Racist school

There is a racist incident being excused by the head of years when an arabic boy was harassed by a white boy saying things such as “do you have a bomb in your bag” and “where is your camel”. The arabic boy warned him but then the white boy said, “oh yeah well your mums a b*tch”. The arabic boy hit him and it ended in a fight (he won & the white boy was left unconscious). The Arabic boy got suspended for 5 days and the white boy was excused for his racism “because he has adhd” and was left punishment free. Not the first major incident with that boy, hes been sexist, stalkerish, racist, islamophobic- time & time again with no consequences

They only care about test scores.

Archbishop holgates. The school where you are defined by your grade. If you get a bad mark then you weren't listening.
Also, a lot of the students are homophobic. It's okay until you're a gay person that looks or acts a bit different. The pressure they pit on students is horrendous and they do nothing about mental health.

the school is great

a view of this school.

The school is amazing; you can get very high and outstanding grades but they don’t help with mental health or bullying. As how they show only small powerpoints with no help; more with bullying you get token out of lessons for chats with head of year or deputy head of years or im reflection; I wish they could do more with it as it’s so upsetting how much people i see being bullied and taken the mic out of as of mental health is horrible. but most of all the food is great mostly, and how much teachers but into school for students.

Good results, bad everything else.

"The results speak for themselves!" Sure, but not the mental health of the students, bullying and restrictive rules. They show little to no effort at all in improving mental health, lgbt issues as well as other social issues, aside from the occasional short powerpoint, where nothing is really taught as well as bullying, which in my experience, had very little, if any change at all. Sure, the results are good, but does that matter if it isn't enjoyable?

Very good but a lot of points where it can improve

On the one hand they do get very good grades and help you to stay organised and keep on top of work. However they allow you no freedom to explore a subject freely or find how to actually enjoy learning. A lot of schools are like this but I would just like to say that people are more likely to do well in the future if interest in a subject can be allowed to grow rather than simply spoon feeding information to pass a test.

They're mental health support is a lot better than most schools but only once there is a major problem and even then there is quite a waiting list. It would be nice to be taught about things like self harm replacements, body dismorphia, dealing with anxiety, coping strategies and how to help a friend who is struggling. I wouldn't go as far as to blame this on the school as it is heavily ingrained in our society, the NHS for example doesn't support people with eating disorders unless you are under a certain weight by which point it is much harder to recover, but giving a help line numbers isnt enough. Furthermore younger years need to be better educated on how to look after their mental health so problems can be prevented in the future. Teachers need to realise that people who don't do work on class or mess about often have mental health issues like depression.

On handling bullying, telling a the bullier off is not enough, if anything it makes things worse. The victim should be checked up on as they're mental health is often severely affected. I also think teachers need to be taught better on how to spot and deal with it as I have know people to be verbally bullied while the teacher was watching watching.

No so good

They don't really care except the head teacher and a few of the slt and some of the teachers need to loosen up on the students as some will be struggling due to covid and they're putting to much pressure on kids

Overall

It's pretty good, especially for getting high grades. They do make efforts in spreading equality but hardly any support for mental health or to stop bullying other than PowerPoints. The main focus is keeping high grades for everyone so there's a high work load and some extra support.

Good results, bad mental health

Archies is a great school in terms of results. The teachers are brilliant at getting the best from the kids. However, they have practically no mental health support, which is unfortunate, especially considering the high standard they expect their students to perform at. The teachers are lovely and there are enough nice students to have an enjoyable time. If they added any form of mental health support, they would do much better

Fantastic

Archbishops is a fantastic school. This is exemplified through it’s outcomes. Whilst they do work you hard that is absolutely essential in producing the best version of yourself and giving you the most options possible when you leave. The relationships you build with the teachers and form tutors is fantastic and creates a real community feel about the school.

Average

The teachers are good but some of them need to loosen up a bit- very strict and quite perpetually controlling. Too much stress put on in students for homework to be done when they give us too much as it takes up all our free time to be happy. Starts too early.
