I currently go to this school and I have to say it’s worse than I expected when I passed the test. Pastoral care is severely lacking and I feel like I have nobody to speak to. Due to the ofsted report, school has been massively exaggerating ‘BRGS values’ which honestly just makes us miserable. The only good thing about it is a few of the teachers. French has been cancelled as a gcse option for year 8, even after learning it for 2 years (meaning that everybody is forced to take german) and nothing is done about mental health. Grades are prioritised over us and it’s not fair.
I would not recommend this school. The issues raised in the appalling Ofsted report remain and they are no better at dealing with problems such as bullying. SEND is terrible and pastoral care is lacking. There has been an investment in this area, so time will tell whether it works, but it will take a lot to overcome the issues as many of the teachers blame the pupils for the ofsted report. My child is much happier since I removed them from this school.
2/10 - would not recommend to anyone. Pls don't do it.
Let me tell you now, they really only care about your grades or how sporty you are. Mental health? The hell is that? I was having issues with my abusive dad at the time (still am lol) and told someone working in the pastoral care, and they thought it was a good idea to call. my. dad. The one who mentally/sometimes physically abuses me and my siblings. THEY REALLY SAID "HM YES, LET'S GIVE HIM A RING". And don't get me started about how they deal with bullying, it's BAD. I was bullied for the time I was there and absolutely fuck all had been done about it, despite multiple reports. Took a physical fight to get them to listen to me, and the only reason why they did was because a science teacher defended me (God bless, she was great). Though I left in 2018/2019, I've been told that there have been multiple cases of people trying to commit suicide on the grounds because of the stress caused by the school. Like, year 8s are trying to throw themselves off of the scaffolding to end it all. Honestly, fuck you Alan (head teacher of the time), go and invest all the money in more fucking corridors you tighty whitey boomer
Lovely school however it is an environment that is unusual compared to the norm. In my eyes, if I’d have attended a ‘normal’ comp high school I would’ve done so much better; and would’ve felt better about myself.
You’re made to feel bad about getting anything less than 7’s at GCSE and some of us can’t keep afloat in the fast moving curriculum and that’s not our fault, not everyone learns at the speed of light. Support classes are looked upon as ‘failure classes’ if you will.
There’s a severe lack of pastoral resources / care, which is down to the lack of funding placed within that area of the school. The team are lovely, but there’s just not enough available for the amount of students potentially affected by the harsh learning environment.
