam was over. However, he did eventually show up - THE DAY AFTER THE YEAR 11'S HAD LEFT...

This is not a school, it's an institution. Do not come here.

A broken school

I am actually discusted with this school. All the teachers are only there to get paid.Induction days they act all nice but they are vile. The head hired horrid teachers there's only one who actually cares. They like to pick out your flaws and are over obsessed with how you look. The year nine head (j str)never sorts out the issues his students tell him.The school have the conduct card system and if you get 3 strikes you get a detention. FIND A DIFFERENT SCHOOL WHILST YOU STILL CAN.

TERRIBLE SCHOOL

Absolute shocking how they can still be open (fomer pupil) the school only care about there image especially the headteacher the previous headmaster made that school into a fun place to learn with it about the community as well the new one absolutely destroyed the school shouldn’t be aloud in teaching let alone the headteacher had her as a maths temp and every single lesson was just maths tests no actual work this was year 11 as-well
When should At least be revising there were a few nice teacher very few and far between couldn’t even have any sort of relationship with your teachers Because of constant temp work

The true plympton academy

As a student at the school I am disapointed.the head hires every rude teachers.when induction days come for new students the whole mood changes and the teachers act all nice.there is the odd few teachers who actually care. All the staff just care about uniform, they dont care how we feel deep down and you can tell there in it for the pay.Apart from the few teachers the school point out every flaw and make the students feel like crap. They act like there helping but there really not.The year eight head soon to be year nine doesn't do anything about the issues I report to him and often blames me for them.If you want happy healthy children I would advice to find a different school

An honest review.

Schools are linked to the community, OFSTED will agree with this. Plympton Academy was a school that was the heart of the community of Plympton. Following of what could only be called a management takeover, the current head has moved the focus away from the community and towards her image. To be a head that is remembered you have to be a people person, unfortunately as of the writing of this, the head, empathy isn't a skill they have demonstrated.

Fairly decent unless...

Overall, it's an average school at surface level. There's some cool new facilities in the newest addition to the site. The food is actually decent, too.
Scratching deeper though, you'll find that some of the most vital facilities are both understaffed / not given enough financial attention.
The aspect that deals with the mental health of students is generally not great. The pastoral offices are just little cupboards, often shared with the head of year which makes it hard to talk to them. The place where people with certain behavioural conditions go is a cupboard, essentially. They're almost put away from the general population in a special room for break & lunch. Behaviour is managed on a 3 strike system, on the third strike students are sent to a room for the whole school day - makes people just not want to attend since you don't actually go to lessons during this time, making going to school basically Useless. In the case of teachers, you just have to click with them if you want a chance of having an enjoyable experience. I know a lot of them are just trying their best with what they're given, but if you don't like them, the subject gets a lot harder to manage, enjoy and actually succeed in.
Also, if you're prone to bullying, swerve away! This place is notorious for not dealing with that in a good way.
Overall, I'd say its alright unless you require assistance with other conditions - they may not have the best facilities.

Pa needs to actually care

No real care for my mental health only the bare minimum and the pastoral people who actually care work in a shack that barely holds has been through a fire and the main department office is no word of a lie a cupboard room the room for kids having meltdowns due to a disorder or disability is also literally a cupboard and the school invests in literally only looking good the teachers are clearly stressed and the information to parents about issues is horrible and they have literally lost diagnosis papers for kids and kids with disabilities are not taken seriously and mocked kids with mental health issues are literally only helped minimally by main head of years the actual mental health shack living team are just not taken seriously the head of year 11 is rude and treats people disgustingly especially kids who really need help using just horrible times to get things her way and anytime a student brings up an issue they are shut down some students seem to have it easy punishment wise bullying is not taken seriously no real help for academic struggles is in place the shack team does their best and the school only care about top set and they will literally hide mentally ill or disabled students in the bottom sets or lower especially when ofsted visit this school is terrible

Plympton Academy Review

Alright school, mostly all of the teachers are nice & friendly however the maths department isn’t liked very much by myself, my son, his mates & all their parents that I keep in regular contact with. The teachers are one of those weather you get on with them or you don’t. If I’m rating the school as a whole it’s a pretty nice school especially with their new building being built. But if I’m rating my child’s experience their then not the greatest. Myself and his Farther are both questioning possible homeschooling when pupils return to school as this whole Covid Lockdown Period has saved us a lot of money in school meals and bus fairs. Plus he’s enjoyed it a lot more by being allowed to wake up when he wants, not being rushed into getting work done & handed in, being allowed to have regular toilet brakes, being allowed to eat when he wants then I think the final thing would be being allowed to listen to music of his choice when working. I am not saying all parents should consider homeschooling their child however this Covid Lockdown homeschooling has made a massive change on his learning & general behaviour.
