Disappointingly dire.

Worst school in Medway. Bullying policy is total nonexistent, Pastoral care totally
ineffective, Staff do not share any concerns about children, Head of Year a waste of time.
So glad Ofsted no longer rate this place Outstanding, it is way way short of middling, let alone outstanding.

Never known a school, a GRAMMAR school to be so dire, so ineffective, so non child
focused.

Rainham mark

It is an alright school most of the teachers are good and teach well but a few of of them can be unpleasant and the schools new head teacher imposes stupid useless rules.
3/5 stars alright school there are better and worse schools to go to.

DO NOT ATTEND

This school deals with situations regarding the students in a completely unprofessional way, shouting at them unnecessarily with no respect and threatening students and their education. The teachers, especially head of sixth form and new head teacher have shown racism on multiple occasions. They pick and choose which situations to look into, disregarding serious issues whilst blowing small problems way out of proportion.
Our children should not be threatened by their heads of year, headteachers or any other members of staff, yet these members seem to think it’s okay to intimidate young children.
I do not recommend this school at all, it has really gone down hill, especially with the new headteacher. Kids of colour should not attend this school, racism is not okay!

Don’t go to this school.

Pretty sh!tty. The lessons are mainly “open your book and get on with it” and if you don’t get it the teacher usually puts it down to talking , even if you haven’t spoke. There is way too much homework expected in a short amount of time. The school won’t deal properly with bullying , they basically tell you to “just get on with it” they let people be spoken down to , sexualised , they let homophobia just take place whilst most of the students are lgbtq. There has been incidents when a teacher has walked into the class and some boys have got a picture of a girl in the year above / a couple years above and are saying “she’s fit” or “she’s sexy” or “I like her tits” and the teacher laughed and dismissed it. Exam week isn’t right. They don’t acknowledge any anxiety that anyone may have and we barely study in class , if anything , the lessons make no sense half of the time. In PE you either have to be willing to be an a$$ lick to the teachers or be extra sporty to be accepted , without nasty comments , in anything , even dodgeball. I had to move forms , because I couldn’t take it anymore and wanted to commit su!c!de yet the teacher is making me be in classes with my old form. The anxiety I get from school is unreal. They don’t get mental health and the school councellor is sh!t. You’ve self harmed ? You have to go to the nurse pretty much daily to “check you over” and a lot of other things. Teachers are very rude and have clear favourites. They are also very sexist with absolutely every choice they make.
Also. We can get out of school anytime we want. All you have to do is press a button. No monitors or alerts or anything. Plus the gates are left open a lot.
Anyways. Don’t go to this school 🧍‍♀️

An actual ex-student’s review

All these comments are really hyperbolic and unrealistic. As for the individual student with sexual assault claims, as with any case in law, the school cannot act on removing the person, as they are still innocent till proven, by court, as guilty, hence the lack of action (the school is very stringent about its image and how it’s perceived by the public, so harassment is usually dealt with quickly and harshly if discovered).

Almost all the teachers at the school are caring, supportive and very well educated in their respected fields, with their being many Drs in almost every department. Everyone made their own lessons, trying to keep them engaging and interesting and were almost always enthusiastic about the subject. They really aren’t as bad as the other students say, again I expect this is just a bitter Year 8 typing this out trying to revolutionise the school systems with one review. I respected all my teachers, and they respected me. Even by the end of year 11, jokey banter between them was a common occurrence and the teachers were extremely understanding of the covid situation. I sincerely miss them already.

Whilst the homework is excessive, if you do it the day it’s set, and follow a time table, it is easily manageable and greatly benefits you later down the line -you get out what you put in.

Some of the facilities are quite dated and are in dire need of a new paint job, but this isn’t really the schools fault, rather just a lack of support funding towards the school.

Lots of activities and trips to partake in, and I do believe the school is one of the finest in Kent. I have many found memories of this school, and how they cared for me whilst I was bullied.

a no-go

very uncooperative teachers. If you are at the bottom you will be expected to support yourself. lessons are often ‘open a book and get on with it’ except for english literature. pe was terrifying. unless you are an all rounded student, willing to lick the staff’s boots, and popular you will most likely struggle here. most students are either racist, sexist, or homophobic, and i know of multiple students (including myself) who have been sexually harassed by boys even inside the classroom. i have been gaslit and bullied and teachers will stand by and watch. whilst going here, i considered moving school maybe 3 times and now i wish i did.
this experience wont be the same for everyone, but i do believe there is something.. dysfunctional? completely wrong? with this school. as some personal advice, if you are diagnosed with asd and sit at the less educational needs or high functioning end of the spectrum (think aspergers), i would strongly suggest not going here.

RMGS

the SEN department is uncaring, i got told to "calm down" while having a panic attack, i then asked to go home as i was in such a state and was refused due to it "not being a proper illness" and then was made to do a geography test while still having a panic attack. The few kind, caring and genuine teachers are overshadowed by the amount of teachers who are arrogant and show no sympathy for teachers with mental illness. sexism, homophobia and racism are extremely present and not dealt with in anyway. one of the students has multiple rape and sexual assault allegations and the school has made no comment or action on this. overall it's a very average school, and not any better than any schools

My and my peer’s views

A fairly ok school. How we favouritism and sexism is present from teachers and there are multiple pointless rules e.g. turning your phone off before entering the school and you can only turn it on once you’ve actually left school grounds even if the school day hasn’t started/has ended. Expectations are too high and there is no sense of sympathy for students who are overworked and tired of teachers’ arrogance. Problems are rarely dealt with properly and students are often blamed when things go wrong(by the teachers doing). Overall a decent school but the lack of care and respect for young people makes me regret going there.
