Queen Elizabeth's Grammar Alford - A Selective Academy

How this school is not under investigation is baffling: the overall toxic environment has destroyed the morale,and mental health of multiple generations of teenagers. Sexual assault, particularly male students against female students, is an issue that is hushed-up by staff to the point where students are either scared to report it because they will not be believed or taken seriously, or, when they do report incidents, they are met with 'boys will be boys' attitude that, along with this establishment's blinkered concentration on high grades taking preseidence over the general wellbeing and worldly-readiness, belong far in the past. The blatant favouritism towards certain students, who hold an ability that will look positive for the image of the school, is barely disguised. Poor behaviour is readily, and repeatedly, overlooked where the student is a high-achiever, either academically, or in sports, or a creative field. Whereas similar poor behaviour from students who are seen as 'average', or not a laudable asset to the school, become targets for teacher on student bullying, that will remain entirely unchecked, to the point of blatantly lying to parents about events that have occurred. Throughout the town, there are hundreds of QEGS alumni who share similar accounts from their time at the school, and the outdated, frankly dangerous, culture that is being allowed to continue seems to be generations old. Incredible how much of this can be hushed and hidden by pushing high academic grades into the public arena. I don't expect this review to make the slightest bit of difference: the elitist tunnel vision is far too embedded. However, if it makes even one parent or student question their decision to send their child to/elect to attend QEGS, then it has been worth writing.

Crap school, don't care about happiness, did NOT like it here wayyy too much homework. Worst years of my life - would not come back if they payed me

Great learning environment many teachers better than others Good facilities

Great, kind and helpful teachers, and extensive facilities including a modern gym, labs, computer suites and a substantial library. However... Limited mental health support and famed for excessive amounts of homework, often with little to no flexibility in deadlines. Would recommend if you don't mind 2-4 hours of homework a night. Varying levels of strictness - some teachers much stricter than others, leading to uneven punishment at times.
