Inept is the best word i can use to describe Conyers school.
I have 2 children attending the school, in years 9 and 10 and our experience has been very consistent throughout and aligned to the other negative feedback that has been provided on this forum
1: There is a clear bullying culture, which starts at the top with the teachers, who are ill equipt to deal with any student who doesn’t do what they say immediately. Because of this naive and incredibly substandard stance that they have, it naturally creates conflict between staff and students, and subsequently between students and students.
2: The head teacher has no social skills, is openly criticised by his staff. Many of whom have recently left the school due to his failures to support them, and his constant behaviour of hiding behind his deputies, refusing to speak to angry parents. I’ve experienced this first hand, twice.
3: The school openly lied to myself and my wife following an incident whereby my 12 year old was jumped by 6 other children. Their story of events was completely fabricated to protect a teacher who stood and watched everything unfold, doing nothing. This came to light as a fellow student sent us their footage. The headteacher refused to speak to us subsequently.
4: Parents are called during working hours by teachers to address menial and quite ridiculous situations. “Your child has forgotten a Ruler” for instance. Teachers take no responsibility to educate and discipline the children and pass the buck at the earliest opportunity. Please note, we’ve tried to work with the school on this one, however whilst they all have voices, many of the staff appear to not posses ears themselves. I see myself the frustrations the children have
5: They have no ability to manage children other than with a dictatorial nature, therefore Children showing signs of struggle or requiring additional support receive none. They are branded bad and used as scapegoats and made examples of to strike fear into others.
Needless to say i’m very much considering removing my children from this complete joke of a school. Until the teaches grow up and take responsibility for themselves, and learn how to use carrot as well as stick they will continue to have nothing but a bad relationship with their children
Whilst the grades might be good, the environment is appalling.
This school is NOT safe for pupils. There are regular pupil on pupil assaults and beats. Flash mobs roam the school preying on anyone alone, bullying is rife with zero consequences.
SEND provision and support is non existent. Communication is one way, quick to blame pupils for supposed transgressions against teachers and then ask the parents to sort it, but if we ask for a meeting, or more details, we get stonewalled.
Do NOT send your children here, they won't be safe.
The food portions are ridiculous. No where near big enough to fill up kids to be able to concentrate for the last half of the day. Counted 6 chips the other day with my rubber fish. Horrific! #starving
There are many people who get rewards but many great students get left out,
The only people who get recognition from the school are the people who pretend there stupid then do something good it’s a shit schools with lots of bullying
the school tends to push its students too hard for gcse, however the majority of teachers are good, i will mention the older spanish teacher and the psychology teachers need to loosen up a bit as both of their needs for strict rule following makes them seem mean and unlikeable
Had two children go here, first one got on great because she was a model student and she got overlooked by everyone.
Second one having a terrible time. No support from SEN department, answer to everything is punishment and most teachers are bully's who victimise students and antagonise situations to get a reaction. Hold your children in locked rooms with no way out other than to press an alarm which unlocks the doors and then they fine you £5 for the privilege! Some teachers are great but these unfortunately are told to take a back seat I believe when they offer a little too much help! All they care about is ticking boxes to make the school look better than it is. They have zero experience of children with special needs and they suggest moving schools just so they don't need to deal with it! Also make derogatory comments to children. OFSTED need to look into their practices as it seems like a prison not a school!
Moved in year 7 here in 2016, got offered a lot of support from the staff over some issues. however there is A LOT of room for improvement, no actual proper good support from them and they brush it under the carpet.
I had an event with another pupil with homophobia etc and that was brushed under the carpet.
Left this year and don’t miss it at all.
Barely any trips to anything and some horrible teachers.
