horrible school

some teachers at this school shouldn’t work with children. they shout at students telling them they should “shut up” and just have a complete lack of respect for those they are teaching and expect to be respected even after acting like that. also, some members of the safeguarding team make students uncomfortable by constantly staring at girls in particular (probably boys aswell) saying “your skirt is too short” and “your
trousers are too tight” usually when looking at their back sides.

problems need to be addressed

teachers here, especially the SLT are way too controlling. they care more about girls having short skirts than actual problems that occur. education should always come first but that’s not the case in this school. many people have said that they feel uncomfortable with how certain staff members act and lots of people have felt this way for years and nothing has been done.

WOODKIRK ACADEMY SUMMED UP

OK,
Woodkirk summarised as an Ex student in terms of quality of the departments that teach gcse, i post this here as i cannot review the main school but same teachers teach sixth form,

maths- ok
english- good

science- good

geography- teaching is ok, but when you have mixed ability sets where you have students who come to school to mess around, the weak teachers do not do anything and the foolish students who mess about controls the class, so you dont learn much and distracted by fools.
for future students studying either geo or history,
woodkirk needs to abolish mixed ability sets

computer science- teachers pretend to teach,
students pretend to learn
did not get taught the GCSE properly,
few weeks before our coding gcse paper,
where we did not get taught properly how to code
(the teacher expected us to know how to code though most people struggled)
advised us to use youtube to learn, essentially going against the purpose of school- to teach.
so people went into the exam barely knowing how to code, so thats about half of the marks lost,
i would advise you to not choose Computer science for gcse or alevel unless you can teach yourself at home or if you want to fail

extra- food-
many students rely on school food as their main meal a day essentially relying on the school food to have an abundance in nutrition,
but when the school food is as cheap, plastic-like, non-nutritious, students will lose fundamental nutrition affecting growth and cognitive functioning,
and the food is heavily overpriced for its cheap worthless quality.

The WORST school to ever EXIST

This school is the worst thing that has ever happened to my life so far. This school has ruined my mental health, to which i’m still suffering with now.

There was an incident when I was in year 8 where another student (from another school) was pressuring me to send revealing photos of myself and proceeded to verbally abuse me when I refused. I was advised to talk to my school about it, and when I did, I was simply told it was my fault by the head I discussed this with, and from surrounding staff members who had overheard the incident, and shouldn’t have accepted the friend request (baring in mind the individual had sent me a friend request months before the incident, and could still message me even if we weren’t friends online). That one statement still plagues my mind to this day and I find it funny how surrounding staff who had nothing to do with the incident got involved just to tell me that it was my fault someone tried pressuring me to send photos of myself.

Another thing I would like to add is how Woodkirk Academy deals with arising issues. One teacher told me these words exactly: “Now if we look at your records, you’ve had previous issues and dealings, but if we look at (….)’s records, they are SQUEAKY CLEAN, so you can now understand why we have pulled you in and not her”. Let’s just focus on the point my “previous dealings” were in year 9, this was year 11, when I had matured and changed as a person. I felt they were personally targeting me with this and felt insulted they were judging me based on my past.

This isn’t the only issues i’ve had with them. They never helped when I was getting bullied, I was told that “they were just being silly, and to ignore them” (even when they threatened to beat me up and to kill my animals) and when I came with an issue myself and came in with PROOF of who was doing the incident, they ignored this and sided with the pupil, again because they were “well behaved and had a clean record”

I would also like to add that this school’s food was terrible. I had multiple issues at dinner time, including finding a dead fly in my pasta along with having undercooked chicken and even being told I wasn’t allowed to buy certain foods, to which I was left with nothing but a small drink. When I came to them about my eating issues, they implied that I was lying which I personally find disgusting. They then started questioning me on why I started bringing my own food in, and even wanted proof that I had packed myself a sandwich.

The way Woodkirk handles issues and situations is appalling, they constantly single out students due to their past and quite frankly don’t care about anyone but themselves.

Oh, and can I add that myself and many others have experienced sexual assault and harassment at this school multiple times. When I alerted the head of year of my experience with this, they hardly did anything to find who had touched me inappropriately and dismissed the incident pretty quickly.

The only good thing I can say about this school is the education. The teachers were very kind and approachable and did their jobs spectacularly. I wish I could say the same for the higher staff.

Moral of the story, save your kid the trauma and send them somewhere else.
