Complete Dictatorship

I've recently left Waseley to be home educated and I felt it was right to warn everyone of this horrible demoralising environment. I'm currently in Year 8, about to go into 9 and in year 7 it was okay, for the maximum of two weeks, then the reality set in. Waseley has been through a leadership change, SLT Changes and has lost more staff than I have ever witnessed, being someone who has attended numerous schools. I was originally bullied at Waseley throughout Year Seven and I was told by the Designated Safeguarding Lead that my situation would be dealt with, with the utmost care and privacy and I was not given either, every guarantee that was made was a complete lie, and the school did all they could to protect the bully and silence me. Waseley is an environment where you cannot feel comfortable, happy or safe. If you are bullied, you will constantly feel as if you need to be looking over your shoulder. I would not recommend this place to anyone, I call it a place because it is not a school anymore, it's prison. You can't wear coats inside despite the lack of heating, you cannot take your jumper off without permission, going to the toilet is seen as a luxury including for girls on their periods, refocus and suspensions is seen as the only punishment available, even for teenagers making minor mistakes which are common for people their age.

School is supposed to be an environment where you can learn from your mistakes in the classroom, but my experience was receiving countless detentions simply for 'not having a full do now', I was learning a foreign language and had just came back off a very long amount of time off, yet Waseley continued to punish me for something that was completely out of my control. Waseley lacks in communication both with parents and students. You may be given a detention for whatever reason as a student, but you won't be notified, only your parent will when you get home and find Waseley is now going to be putting you in refocus the following day.

You aren't allowed an opinion, you are barely allowed to ask questions in a lesson and the staff, especially senior leaders are not approachable. Some staff there are really decent people and excellent teachers, but that is a minority, and that minority cannot teach properly or help struggling students because of the 'policies'.

I have had physical abuse in Waseley many times, and I have not once even received an apology from anyone who did it, or the senior leader who I won't name who brushed it under the carpet countless times. I have not once felt safe in this building, especially this year. Students ARE the enemy at Waseley and with the same staff, I don't see that changing with or without a new Principal, Executive Principal or whatever else they are calling it.

Waseley is focussed on keeping students, who are dropping like flies but yet they aren't willing to give the student even a moments enjoyment in their few last years of education. I have found their priorities to be making you line up in silence, even making you miss valuable lesson time to do so, making sure you are in your NUMBERED SEATING PLAN which functions in every lesson as if students are known as numbers again wasting lesson time attempting to identify who is in the wrong seat and then embarrassing, humiliating and penalising them for it.

Staff who do struggle with nothing less than vile appalling behaviour from students do not receive support, despite their own requests and student requests for SLT to help. The amount of Substitute teachers are a joke, I have heard an account of a student today who has had two qualified teachers, only one got the class to settle.

Waseley is nothing less than a dictatorship, I cannot stand it there and I lost sleep and dreaded every single day I had to go inside that building. On the subject of the building, it's got broken glass, doors which have been kicked off by students and paint pealing in literally every classroom I have the displeasure of going into.

Toilets are vandalised and consequences are never given out. Before going to waseley I was a bright, bubbly person who had knowledge in most of my studies, I am now the opposite, I myself and others who are still there have all struggled with our mental health and it is a direct impact of Waseley Hills High Schools leadership that has caused every atrocity in that so called school to take place.

Everyone in waseley will have some sort of story to tell, it is a toxic environment with horrible students and staff, it's such a shame for a school that once had such a lovely reputation. Whatever you do, please don't go there or send your child there, it is the worst decision you could make.

I felt joining an Academies Trust was going to make Waseley Hills High a better school, their ethos has only made us worse. We are apparently 'benefiting from the resources of the trust' but the only change I have seen so far is my drained teachers and our controlling behaviour policy, which takes into account nothing like Special Needs, Behavioural Difficulties, or just teenagers being teenagers. You will be screamed at by SLT, I myself have witnessed teachers calling people 'idiots', shouting numerous times to the point where I now get nervous in a classroom. Waseley really is a horrible environment, it's so bad they won't even let you in their reception anymore. Why? Because waseley doesn't even value transparency.

I find it appalling that some teachers very clearly take pleasure in humiliating and going after students for the smallest things. I had never once been in refocus before this year or received an 'O' or 'L' which is similar to a Negative Point and I have now accumulated so many simply for things like asking questions, asking to go to the toilet, washing my hands, not attending detentions I wasn't given and for 'not being calm and respectful' because I put a cardboard box on my friends head, teenagers really aren't allowed to be teenagers anymore. We are locked inside a prison camp everyday and expected to function like robots, then our teachers wonder why we're too drained to concentrate on our work.

I began suffering with migraines due to stress at waseley, I asked to have a drink and was given a detention for it.

There's no hope unfortunately

Do not send your child here, I really hope it improves for the sake of the students there.

