Racist place

This is a racist establishment. Although the word racist is overused, it is appropriate in this situation. Not many people know this but in 2002-2003 it was known for being a racially segregated school. Local residents know this was true. It speaks to the reputation of the school.

A happy place

Really good. I've been at Childwall for 4 years and I'm on track for grades 6-8 in all my options.
The staff are helpful and aside from one or two big mouth idiots (whose mums have never taught them how to sit down and STFU) the other pupils are a nice bunch.
I do after school clubs and have got involved in loads of careers stuff. Happy to be here.
Work is being done to improve the school and to be honest, it's dead colourful unlike some of the generic " office block " new buildings that are everywhere now.

It’s okay

I mean, as a mixed-gender, multi-lingual, school full of diversity, it’s not the absolute worst. Academics, there are different classes students are put in based on their KS2 performance in primary school (completely strange in my opinion) and it just shows to be a bit silly. In most classes years 7-9 you have the group of about 4-5 gifted, the rest being average, not excelling or falling, and then there will be multiple students (specifically boys) who have no interest in learning and will just disrupt everyone’s class progress, however, in lessons from year 10-11 (once options are decided and people are in set classes) most settle down and with some of the teachers, specifically the english department, you can actually learn quite a decent amount in knowledge. Inside the school is not bad but it definitely needs a re-vamp. There’s a constant joke everyone in the school knows about, being how ‘poor’ it is, and whether it’s a joke may be debatable because it certainly can look true in cases. Space outside the school is quite large, many places to walk and chat on breaks and lunches no complaining really, However on some of the fields there are broken gates where students can get through, where on multiple occasions has happened and has lead to them “escaping school” through the back field. With activities, there are so many clubs it’s quite fair in terms of what you can do. Teachers. English department are all amazing the teachers are genuinely exceptional at what they do, on the other hand with the maths department, the teachers lack the attitude to properly motivate students leading to lessons that become sluggish and boring, therefore making students more prone to burn out and just disrupt the lesson which no one can actually see but the students. Science teachers are decent it just depends on who you have. Geog + History are great too! other options catering, tech etc are very good too. Bullying and equal rights is a bit of a joke will not lie and I am just gonna be informal on this one because honestly so many racist, homophobic etc incidents occur in this school every single day that just go under the radar that teachers certainly notice but simply don’t care enough to assess; the one thing you’ll hear as a student is “We do not as a school tolerate racist or homophobic abuse” when it’s clearly a lie even if you want to believe it the school is horrible at contributing a scheme to tackle this. Also the Culture of the school: Childwall exclaims their love of diversity in how the school has 42 languages (or more) spoken and personally I feel like they’re giving themselves a pat on the back as they don’t really care about anything but the title. Sometimes it feels as though ethnic minorities in the school are seen as a token and not valued as a person just to make the school look more diverse and appealing to people so they can actually stay open by reeling in new pupils at the start of September terms, making parents feel like any issues regarding their child’s skin colour or religion etc would not be a problem with bullying. Overall I would say, the school is not bad, it can most definitely improve with certain aspects discussed but in the long run, as long as you have a built friendship circle, which shouldn’t be hard as there are many really good pupils, you should be fine. Whether to send your child here, I do not know, I think it is worth giving the school a chance and if your child does not like it or something happens just move.
