Don’t send your child here

I am at the school, going to y8. It’s terrible. I cry every time i think of this school. It’s almost like a prison. The only good thing is the burgers. Which they decided to change and have toppings in, which nobody likes. Do not send your child here

Astrea St Ivo

Honestly garbage, The school gives no thought about students' mental health even though they preach about it like they do. Kids with disabilities get absolutely bashed on by teachers and students alike; Staff do jack shit about bullies and care more about chasing girls around because they have their skirts higher than the way people act in this school.

School education

SCHOOL - PAIN FOR YOUNG STUDENTS TRYING TO GAIN EDUCATION

Toilets for young girls are simply impossible to go throughout the day, the girls struggle monthly and are subsequently stopped for 6 hours to go to the toilet. Toilets at lunch and break are either locked or full and claustrophobic. OUR EDUCATION AT THE IVO is less important then uniform and behaviour .
The ivo should consider moving away from astrea as astrea has kicked out the medical officer and finance team for the school. If someone loses their card there is nobody there, if someone has a critical injury nobody is there. This school is a place of fear and doubt in our education.

Sixth Form

Reflection on current state of affairs.

Extremely saddened to hear the full extent of what is happening at St Ivo School on ITV News tonight.

In 2013 I attended St Ivo after leaving my previous school due to their own military-style policies and can’t believe the same systems have made their way to St Ivo, which was previously an amazing school, much loved by those who attended.

I know of many teachers in the area who work at other Astraea schools having now left their jobs due to the now-depressing state of affairs.

I hope this press attention allows St Ivo School to get back to where it was just under ten years ago. It was a life changing experience for me and taught me that school can actually be an enriching and life changing place - something I would never have believed at my original school.

The tutors there (some of whom have since left due to these policies) helped me discover what I really wanted to do with my life, and I’m now doing it successfully.

That’s surely what school’s all about, right?

SHIT SCHOOL!!

The school is horrible I have panic attacks because of it. Teachers won’t let students go to the toilet in class even if on period and also, when at break time the toilets are packed and only have a little time for breaks. NEVER COME TO THE IVO

Sadistic Teachers ruinning school

Everything I hear about this academy just inhuman, particularly how children are treated, no wonder that the bullying has incread over the years amongst students. The director need to be replaced. What I know is making me terrified of sending my child there, child raised the hand on his first week to ask the teacher a question and was told to stand for two hours with both of his hands up and was given as a punishment 3hr work to do afterwards. 😳 What is wrong with teachers in this school? Are they mentally sadistic?

If you had a choice to go somewhere else, please do

School is rubbish don’t go there please, if you care about your child you won’t send them there unless you want them to be bullied and have really bad mental health. School cares more about their image than anything else.Get told “boys will be boys” if anything happens to a girl at all.The counsellors do not help even if you have been diagnosed. They just tell you it’s not within your mental ability to solve. When you are having problems with your mental health the school takes too long to do anything about it, like waiting 6 months after the student says something to do something about it.

the school that cares more about image and less about hate crimes

This school is terrible, I've been attending for five years now and it has been the worst experience of my life. throughout my time at st ivo school I have been bullied, the first time I went to the staff about the issue they brushed it off saying things like "boys will be boys"
I went to them many other times about this issue as it was getting worse to the point I was harassed daily, despite my attempt at minding my own business and staying out of the bullies way, but they proceeded to take no action.
in year nine when my mental health got really bad the school continued to ignore the wellbeing of it's students while only focusing on how smart we looked.
the school to this day is infatuated with it's image, giving students ruthless detentions for missing a pencil, untucked shirts etc- but then they ignore real issues like racism, hate crimes, harassment, assault- bullying you name it.
even if a students mental health is so bad they can't come into school half the time the expectations for them are never lowered. tons of homework and sanctions are set and no supportive action is taken at all.
they care so much about image that they spend their entire budget on things like expensive uniform families can't afford and then leave no money for proper staff and students. there is never enough food in the canteen to feed all the children and they go hungry way more often then they should. the food itself is abysmal and overpriced. the staff are rude uncaring and bad at teaching their students.
it is a truly terrible place, this review is written with no exaggerations, they do not care for the children's well being at all.

ivo cares more about looking good than being good

The school care more about presenting students as sophisticated then actually dealing with students worries, concerns or even sorting out their behaviour. They don’t provide any real support system for students unless you’re a ‘problem child’ meaning you behave out of order which seems to be the only way to gain help in some cases. especially from the year 11 to 6th form move they provide no information or guidance on what comes next, whereas almost all the surrounding secondary schools seem to be having intervention days where they have full support and guidance on what to do and how to apply to places. to be honest the education side of the school is alright but the bullying and safe guarding side of things are terrible, you’re more likely to get told of for not having a note for your uniform than you are to get punished for things like racism or assault. Personally i think the school could do with improvements on mental health support maybe be having a team of teachers designated to looking after students mental health and things like that, would be better then the SLT members who are power crazy chasing people down for untucked shirts and rolled up skirts.

Lack of leadership

The teaching in this school is good enough however the main problem is with the leadership or the lack of it. They have a major problem with listening to student’s concerns and I personally had to leave the school as they didn’t do anything to stop bullying. The school is always playing catch-up with the surrounding schools and don’t do anything unless they are forced to do it. The school is passionate about its sports but academically it’s underachieving.