Belshaw out

I have been going to this school for nearly five years, since belshaw has been in he has made the school mentally draining for every pupil in the school. In one the first assemblies we had with him he said “if none likes me rules there gone” , and there went all the good teachers, year 7 and younger years have been told they don’t have teachers because year 11 need them?!, well where are my actual teachers.Last year I got bullied for a long period of time and the school did nothing , other than play “let’s all be friends game” , did nothing about child exploitation and physical harm to me, they just brushed it off like it wasn’t there problem.
2 weeks ago I got put into “refocus” for not wanting to go all the way back to the other side of the school to get a piece of paper(toilet pass) with a medical problem with my joints and bones to the only open toilets (that belshaw was protecting with his whole life), I’m year 11 and the whole day I was doing colouring in there , but then belshaw also tells us now is a critical time for us?
I also got suspended not long ago for being in the toilet having a wee on my lunch break, some girls had left a vape on the bathroom sinks and everyone who was in the toilets (about 8 of us) all got suspended, even though they found nothing on us when they did a search.
Belshaw is meant to be teaching history but no he’s to busy to be teaching us so we have subs. I am not surprised all the good teachers left , the school is a shitshow and shouldn’t be put under the pressure.
Belshaw walks around like everyone should treat him with respect and so do most of the new teachers but they give no rescpect to you , one called a student dumb to her face , that’s nice when she has exams in 3 months time?
they expect respect but show us none , I was taught respect goes both ways and that’s why everyone is a “troubled” kid but they have no respect for us so obviously we are not going to have respect for them .
don’t send you children here and I would just take them out now if they are still there at the moment. The toilets are always locked and the disabled toilet is open on the rare occasion but is so unhygienic, the school is like a prison

Awful school

This is probably the worst schools I've ever come across. These teachers are in denial how the school is run . Racism is ok as long as you deny you said anything. Bullies get protection. You cant drink ,go to the toilet, if you're desperate to go you could get a detention for arguing you really need to. Never seen so many teachers leave after the new headmaster started . If the teacher like to punish so freely and not understand it's a school with kids in it then they should change jobs and be a prison warden as they dont understand this level of low life punishment does not inspire kids to even want to do well

This school is just beyond help, Mr Belshaw is a racist bully who speaks to kids like rubbish, they lock the toilets and forget to unlock them so children wet themselves. He says kids are unruly and bullies but he is the only bully in that school. He thinks he's great because he grew up in Nottingham the rough part as he puts it just to try and look cool to the kids. 36 members of staff quit and he says there are no problems. He doesn't communicate with parents at all he just hides in his office and sends his lapdogs to do all the work. Mrs Williams is just as bad she's like a pet to him and allows him to speak bad of the kids. He suspends and excludes black kids for the smallest things, but white kids who fight get suspended for a day or 2. I wouldn't send your kids here they will be suicidal by the end of their first year like both of mine

Awful sad and scary times

Mr Belshaw has totally ruined this school.
With his extreme rule’s.
God know’s how many have been expelled, constant suspensions, refocus time, for the most petty reason’s. Dropping paper, keeping coat on, when it’s cold as no heating, yet Teacher’s all layered up.
Toilets locked and only some open, leaving the kids with less time, for break, unable to get lunch in cafe, as it’s busy, then with so few toilets open, no time to go. If kids ask to go when in lesson, they get refused, if the keep asking, they get sent to refocus… So kids now not wanting to eat or drink, for fear of consequences.
Children being humiliated in from of class, as teacher’s now, will not listen to our children, and reprimand them.
Lessons are robotic as on a timer, kids unable to ask anything, so not learning, if the miss something.
Outside had been fenced so now looks like a prison camp.
Children's mental health has been severely impacted and some have been suicidal as a result……
Knock on affect then to parents mental health, having to constantly call school to get answer’s.
Detentions are given out like sweets, for petty thing's.
When you get a notification it say's, your child…….. I have 2 kids in the school…….
No medical room or staff now. Kids go to library, they don’t inform you, that your child is feeling unwell. Unless the child has phone to message you won’t know.
Mr Belshaw has a naughty list, A NAUGHTY LIST how degrading for the students.
There is no SEN now, so these students are suffering far more, with no help or support what so ever.
It isn’t a school anymore, it’s more like a prison camp.
He has no regard for anyone’s mental well-being.
Nearly all original Teachers have gone, which is a red flag in its self.
Our children are being suppressed as not allowed a voice or opinion. This is mental abuse.
It’s demoralising, inhumane sadistic and extremely harmful

Waseley school review from student

Absolutely awful how the teachers get to treat all the kids with additional needs is outrageous and they have no care what’s so ever and never listens to the children. If the teachers want respect from me well when they treat me with respect then they will get it from me instead of targeting me with needs, also quick enough to suspend but not quick enough to help when needed!!!!

