I don’t think it’s a bad school, but there’s definitely lots of room for improvement.
Firstly, the school says it opens at 8 AM- false! There are many kids who arrive early, and they are forced to stand outside until around 8:25 AM, which is extremely difficult during the cold winter months and during strong winds and rainfall, which is certainly not uncommon. When a few year 7s tried to sit in the warm (but containing extremely limited seating) reception during such weather, a member of staff sent them back out immediately saying “you messing around in here will provide a bad reputation of the school to visitors!” Since when did schools start caring about their image more than their children? I believe the bad reputation the school is getting is through staff members who stay inside the warm building from the moment they arrive, with their warm beverages, not minding the freezing children outside- not the normal behaviour of a 12 year old!
I’ve definitely seen some staff favour British children over immigrant children since their attitude changes from talkative and friendly to cold and short tempered for no reason. However, this applies to only a minority of staff.
Now for the good things- most teachers are kind, welcoming and friendly and it’s easy to have conversations with them and express any doubts without feeling intimidated. A lot of them are open to teaching beyond lesson time, so I would say educational support is strong in this school.
Also, for year 11 proms, students can send pictures with their friends to the school and they make a photo book for free! I think this is a great keepsake and definitely a positive and unique aspect of this school.
Overall, it’s not a bad school, but improvements such as assigning a gatekeeper for every day and perhaps hosting more events in which students can participate such as trips would make it even better.
Its quite bad in terms of lgbtq rights at this school with some teachers being particularly bad, PB, RH, but the head is great and curriculum is outstanding.
v good, enjoyed it here, only downside is the fact that there’s no sixth form, and only from looking at others nearby did i realise how lucky i was to have my 5 years here. will miss it a lot
