other students don’t seem to understand the concept of leaving people alone - constantly called fat to the point i started starving myself even though i wasn’t overweight. need to learn that “anti bullying” assemblies are not enough. education quality okay, some teachers are great, others distinctly average with a few assholes. as long as you can fend for yourself, come here; otherwise i can’t recommend as the other kids here are brutal.
The majority of the teachers are lovely, they help you with your work whenever you're stuck and make learning fun and classes enjoyable. Students can be respectful and nice from time to time.
However, there is a significant amount of rude and inappropriate students. The bullying isn't dealt very well. And student services only deal with certain students who have problems.
Ad someone who goes to the school, it sucks. So many kids are racist, homophobic etc and he teachers really don't seem to care, the mental health support is awful, and the favoritism is insane. I know one kid who got run over by another kid in a wheelchair (basically crushing his foot and making him barley able to walk for a whole day) and then the kid who got run over got punished because "he deliberately got in the kid in the wheelchairs way"
Went there in the 80's. Sounds like little has changed for the millennial students. My 5 years mandatory time 11-16 at the school was hell, a daily mental struggle with passive aggressive bullies and teachers. Got a detention in my first week, for sitting in the (wrong place) in the playground, THANKS "MUSIC TEACHER" Mr. Shepherd. And made to stand in front of the entire year at assembly, where my detention was announced to the throng. Tried to keep my head down and power through with no help or recognition of my struggling. Education wise, well i didn't receive one basically, with maths class literally being like something from grange hill or St. trinians, utter chaos and screaming insanity from an unruly class of moronic chavs, this situation was never addressed, even though other classrooms if not the entire corridor must have heard the total screaming chaos going on, with the teacher, i forget her name, entirely unable to bring order to the class. I just wanted to learn some maths, as due to undiagnosed waking epilepsy, in my primary years, preventing me from really grasping it ...0 out of 10....
i was scared to wear a hijab as i always felt it was aagainst school rules however the teachers in general r friendly but donnnt understand when s1 actually needs time out n punish to easily.
I have never been so disappointed in a school. The learning environment is absolutely disgusting. The only care here is about the education of the children, however there’s nothing when it comes to their mental health and needs. They’re only proud when you meet their expectations and expect you to do perfectly in every subject you do.
For parents wanting to send your children here please think otherwise.
I use to attend Amery and all I can say it was the worst time of my life, they have no care for how the students are feeling; it’s all grades, perfect uniform and attendance. Bullying is never dealt with properly, you are shoved into a room with your bully and made to talk out your feelings (this only ever makes it worse).
I was bullied from year 7 up until year 11, I tried committing on multiple accusations… and guess what nothing was done about it! I was told I was just hormonal due to being a teenage girl 🙄
I was badgered daily when i wouldn’t come into school, being told the police would get involved because of my attendance but the school knew the situation I was in regarding my mental health.
Bullying can have long term affects, those thoughts of not being good enough, skinny enough, pretty enough never go away. Now I’m paying the price for something the school could of been better with, anxiety and depression aren’t just low moods; but this school fails severely to recognise that.
The only good teachers at Amery were pretzel, mulligan, carrack, unlike the others they don’t suck the life out of you and they don’t make you feel worthless
i went here for won day anf the teacher told me to get undressed and then molested me gently in his office before jerking me off until my penis swole up
amery is so bad at everything . all the teachers except the odd one or two are horrible to students and don’t support them if they are struggling academically or mentally. they never handle a situation appropriately and mainly focuses on the ‘bad’ students who skive. and when they do they treat them to a different level of kindness but the people who struggle with bullying and learning disabilities/ mental health they don’t help at all.
the food here is crap and not worth the money it is all junk with the odd peice of mouldy fruit in a basket.
the toilet conditions are terrible (girls point of view) you would find used sanitary pads on the floor , graffiti talking about wanting to die , ketchup on the toilet seat, poor care when it comes to cleaning .
the boys toilets are always needing to be fixed due to students.
if you look around in certain places you can find mould on the walls and damp walls / ceilings , rugged carpet, dead birds and fish eyes in the lockers .
defiantly would not recommend my experience here has been horrible, they would never and still don’t help with my experience with bullying / hate criminging .
year 10 student - 2022
would not recommend at all, don’t give proper support to people with mental health or learning disabilities. half the teachers don’t even like the school and it’s views. Complete lies when it says it tackles any sort of prejudice.
This school is ok but is bad at handling situations and isn’t great at solving issues and some teachers can be extremely rude and think respect doesn’t work both ways however you get the odd teacher that’s great and others that really are the complete opposite
Pretty great school and the staff really work to help you with any issues you might have. some people have mentioned bullying but i don’t really see it around school and there are never any fights or anything so pretty safe environment
It is very bad the teachers do not care about the students well being at all. They may say they do but really they only care about grades. They gave a student voice system to get used from pupils but when the team gave and idea that most of the student agreed with the staff were dissappointed and told them off. Also they are so incredibly strict with uniform. Like too strict
throughout my time at this school my mental health has plummeted, through loss of friends and just struggling with the learning, the only support actually available is student services and half the time the advice doesn’t help but either way they just walk you to your lesson and you’re expected to just deal with it.full of rude nasty girls who make my life a living hell.they care more about the uniform then anything else.
When homophobia was an issue for me and my friends we reported it and the tea her said, you can't blame them for having differnt beliefs!mental health support isn't the best and English isn't put in sets so you have to deal with people who can barley read.
the school is bad at dealing with mental health and listening to students and they only care about the smarter kids who get high grades if you get low grades then they most likely wont care about you. they also dont deal with bullying if you reataliate then your gonna be the one in trouble
Really crap school. They can't handle bullying to save their arses, half the teachers are nonce I swear, only a few good and really nice teachers, the rest of them are *****. Still better than Eggars and Alton School, though.
They don’t do shit when someone is getting bullied. The teacher didn’t even stop it when someone says a bunch of slurs only when the other person gets pissed.
Too many homophobe/transphobes and the school does barely anything about it. Apart from maybe have an assembly about why it’s bad. Also uniform is hello old fashioned (dress code that is). Like how is two piercings in my ear distracting and informal.????
absolutely horrible. this school doesn't care about my child's mental health enough to punish her bullies. I though the tolerance of racism was left in the 60s but apparantly I was wrong
