Bad environment

Absolutely disgusting place, I was going through some rough times at home and all the support i received was shouting and punishment for not turning up, they care more about grades than students wellbeing. A few teachers even make you feel uncomfortable, my form tutor makes frequent sexual advances towards girls and he is never stopped from doing so.

Horrible place

Absolutely disgusting place, was going through some rough stuff at home and all school did was yell at and punish me for not turning up. They care way more about grades and statistics than the wellbeing of their students, a few teachers even made me feel unsafe as my form tutor makes constant sexual advances towards the girls.

It could be worse, or it could be a whole lot better

They seem to care more about the uniform then they do their students. It comes across as they care more about their appearance to people outside the school then the students they spend time with. They enforce out-dated dress code rules, for example 6th form girls can't show their shoulders. It's difficult to get help when you need it unless you're a top grade student. The rules are becoming more ridiculous by the term. They don't often give out punishment to those who clearly deserve it, for example for hurtful comments. On the bright side are are a fair few teachers who do interest people in learning.

My fave place😌

I am going to be honest and say this from a personal perspective of my experience at this school, I have been there for a few years now and academically this school is relatively good. Most of the teachers here are hard working and will try their best to support you and notice if you are lagging behind, some will intervene others will punish you for it.
Mental health support wise, rather bad.
We don’t get that much bullying here but a lot goes unnoticed, at most they have to write a statement, get isolation or are just told off a lot goes on off the record.
The building named “alps” which deals with mostly behaviour issues and is there to support students only really cares about younger years and people with non complex issues. For the older years we are seen more as a problem as a lot of people may be there due to on calls or incidents.
A lot of people in school need some form of help but heads of year and student support like psw are all ready busy which makes it difficult for new cases to even be considered for help. A lot of staff don’t even get round to dealing with people and situations as they are already swarmed with other things.
Some people consider “alps” a busy unwelcoming environment due to the amount of people in there from different year groups for different reasons, others will agree with me that It’s ludicrous to have the building designated to people with behaviour concerns and then others struggling to be in the same environment as going to alps can be seen as a punishment when it’s supposed to be a safe space for people struggling who may need additional support.
Students don’t often get an opportunity to voice their concerns and views, take into account the new uniform. Spoiler alert no one likes it. We are the ones wearing it and we didn’t even get a say? Like surely as the people wearing it we deserve to feel comfortable and not embarrassed.
But all together it’s a great school because all that matters at the end of the day is the results on paper being good right? 😘

Bad emotionally

I guess most of the teachers there are ok but the emotional support is utter garbage. The alps centre is there to help students but last time I went in there I got yelled out of there by an angry lady because the school nurse wouldn’t be in until lunch. The nurse told me I could go into her office for sanitary stuff but I guess they just don’t communicate much there. During covid we had to split the school up into bubbles and we all got given an indoor area to go into but the school favours year 7s so they got our area, we had a tiny bit of space to go into or we could be in the rain

Secondary school experience

decent

I feel the majority of the teachers are really good and the standard of teaching is pretty decent and they seem to want the best for us. Bartholomew have what’s called the “Alps centre” which is basically a building where students can go if they have special needs or if a student is feeling upset and need some additional support whether that is educational or mental well-being. I believe Alps is good in the lower years but not so good for older years as I find some teachers can treat the older students a bit patronisingly for their age. There is barely any bullying and if there is it seems to always be dealt with effectively. The majority of students are polite and thank teachers after being taught which I think is nice and to be fair teachers do lots to help us. There are a good range of after school clubs wether that’s drama, sports or music for example. The new uniform isn’t good though as the teachers seem to want us to look like we attend some posh, rich private school which let’s face it isn’t exactly barts lol. Overall I think the teaching is fairly decent but if you aren’t quite as academic you might need some additional support outside of school. Also Mr provo the supply teacher needs a pay rise and promotion as he is the best teacher.

Great school

They want the best for me, they’d much rather me be mentally ok than get good grades; however, a certain maths teacher doesn’t get it.

I like it here

I was debating on 4 or 5 stars but it’s not perfect so I’ll rate it a four.

The teachers are very friendly in my personal opinion and I believe they want the best for me. I’m not the easiest student I’ll admit but they do try their hardest to help me.

The teaching is good and your child will learn a lot here.

I’m not actually sure about bullying seeing as I haven’t been bullied here so you’ll have to take my review with a pinch of salt however I do believe bullying goes on here. Not sure how the teachers deal with it, I’d have to ask my peers.

Overall, I like it here.
