No fun in the school

Used to have a quiz on Fridays, removed that for PSHE. Used to be kind with homework, if you accidentally miss it (even if you were in hospital, for example) you get a B- and then a detention. Food providers need to be sorted out, as the food has made some students ill (especially on christmas dinner day).

Amazing school

The Roseland is a great school that gets great results. If you work hard and don't spoil learning for others you will do well. Some of these reviews are from students and parents who didn't do that and it is always someone else's fault...

Don’t send your children to this school.

I’m once again sharing this information with all these guardians and students, this school shouldn’t be allowed to run, complete lack of privacy with the doors being forced open along with cameras pointing into the boys toilets, reflecting into the mirror so they can see the urinals which is an absolute disgrace. Along with the whole idea of trashy school, the teachers give no consideration to what the students do or learn, it’s just by the book, if you don’t do enough work and your students are trying hard, that’s going to be a isolation, it’s just plain cruel how students are being sent to isolation for the stupid reasons. The public see the best side of this school, the outside where they can’t see anything that happens to their children, but the children on the other hand are everything to its worst, there’s no bullying tolerance? You’d wish that existed. I’ve reported bullying on loads of occasions but nothing ever happens and for some weird reason, if they do eventually talk to them? They say the persons name that reported it so they can be even more of a target than before. Along with all of that, in this school there is absolutely no mental health support whatsoever. I tried to make an appointment, it took 6 months for them to say let’s get you booked in. That took 3 more months. I went from one year to another. And I cancelled it because I couldn’t handle their shitty mental support. This school is absolutely horrendous, and any guardians reading this shouldnt send their child here.

Absolute nonsense

Absolute disgrace, school toilet doors are forced open, along with cameras pointing into the boy toilets reflecting at a mirror so they can see urinals. School isn’t taking into account the lack of communication with students, they rate themselves as a non bullying school but there’s been countless instances that haven’t been solved and has been reported on multiple occasions. What they do is they hide the truth behind the school with isolation and detentions, they have things they don’t show to the public and only show very certain information to make themselves look good, as a student here I feel like I’m not learning anything due to the teachers not caring and the lack of mental support and understanding in this school, they advertise that they are the best school in Cornwall, If that’s the best thing Cornwall has to offer I may as well be homeschooled. My rating is horrendous.

No support. Avoid avoid avoid

Just beyond useless.
No belief that behaviour is a way of communication. Punishment given for behaviour caused by learning difficulties.
No individual support.
Mental health declined due to lack of Senco knowledge.

Would recommend

Like with any school there are certain parts I would have improved about going here but all round it is a good school to go to, most students and all of the teachers I interacted with there were very friendly and helped me as much as they could, I never thought I would miss going there as much as I would. The only thing they need to focus on is how the handle bullying as the teachers didn't really handle it as well as they could have but apart from that my time there was really positive.

It could have been so much better

The Roseland Academy is frankly built on superficial bullshit. From the outside it looks amazing: a beautiful school where all children achieve, where opportunities are endless and the environment is respected. I’m afraid a lot of it is lies, most of it even. The school staff seem to have no care for the quality of things of which the public cannot see, only those which make them look as if they’re the best fucking school in all of Cornwall. If you’re a minority your experience is going to be not only horrific, but completely ignored by any form of authority. At the roseland academy, anything from sexual harassment to death threats is acceptable as long as teachers can pretend they didn’t see it. Nazis are free to roam the halls, express their racist opinions and even be entertained by staff. Upon complaining about any of this, a member of staff will set up a meeting with you to tell you that nothing can be done about this and it’s best to come to a compromise that will not benefit you in any way. If you’re mentally ill, you might as well have already killed yourself because none of the staff are prepared to deal with you. If they don’t think they can fix you in the short term they are not going to like you, and if you have no support in your home life then this system will break you.
The school’s big eco reputation is also a massive bullshit lie as well (who would have thought! /s). Upon joining their climate action team, you will be presented with the current plan to help the school be eco friendly: quality for an award that they can boast about on their social media. It basically doesn’t mean shit because it asks questions like “are there fair trade biscuits in the staff room?” despite the blatant lack of vegan options in the canteen that could definitely be seen as more direct action. Speaking of the canteen food, it’s absolutely grim. The only thing I can ever bring myself to buy is a bread roll. Overall I feel let down, there are so many great aspects of this school that would be appreciated so much more if it weren’t for these aspects of which ruin experiences for a large group of people within the school.

Skirt lengths over bullying and mental health

As a former student, I feel the school prioritise situations like skirt lengths and wearing coats indoors rather than situations like bullying or sexist comments. When being there I had always been told to take my coat off or buy other trousers because it’s inappropriate but whenever something was wrong with the school environment or boys were picking on kids for their sexuality or gender nothing was done about it other than being given a warning to stop but they carried on anyway .

It's a no from me

The school failed to prioritise my mental health. Meaning, I was unable to learn nearly anything in my GCSE year. I was targeted with homophobia countless time (including threats, assault, being followed, having slurs thrown at me and just made fun of in general). The school did nothing for ages even after countless complaints with evidence from myself and emails from my mum. Even when I got to the point when I was su***al, I was not prioritised and they failed to make me safe. Thry asked me what I personally needed and then refused to do it until a few weeks before my exams. I was simply told to ignore the bullies, stop blaming people and stop looking into the past (when talking about my lack of support) by a high leading member of staff. It was unorganised, I was constantly messed around and there are only a few members of staff who understand how to deal with students with struggling mental health. The previous head teacher of the school who left mid school year told me every single one of mental health issues would go away with good grades. This is a very poor school who fails there students and then puts the blame on them.

Also there main school meal is pizza. The school food menu is ridiculously unhealthy.

Amazing school

Roseland School is an excellent option for your children as their teachers are high quality and really love their job. Your child is guaranteed to be a high achiever by coming to this school. Definitely rises high above the other schools within Truro.
