Okay but awful at the same time

I wouldn’t recommend this school as it’s quite dirty and messy the children vape in lessons most of the teachers are nice but there are also a lot of bad teachers like for instance I know some one who got shouted at by a teacher and they even said there face was ugly it’s okay school but if you can go to some where nicer go there as this schools discipline towards the bad kids is not much for instance there’s a kid who kicks hits throws things at people and even vapes and no they are not autistic they just do it for “fun” and they don’t get disciplined and there’s also like 3 toilets that are always filled with people or they are broken

The reality about the Omorod

I’ve read most of the reviews and nothing mentions how awful the omrod actually is but that’s to expected as unless you are actually a disabled student then you won’t actually ever enter. The entire time i was there i watched them talk down and belittle all of the students and the worst one was when the put a blind girl in a room by herself and two teachers stood outside talking and laughing about it. Also they gave the omorod students lockers but i never used it because when i did use it my stuff had been looked through and left messy or i had things stole and i never got a key so i just gave up using it. Mentioned this to several teachers included my head of year and it never got resolved.

School

Doesn't help with mental health
Should've expelled someone who sexually assaulted multiple people but didn't for the schools reputation

not amazing

this school is a great place for normal children. otherwise, not so much. the omerod base is great, they help lots of kids with disabilities which i think is fantastic, but kids with mental health issues are disregarded and ignored. as one of them, going to the pastoral base is unhelpful as they either send you back to lessons or send you to isolation. this school has a decent amount of kind staff, but others are harsh and overly strict. chewing gum in a lesson won’t distract me or anyone else?? checking my timetable on my phone should be okay, unless you want me wondering around the school until i find my class. this school needs to improve on how it treats lgbtq+ students, to call them by their name and not their dead one. having assemblies about this won’t help any (especially the staff!!) as the students already know and understand what to do about this.

Average school

There is a family of mice living in the geography block so avoid that place. The teachers don’t have control over the class half of the time but some blocks like the DT block have very experienced teachers who know what there doing.I would say that some of the teachers are over the top with behaviour and homework Tho.

Pretty good

It’s pretty good, but some classes are not well thought out, like lots of not very well behaved students all in one class, mostly GCSE, great Teachers and staff all friendly and supportive

Poor handling of "difficult" topics

Teachers are mostly alright. Many can't handle the class however and we end up doing nothing for the whole lesson. They also have a poor attitude to lower achieving students and pick favourites often. Attitudes to mental health are rather poor, we have assemblies on how to "look after ourselves" but they don't really do anything to ensure that we are ok. A lot of difficult topics are "dealt with" by presenting an assembly to the whole school. For example, a transgender student was told transphobic and homophobic slurs by another student. In order to deal with the problem we were shown an assembly talking about transgender people and their achievements (racism and sexism is dealt with in a similar way). However this transgender student is still constantly misgendered by staff. They present themselves as accepting to the LGBTQ+ community but there is very little (or none at all) sex education for the LGBTQ youth at the school. There are many queer students and it would benefit more than just one or two people. Despite being harassed and catcalled by some students, I'd say the good things about the school are the food and the pupils. Most people get on with eachother so it is quite a close knit community and that is something I like.

Below average

To be honest they don’t deal with mental health as well as they could. They don’t deal with bullying and the teaching isn’t overall great. I had a bad experience here and they generally overlooked me as a student who they knew was going to fail from year 7 (yes, I actually got told that at parents evening). I also had a really bad run in with the careers adviser who told me I was “clearly too thick” to do alevels at their school and I should just leave and do hair and beauty becuase it’s easy and I’m a girl (rediculous and sexist) I only came accross one very good teacher who cared for all the students she was my English teacher and helped me accross every single subject. Finally, if you weren’t sporty (in football, netball cricket etc) they didn’t care about you at all. It was a very pick the best for being already good and don’t help the underachievers. Rubbish with bullying and not necessarily supportive of the lgbtq+ but they weren’t totally against it. I did have a couple issues with toutchy feely teachers that got swept under the rug (keep in mind I was 11-12 when these were going on which is vile)

Better than average academic wise.

I agree they don’t handle mental health very well. They also gave no lgbtq+ sex ed although it’s a c of e school so maybe that’s to be expected. I think they should pay the teachers more as they seem pretty overworked at times. Also, you can say that you are on your period for 3 months straight to get out of pe and they would believe you. Would be better if we actually hid and stopped talking during a lockdown drill. They literally carry on teaching when there is a supposed threat on school grounds like what??

Its alright but they dont handle mental health very well. Some teachers will moan about nothing the whole lesson. The headmaster is bald. Lessons are taught well. The canteen has great food.
