DO NOT SEND YOUR KIDS HERE!

I already struggled tremendously at school and I had a very negative primary school experience, but compared to this secondary school I would say primary was nothing. Most of the staff couldn’t care less about any struggles their students face and don’t listen to reason behind their actions, they would rather label them as a ‘naughty child’ rather than try and understand. The majority are not willing to even try and listen to explanations or help on issues they themselves don’t consider ‘the norm’, many of the staff even telling me I was wrong in things I suffer with myself. The years I attended this school were some of the worst of my life. Even more so this school (going off my experience) keep the most poorly behaved students in their school some even having committed illegal acts and they will do this knowing the students actions. For my time here it was terrifying, awful and overall an extremely overwhelming and depressing experience. For the 3 genuinely caring teachers who worked/work there I apologise that this review doesn’t give you credit, but I will never recover from the trauma of this experience, the staff, and the students.

DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILDREN HERE!

As somebody who already hated school this place made it so much harder for me. The majority of the staff are absolutely awful and extremely rude and take no effort to understand struggles that they don’t consider ‘the norm’. Most of them take no interest in the well-being of their students and would rather consider their behaviour of lashing out to be unprovoked and absolutely unacceptable despite the causes. I struggled tremendously with school, and going here was my worst school experience ever and some of the most awful years of my life. Even more so the absolutely awful students they allow to stay in their school after incredibly bad behaviour and even some illegal acts is ridiculous, some of which they were aware of at least at the time I attended. I sincerely apologise to the lack of credit to the about 3 genuinely good teachers that work at this school, who really did try their best and care for their pupils.

St matthias school

As said in many other reviews, the teachers seem to favour kids, whether it be the missbehaving ones or not, they choose to pick sides and they become annoyed if you dont understand questions. The school also has big problems with racism, homophobia, bullying ect but doesn't seem to do much about it, as they are more focused on what you wear, not taking into account some kids cannot afford the right shoes ect straight away, placing some into isolation and singling out the child, pestering them constantly about when they will buy the correct item. They say they deal with bullying but just make you write it out on a paper and sometimes exclude them for one day, as if that'll correct the situation. Headteacher and student welfare are rude and the welfare team dont acctually help much.
Overall, MANY improvements need to be made.

Could do with improvements

Most of the teachers or nice and supportive. However, they need to be more accepting of diagnosed issues as my brother gets punished for his ADHD when he can’t control when he is fidgeting and when he walks around to help calm himself down. My mum had informed the school multiple times and they didn’t do anything about it and continue to label him as misbehaving. Personally, I have had many issues with the dress code. With the student service teachers commentlng on my uniform. I was made to feel like there was no uniform to fit my body as they always made comments on how tight my skirt was and how it wasn’t long enough even though it was 2 sizes up and didn’t fit my waist. I had to get it bigger as my size is shorter than the “knee length” they expected. Even with this my skirt was just above my knee an I was told multiple times after changing my skirt to buy a new one. I’ve also had them pointing out my vest tops in year 7/& because you can see through my school shirt. I felt like there was no way of keeping up with their expectations. They need to also understand that students should be able to go to the toilet as girls are menstruating and it is a human right to go even in a workplace. Besides these issues I enjoyed my highschool experience. I made good friends and came out with good grades.

St Matthias review.

I personally wish that I chose a different school, seriously do not enjoy it there.
The school don’t handle bullying very well, they give you a piece of paper to write down whatevers happened to you and leave it as that. It took 5 or more different incidents (hurting girls and bullying) to remove a boy in my year.
Majority of teachers favourite students and take sides.
Can I just say it is pretty sexist aswell.. girls need to wear scarfs and not ties and there isn’t any sports clubs for females alone.
a lot of teachers DO learn us pretty well don’t get me wrong but quite a few don’t explain it properly and get mad if you don’t understand a question.

St Matthias review.

I really truly wish i chose a different school. They don’t deal with bullying and take sides and favourite students.
They will just give over a piece of paper to write whatevers happened and never face you again.
It’s pretty sexist to, girls cannot wear ties..
Some teachers don’t teach properly either.

st matthias reveiw

in the school they're quite old fashioned and never listen to the kids if they're being bullied all they do is give them a peice of paper and never look at again, the head teacher once told me I can control my panic attacks. They're also really sexist to the point were girls cant wear ties and instead a peice of fabric, overall I wouldn't reccomend coming here!