This school is beyond a joke.

I have a whole load of problems. I'll start with the food situation. The chicken is always raw, and the prices are uncalled for. Free school meals are barely allowed anything, not even water. "The school provides free water , so bring a water bottle." They also hand you a "pudding" if you are free school meals, no matter if you don't want/like or are allergic to. The food is restricted as prices are through the roof. Next is Teachers, 38 and counting good Teachers have left because of this new headmaster. This man is a narcissistic dictator. Students aren't pupils to him, we are figurs on his good record. Parents and students aren't happy, I know of countless people who have so many problems with this new school and the new rules. Teachers are ignoring parent requests such as detention consent, health care plans and numerous phone calls of what children need/are allowed. Students are ignored and aren't treated with respect. Teachers give unreasonable punishments for "back chat" yet they lack basic respect themselves. The bullying is taken so lightly as if its an inconvenience and teaches can't be bothered with it. Students experience bullying and discrimination from there peers. Racism, homophobia and straight up rudeness everyday with no support from the staff. Student support center (ssc) has been closed with lack of support staff yet they do nothing to get this staff back. The autism base has been closed so the special needs students have lost all there support. Me as a student, I feel as if this school won't even try with the mental and physical health of students and even teachers. Me personally, my mental health has dropped since Mr Belshaw has been our new headmaster. The detention and refocus policy isn't helpful, if anything it is making our school worse. You are sent to refocus for dropping things, missing undeserved detentions, not completing homework and many other pointless things that isolation isn't an appropriate punishment. Teachers hand out negative points like there's no tomorrow and hand out positive points once a blue moon. They have no organisation. People get given detentions and refocus against the "policies " in place. The punishment rules aren't listened to and are just there for display. The teachers being hired with either no control or experience whatsoever or are highly strict and make lessons unbearable. It's been about a month and school feels empty with how many students being suspended and/or expelled with no good reason.

This school is out of hand, I wouldn't recommend this hell hole to anyone.

This school should be closed

As a student at this school, I find it appalling how they handle the students and bullying. I know most people don't like school but people here have a valid reason to dislike it. Fights happen on school grounds almost every day, students make fun of other students for anything about them, they don't do anything about homophobic or rasict comments kids are just rude and disrespectful to everyone. Inside of the classrooms is chaos since most teachers are leaving or are not at school so most classes are lead by substitutes that don't know what to do with the class, students get sent to re-focus (isolation) for dropping a pen and not asking to get out of your seat, and on the rare occasion the actual teacher is in school they give you a sheet of paper with work on and expect you to know it even though the substitutes never taught the class the work they were supposed to teach them. I also know of people that have been taken out of this school or are being taken out currently because waseley doesn't have the staff/supplies to care to their needs. The autism base, that is for anyone with special needs has been closed from lack of staff, so the children that need the base are not allowed to go in there causing even more distress in the school. Next, they suspend people for the most stupid reasons, there has been 4 people in my set that have already left, and 3 that have been permanently expelled, and it's only the start of the school year. The current head teacher has put in ridiculous rules, some of them being that we cant wear our coats/jackets inside of school buildings, it doesnt matter about the weather, and if you are caught wearing it inside you get a 10-30 minute detention. We have only 3 minutes to get to each lesson even though it takes three minutes to get from one side of the school to about half way to the other side, so if a student had science and then ICT or PE, you would get a late mark and detention. Also, they have no student support areas for any students to go to If any bullying is happening. They say to go to the head of year but from my personal experience and multiple other peoples experiences that they have told me about they don't do anything, all they do is bring you into a room with the person you are having problems with and say that they bet that you both will be friends by a certain date, which I find ridiculous and unprofessional. The medical at waseley barely even exists and they dont listen to students when they say they are ill. As someone with an actual diagnosed medical problem and has a health care plan, I have noticed how they don't care about what the child says and just snaps at them to go back to lesson. They never listen to health care plans or your child if they day they are sick, I can understand how some children can fake it just to go home but when it comes to people that are obviously ill, really feel bad or kids with health care plans, we should be listened too. This same thing happened to me 2 weeks ago, so I can say this is still happening and it should be stopped, since it is causing distress to even more students. There is only one place that medical is available and that is the library but even then the librarian is never there so kids have to suffer if they aren't feeling well. Moving on to the cafeteria, it is tiny for the amount of students they put in there. It is REALLY expensive also. It is almost 4 pounds for a burger! There isn't enough tables or chairs for the students so people are stuck standing and getting told off for not sitting down even though there isn't anywhere to sit. Students that get free school meals are only allowed 2 things, a main course and a desert or a drink depending on the item. If you get something like the pasta, you can only get a dessert and not a drink. So if you send your child here ALWAYS remind them to bring their water bottle just in case. Year 7s, 8s and 9s all go into the cafe together but at different times, but all year groups stay in there so by the time the year 9s get in most food is gone and all the seats are took up which I find unfair. The food there is bad, I have had meals where the chicken is pink inside, which is an obvious health hazard. Thankfully one of the ridiculous rules has been slightly altered, since parents were complaining, the rule was that students couldn't eat or drink outside or anywhere other than the cafeteria. This rule has been changed so people can drink outside but I find it stupid that this rule ever existed in the first place. The head teacher says school is for learning and not for socializing, even though one of the main parts of good mental health if having people to hang around with so you won't feel alone.
As a year 9 student I would never reccomend this school to anyone, and if you decide to put your child into this school be ready for your child to come home to a lot of problems in the future.

