things you should know about shipston high school

i am a former student at this school and i got bullied alot and in my opinion i would say the school is alright the teachers know what they are doing and they do the best they can .although there are lots of teachers leaving so there are so many subs that don't even know how to control a classroom .As Well as there are learning support students and the staff do the best they can do help those students but there isn't a lot of those staff so they are not able to help everyone which i understand but here are students that actually just sit there in their lesson not knowing what to do or how to complete the work which i am one of those people and some teachers do nothing . Furthermore I cried multiple times because of teachers making me stay in because i was not able to complete the work because i couldn't understand it .

secondly there is lots of bullying at shipston high school i everytime i told a teacher they would ' speak to the child ' and i have also had to fill in 2 incident form because i had broken pen and pencils thrown at me , a book thrown at me in the corridors ,nasty comments said to me and blue tack thrown at me and got stuck in my hair and my form tudor did absolutely nothing about it .

lastly during lunch and break time there are male teachers standing outside the male and female toilets and knocking on the door and opening the door and telling us to hurry up which is completely not ok . i do understand people vape and mess around in the toilets but what about the people who don't mess around in the toilets and just go in their to do there business .

Pathetic Excuse of a School

As a student at this school I spend almost every moment waiting to leave. Although I may sound like any other teen, i have my reasons. I would like to begin with the fact that the only subject the school seems to be funding or be worried about is PE. There are many PE extra curricular activities that we are “expected” to take part in, despite there being very few well funded clubs for other subjects. There was a drama and dance club this term which i very much enjoyed but it was clearly not getting the attention and not being seen as important as the PE clubs. To add to this, there is a new gym being built; however, the only stage there is backs onto the canteen, the drama and music classes are just like any other. This means that if you have any of the other many subjects in the same corridor as music, your classes are interrupted by students in music.

Something else i would like to bring up is how understaffed the school is. Today 4/5 of my teachers were substitutes, and currently two teachers i have multiple times a fortnight have been absent for over two weeks. This means I am not learning what i should be as many students at this school see having a substitute as a reason to act like the morons they are.

Currently, the school is undergoing an offsted inspection. In most of my lessons a teacher has *warned* us about the inspection. Now surely if this school was perfectly fine one they would not need to do this. At break time today, there were 16 teachers on duty when normaux there would be less than 5. This was clearly to make a good impression to offsted who are probably being tricked into thinking the school is fine when it’s far from it.

Finally, I would like to express me feeling on how we are basically expected to be plain, sport living clones of eachother. You are not allowed to have your hair cut or dyed certain ways, you can’t wear jewlerry, have any kind of difference in your uniform, or not enjoy sport. Today, i was wearing a pair of sunglasses at break and got told to take them off by one of the 16 teachers trying to make a good impression with the offsted inspectors. Because God forbid we show any sign of individuality!! It also infuriated me how we are always told to “be ourselves” or “express who we are” but the we have to follow a strict uniform policy and have hardly any non- school uniform days. It just seems so pathetic.

I hope any parent thinking of sending their child here thinks twice.

Yours sincerely, a 13 year old girl dreaming of being any whee but shipston high school

Appalling.

As a former student of this school, I would advise parents to move away from enrolling their children here.

With several accounts of pedophilia/creepy behaviour and verbal abuse from teachers, it is best to avoid this school. The school says they are "student centered" but do nothing for students that need extra help.

Most teachers don't even look at student profiles for children with extra needs, which negatively impacts the class experience for the child. Things that need to be put in place such as extra time on tests or different teaching styles for neurodivergent students are hardly ever put into place, and then only from very few teachers.

The school is lucky to have around five teachers that are actually good at comforting students and teaching in a way that lets children have a fun lesson time whilst learning.

However, this cannot be said for the other teachers who have little respect for the children they teach and some even belittle students for less intelligence.

There is hardly any help for students with anxiety, depression or similar conditions whose attendance is still impacted by their absences due to mental health, giving them a bad reputation and making it look like they are not in school on purpose. The school seems to worry a lot more about making itself look good with high attendance students than the students themselves.

Overall, I believe that the school's motto is completely useless, as they clearly do not care for those who achieve lower grades and they are not student centred in the slightest.

Please find another alternative for your child, and give the most support you can for any children you have that go there already.

A great school

A rural school that is dealing with some small minded parents who put damaging comments on here. Yes, those incidents did occur but...there are hundreds/ thousands of positive incidents which the school have been a part of, which, unfortunately people don't post about about anonymously online. There are some fantastic teachers at the school that go above and beyond - everyday, to ensure the welfare of the children they teach. Many lives have been improved as a result of the academic and pastoral support that Shipston provides.

Horrific

As someone who is/has attended this school i can give an honest review. No one at the school has once tried to help with any mental health or physical health issues. I've seen multiple teachers bully students and nothing get done about it.

Teachers have also threatened students and one child who has now left was told he would become a drug dealer when he grows up which is clearly not what you say to a child.

There has been several cases of sexual assault in the school which is obviously disgusting.

One maths teacher made a racist joke towards a student in their form and yet nothing was done. Several teachers have been fired for pedophilia and the amount of teacher suspensions is appalling. There's one good teacher in this school (the drama teacher) and props to her for being a decent person. The school uses children as medals to make the school look good while completely ignoring anything to do with them. Teachers scream at pupils, put them in undeserved detentions all because of their mental state and making it worse.

As someone who has been at this school, a year or so ago i considered taking my life due to the treatment i was receiving from the staff at this school. They preach about mental health and then ignore it when it becomes an issue.

Do not send your children here and if by any chance you do, make sure you're checking on them regularly.

Honestly, avoid this school at all costs

Unless you’re an A/A* student, they won’t care the slightest about your mental health. Half the teachers have terrible anger issues and really shouldn’t be allowed to teach children (there’s a certain maths teacher who essentially bullied half of the class any time we got a question wrong/asked for help, who has also made racist comments as “jokes” and targeted a student who was missing a lot of school for mental health reasons). They have no respect for confidentiality and will tell every single one of your teachers if you say something personal. The food is appalling and overpriced for what they give you, the headmaster doesn’t care about the students as people - he only sees them as tools to make the school look good - and TRUST me, no matter what the teachers say to scare you into doing extra work/going to sixth form/staying after school to revise etc., they can’t force you to do anything and you should just tell them where to shove it.

Also the school has had one teacher fired and arrested for being a pedophile, another teacher fired for being an alcoholic who locked a couple girls in a cupboard, the headmasters wife was “suspended” because she threw things at students, screamed at them and essentially had a temper tantrum. Oh, and a rugby coach was recently arrested for ALSO being a pedophile.

The school’s in disarray and nothing can fix it now. Go to Chipping Campden, Kineton High or Stratford High instead, they’re not too far away.

The headmaster pretends that Shipston is rising from the ashes of the previous head, when really he’s just dragging it down into the dirt.
