Obsessed over attendance

This school is obsessed with 100% attendance. They have introduced a treat/voucher for people who have 100% attendance. Shaming children for being ill, have mental health issues, having a bad day. Absolutely disgusting! And if it's not attendance. It's about uniform and how you look. I wish they were this passionate about bullying and children's well-being. Awful!

Send your kids there only for them to be disappointed and upset

The school only cares about attendance and getting awards, they don't recognise the outstanding pupils and only care about the people who change and help them get there awards for attendance, awarding people who have had poor attendance and have brought it back up with pizza while neglecting those who are in school EVERY SINGLE DAY. They also allow extremely badly behaving kids stay in the school when they should be expelled.

Shelley College from an Insider

I found Shelley College to be very unorganised, apathetic, and completely uninterested in student needs and very quick to blame good students in situations because it makes the situation easier for them. They thrive on no bullying allowed but I was openly allowed to be bullied with proof and told just to admit "I was the issue" when my bully emotionally tore me. Teachers are very forgetful and unorganised always to the students cost and very much with the mentality of "if one person is to blame everyone has to pay the price" and lack of support until they advise to "just give up". Despite the issues with the staff and school system, the outdoor areas are pleasant to hang in the summer, would be perfect if more areas to sit. Plus good sport facilities. Unfortunately the inside isn't the same, during lunch I often find the toilets full of girls in one stall vaping and food all over the floor, toilet and in the sink making it an unpleasant environment. During lesson change overs the corridors are so full there's no doubt you will get pushed and shoved by arrogant students or late to your lessons in result. Overall, I came out with good grades from Shelley but at the price of my confidence and mental health and severe doubt in our countries system if this is the standards they hold proud of.

Only reason it’s a 2 is because most of my teachers really did care about helping students and supporting them in learning. I’ve just left this year and didn’t stay for sixth form due to the bullying me and my friends got with nothing being sorted about it even at some points being told it was our fault. Homophobia, racism can often be overlooked with very few teachers actually punishing students who speak up. Majority of the SLT staff won’t help you out when you need it. I only had 1 member of SLT I was able to talk to about my mental health with the others disregarding it even after so many talkings of how it was important. Social areas way too crammed and when you try to avoid it you are punished. Overall the school is too cramped with too many students and bad behaviour isn’t dealt with like it should be.

Bullying overlooked and school cramped

I’m a student at this school and honestly as someone who enjoys learning and used to enjoy school it’s awful. Overall the learning experience is ok which is what earned it the 2nd star along with the subject teachers generally being ok. Been bullied and nothing has been done apart from one person being excluded for other reasons. Gave up on trying to get sense out of senior leadership team to help with the bullying so went to a subject teacher. Asked to be moved away from one person and I understand if nothing can be done but then got put in yet another class with her and then told to sort it out myself after asking for help from SLT so again went to a subject teacher who actually helped me out. Often get the blame for not doing work when I’m not the one talking all lesson. Feel bad for the teachers who are let down by SLT when they want to do something but don’t have the authority to do so. Put so much more effort and care into sixth form leaving lower school overlooked. All the misbehaving kids get support while the well behaved kids get ignored. Social areas are ridiculously cramped and get in trouble if you try avoiding it, really hope there’s an ofsted inspection soon. Behaviour of some students is also appalling.

My personal review

Teachers can be very unequal and very mean 😡 personal story btw but I got a full lunch isolation for something that was miniscule. They also can't handle bullying properly in my case and although there may be good pe resources and it can be fun at times along with the homework it's okay ,may I add teachers give alot of homeworks that could be due tomorrow

DOFE

Issue that need to be raised

Bullying needs to be reviewed at this school as its still not being resolved, there is a over rate of pupils due to lack of schools or schools close which doesn't leave for pupils to have space in the social area or moving on corridors which is a safety issue if fire or other related issues occur. Autism, deafness, disability, medical condition are a up most concern too, they are not taken notice of, lack of care.

Teachers need to set example

Teachers seem to be able to take as much time off at school as they want, several teachers seem to be off all the time, they should set an example and rules should also apply to teachers if they want good attendance from pupils. If pupils get told to come to school with a cold, headaches, pain etc then so should teachers!!! One rule for them and another for pupils! Very unfair

Lack of interest to bullying.