A real bad school

This school is really really bad they only care about uniforms and say we cant wear our own clothes because some people can’t afford it but the uniform is about 75/100 pounds and plus we have to have our sock colour they care about as well most of the teachers shout when theyre not aloud to they dont care about mental health at all there is about 1 or 2 teachers that actually do there job properly the head teacher is also a big flop and bullying is not a problem to them they only get put in isolation for a day or two and i got pit in isolation for playing with a figget toy when i was aloud the toilet’s are locked at the end of the day and at break and lunch and we cant sit anywhere in the cafeteria the year nines get only get 15 minutes in the cafeteria while the year 7 & 8 get 40/30 minutes in the cafè and not going out so there isnt any space for the year 9 and the que is really long and the prices are appalling £1.00 for a mini drink and £2.00 for a ham sandwich the fights that happen at school they dont do nothing my friend was put in a wheel chair because of a fight and school didnt do anything isolation isnt really a place thats good my comfort teacher was a isolation teacher and i sat in there for a bit with him and it was the worst everyone talked it wasnt a really a place to like calm you down also the play ground is the worst people thow bricks and things get vandals and people text there parents just to get them out of school because of how bad the school is i hope when the new generation gets a better school

The horrible experience I had in waseley >:(

My cousin was sexually harassed in the first few months of year 7, and the school did nothing about it just because the 2 kids were autistic. There’s a bunch of shady people hanging around there and weed was in the bathrooms, my mate has sexually harassed aswell and all the little shit got was lego therapy, the school has noncey teachers and shitty students, I would rather be home schooled my my down syndrome mother.

It could use some work.

Honestly, bullying is a really big problem in this school. Teachers barely do anything about racist and homophobic comments that often get thrown around class.
As a student myself, I can for sure say that they’re very strict with uniform and such, especially this year. They definitely act as if everyone can afford the uniform they ask you to get.

My first years of this school were rough, and I only started receiving proper help toward the end of year 10. If your child is going through mental health issues or is just suffering in general with everything, I don’t believe this school is the right one of them. The kids can be really cruel here and the best thing the teachers do about it is send the students out and put them in detention unless it’s a “serious matter” or something.
Despite all of this, I do find myself enjoying being at this school. It’s just very suffocating sometimes because of the students and the lack of discipline, along with the lack of representation of LGBTQI+ Topics in history and other lessons. Many other issues.

The education however it great, minus the lack of representation. Teachers are easy to get along with and talk to which I find is always great. :)

I have made tons of good memories at this school, and met lots of people who I now call my best friends which I’m so happy to have. However I’d rather tell the truth on how it is instead of sugar coating it.

Mental well being

I would say it isn’t that good of a school because they say they promote diversity in the school yet they have a very strict uniform policy and this makes you look like everyone else this isn’t an example of diversity. You carnt dye your hair un-natural hair colours and there’s specific hair styles you carnt have. It has been proven to help people confidence when they dye their hair and then school say there not aloud to dye there hair when they say that they care about mental well-being.

Send your kids at your own risk.

Currently in this school and the way they handle bullying, fights and behaviour is shocking the way they sort out bullying is put the bully in isolation for the day and they think it will sort it out even if they keep doing it they wont take any further action. When it comes to fights they get the both of them to say sorry to eachother and call it a day😐 like that's gonna sort it. Couple good teachers but there are few who have called me "worthless", "you should go to a special school" and "fat" multiple times. Send your kids at your own risk heard its turning into an academy soon so hoping that'll change the school for the best Safe.

The school can be nice. However it’s horrible with mental health and bullying prevention. It’s allowed bullying and only brushed it under the rug and not tried to prevent it. don’t bother

My time at this school was traumatic to say the least, I was bullied by other students in front of teachers who would ignore it and not say a word. The school dealing with social anxiety and other mental health issues was extremely poor and I know from people at the school that it hasn’t changed since. I was shouted at multiple times during panic attacks caused by teachers, the teachers were more focused on discipline than actually teaching us work. I would not recommend my worst enemy to enroll there child at this appalling place. Would give 0 stars if I could
