Shitttttt

Actually such a shit school, loved going to to fuck about that’s all it was good for, pretty much all teachers were ignorant Hippocrates students couldn’t give a fuck about anythubg cause none of the teachers tried hard enough to understand any of what students were going through.

Awful

School used to be alright and care about the students, I’m in year 11 now, there’s a new vice principle and she posts publicly on twitter that teachers shouldn’t meet the needs of their students. This is a bare minimum of every school and especially Atlantic Academy because it was aimed at SEND needs. She should not be teaching or working with children at all, morals are completely wrong. Due to change of rules, students are treated like prisoners, standing in lines silently and being checked up and down.

Terrible experience here…

This school seems to confuse fear and obedience with education..
When looking at the school for my child it was all ‘children come first’ and ‘positive and natural learning experiences’ but hearing from my child and other students, it is anything but.

Teachers yelling constantly at the smallest things, the children cannot laugh or look away from the teacher for a moment without being penalised. One time my child got a warning because they were writing the date and the teacher wanted their full attention.

The students are not allowed to leave class for any reason other than a medical emergency. This apparently does not include panic attacks/autistic meltdowns.
If a child needed the loo in class due to a period flow issue, they’d have to state that to a (possibly male) teacher and ask for /permission/?? How demeaning.

It is a huge red flag for me that they are crushing students’ bodily autonomy.

I asked for a meeting to discuss our issues and during the meeting got nothing but avoidance and answers you’d expect from a politician, with no wish to address the issues at hand.

This school is also extremely ableist and will be traumatic for any neurodiverse child.

My child also stated ‘it’s clear even the teachers aren’t happy.’
A depressing example of the educational system caring more about squeezing out cooperative factory workers, rather than bright young people with initiative and excitement to learn.
After a year we moved my child and they are now thriving.

I’d like to note there are one or two exceptional teachers who clearly care about students’ mental health. But the majority of the staff, especially those pulling any strings, only care that they shut up, sit down and behave.

// If you’re in a position where your child has to attend a school like this and you don’t have other options (which is perfectly valid and real situation for many parents) then I hope you can be extremely vocal and point out to the school how and where they are failing our children. Lest the new generations lose their love of learning because all of it is incentivised through fear. //

Bad school init

the school looks bare nice but some of the teachers hold grudges styll, the new rules are bare shit. if you don't do your homework the consequences are shite. Catchup is a waste of time and if you skip you have slt, in slt all you do is sit in the reflection room, so even more time wasted

I hate the school

I hate this school especially when u get made to take your feet out In gymnastics DISGUSTING!
And the classrooms do not have walls. U are not allowed plain black boots or plain black trainers. And the new rules are rubbish and I don’t understand why we need to have them I know it is for our education but I do not get why we can’t even have a pen in our hand when the teacher is talking. I think it is STUPID that the reflections are 2h and 15m long or sometimes they are 2h and 45m long and u are not allowed your phone out at all not even at brake and lunch. And I can’t even think to believe u are not allowed to where painted nails and u get make to take them off and wasting ur education. And bullying doesn’t get taken care off. You are not allowed legging because apparently they are to tight so apparently they are inappropriate.

Does this school benefit staff or children ?

A strange take on education, children excluded from lessons for little or no reason giving teachers an easy time ,work missed never made up. Homework rarely given ,not always marked ,how sad for children hoping to build a future on the results of their education.

Absolutely disgraceful school. Bullying is not dealt with. Senco has no clue and no empathy. Whole place should be shut down.

The ball is in the Atlantic leadership’s court

When the old Route 39 Academy got took over by the Launceston MAT (linked with Bideford College), the standards and the whole ethos changed. This was probably imagined to be set for a good change but instead turned for the worse. The student numbers are rising slowly but it seems the influx is coming all the way from Bideford, sometimes students with behavioural problems from East-The-Water who have been referred from other schools like bideford college for example adding to the lowered standards, and not the surrounding rural area which it is supposed to serve.
Another bad point is that compared to the last two heads at Route 39, the current headteacher at Atlantic has done a bad job at not actively leading the academy as she doesn’t turn up to lead the assemblies, nor takes an active role talking and getting to know her students or monitoring at lunchtimes but instead leaves it up to bad newly appointed teachers to take leading roles on the very divided SLT board.
The only good thing about Atlantic was the fact that the older teachers from Route 39 the the schools values with them as it was transitioning to Atlantic, who still kept their friendliness and their desire to get to know their students and also their perseverance and their proactiveness towards that especially hard time transitioning which I want to congratulate them on.
Only time will tell how Atlantic Academy develops into a secondary school and the way it wants to be lead.