One of the worse schools ever! On multiple occasions now we have had to get into contact with Shelley College in regards to bullying. Each time nothing has been done about the situation, meaning the bullying has continued. I have 2 children that attend this school and due to the bullying that has continued to happen one of the children was that scared of going to school he was physically sick from worrying about what would happen. Overtime the bullying progressed in which one of the children was threatened by another student that they would face physical harm (being stabbed). Was anything done about this? NO! Copies of the messages were taken to school we were told that we would receive a phone call from a member of staff the same day but never received this apart from a phone call from the attendance staff asking why the kids were not in school, we were left with no other option but to take the matter to the police. School however knowing this still seemed unbothered. The other student was let back into school with no consequences still threatening the life of one of my children. having told a member of staff that they have been told by the other student that they would be killed they were told to write it down. Maybe if one of the children were to end up dead from this they may then take action. Absolutely appalled to say the least.

why did i stay for sixth form?

lower school is poor. a member of staff got me to write a report for an assault in school along with others who experienced the same thing and i never heard any kind of follow up from it. bullying went unnoticed a lot, year nines act like they’re still in first school, some new teachers (eg. patel) left soon after joining (i wonder why?), sexist/racist ‘jokes’ fly under the radar, corridors are tiny and it seems hilarious to shove eachother especially at the end of the day at the main doors, one way system doesn’t work and punishes you for being late when you have to do a lap around to get from rooms before year nine social area to rooms on the cut through corridor while you also can’t get through the mass of screaming year nines. please improve.

Absolutely terrible

Would not recommend this school at all. Bullying is ignored and many pupils and parents let down including my children.
Many teachers very immature and treat pupils more like friends and classmates and no authority. Laughing/joking about when pupils are trying to learn. Teachers telling inappropriate jokes. Police always at the school. School only care about attendance and appearance. This is the only thing they make a big fuss about. If they did the same about bullying maybe they would get somewhere and pupils and parents wouldn't be let down time and time again and maybe them bullies would get proper punishments but this is too much effort for them so gets brushed under the carpet. School is not handled well at all, it's all over the place. Dinner time they run out of food and some pupils left without or have to choose dry unappetising food that is left over. Teachers push into dinner queues to get food but if pupils did this they would get told off! School buses are over run with naughty kids and absolutely packed. Many pupils let down...genuine children that need the help are not getting it because of disruptive pupils that play up get all the help and attention. Be naughty = get more help and attention. The school seriously needs a good inspection and investigating.

School is bad

Social areas are smaller than my shed, it shouldn’t be legal to pack children in like sardines. The school is never clean even after the holidays it has stains everywhere and food splodges all over the windows. The year nines need sorting out their behaviour is worse than a group of angry pigs.

Bullying

I am an ex student from Shelley college, the reason I am not there anymore isn’t because of my age,its about the bullying problem that the school have chosen to ignore while telling my parent that there is no more to be done and that’s it’s out of the there hands, now I have to go to another school out of my area and far for me to travel,it is the schools job to find this school for me,they have been unable to do so just like the bullying situation that is still going on to this day,I have spoken to other parents about my problem and they all agree that the situation is a disgrace and needs to be handled,I will be going to the local newspaper about it if the situation isn’t handled soon, the school said they did what they could about the situation by putting me in there “ssc” this was just a way to remove me from the situation till 3 o clock where it is “out of there hands” a head teacher saw me being robbed and little punishment to the student happened,do not send your children to this school because the teachers here care very little for the students welfare and more about there ratings,I have chosen to write this as I have had enough of the repetitive situations that keep happening while the school isn’t taking responsibility.

Avoid. Pastoral team ruin the whole school.

The pastoral team are awful Cover up dr*gs, s*xual assault and bullying incredibly easy. If the teachers try to help a student they are stopped by senior leadership. The Food is awful which is a Shame bc the dinner staff are great. This school is a great example of why outstanding schools can’t be trusted

Would not recommend

Teachers are good but the other members of staff like heads of years and whatnot are dreadful. They clearly favorite certain children and treat many good kids terribly. Some teachers fail to teach your child the needed material for exams and some don't tell you about work you have to do but then complain you haven't done it. Would not recommend.
