The Open Academy

My child is always coming home complaining about this school and from some of the things they tell me i would not reccomend this secondary school to anyone, firstly i have been told the teachers barely teach properly and expect you to get on with the work or coppy from a text book which i think is stupid and shows the teachers only care about when they are going to next be payed. Also i have been told about a teacher called kevin mundy, my child said "he sits on his lap top the whole lesson or when he is not doing this he is staring at students making them feel uncomfortable." When my child asks a question about the work he will either ignore my child or moan at them for not listening, I think this is a terrible method of teaching, also my child has said he has made jokes about self harm and how his class cannot be trusted with scissors, he has also joked about having a loaded gun in his desk and joked about threatening to kill himself.

10/10 would not recommend, I have been bullied in that school many times and all the school did was speak to the students and tell them not to which only made matters worse!

I don't get pushed enough in subjects I'm good at but get pushed too much in subjects I can't comprehend!

Many teachers don't actually teach you anything and just ramble on about life stories or the subject in general to the point nobody at all can understand a word the teacher says.

Terrible at communication between staff, parents and students! I have found times where staff have not been told about stuff like announcements. My parents weren't even notified when the school has shut down for Covid.

Only attend this school if it's the last option possible (even then I wouldn't recommend it)!!!

The cafeteria food, specifically the brownies, don’t taste all too nice. The garden area doesn’t look too cared for, and there is sometimes litter left around outside. The homework amount is overwhelming at times. Most of the staff have been pretty helpful, but some hold all too clear biases towards some students. There is plenty of facilities but the COVID situation made them limited. After school clubs are fine. The building itself looks perfect on the outside, but the inside has a few misplaced ceiling tiles which are easy to take down, cracked walls, spiders in many places and such. As for mental health, it’s ok I guess. I suffer with severe anxiety, and the staff are decent at helping. Overall 3/5.

The people there are are absolutely horrible and most of the teachers are nonces. They don't care about students mental health all they care about is us getting the work done
