Reform is needed

I'm genuinely concerned with the level of violence at the school, the lack of communication & ever changing staff.
There is no communication at all from the school, unless they want to use your child as a cash cow to exhort more money from the local authority.
The school uniform is cheap in quality expensive in price, the logo looks like it belongs to a cult with "serve & obey" as it's motto.
The heating system seems to be constantly glitchy.
I'm quite a positive person by nature but I genuinely can't find anything nice to say about the school ,though there are a few good staff members but as mentioned previously staff retention seems an issue.

Needs alternative measures immediately!

Needs to be put into alternative measures immediately.
Absolutely shocking school! failings in sen, safeguarding ect.
I'm shocked any child can learn in an environment where children are continually attacked in corridors, classrooms. The bullying policy is not worth the paper its wrote on.
Children are simply seen as funding and a number irrigardless of the child's needs... Avoid sending children here if possible!

Apathetic Anti Bullying Policies, Bad School

Secondary School: personally not a bad experience for me after year 10, but before I was bullied, struggled with anxiety etc. Witnessed lots of scumbags who bully year 7s. No one does anything about the bullies. Some perv back in year 10 was caught with non consensual photos of girls, nothing was done and that filthy pervert got away with it. Lots of good teachers, plenty of stupid ones.

6th Form: great so far. Teachers are more engaging and respect you as a young adult. Courses are challenging but not overwhelming, and the free periods and cafe are nice. People are a lot more mature. Would recommend the 6th Form to any parent, but not the school.

Awful school

Simply do not care about anything other than presenting themselves as a good school when in reality it’s awful, i waited years for support with my mental health which i have never received, they priorities students that distrust lessons and provide them with support but don’t care to help others who are in serious need of it, only really care about music and rugby and provide nothing g for the art department, poor supplies, no trips, teach useless things and overall horrible.

My perspective

Not a lot of people get on well and it doesn’t get sorted out

Safeguarding? What’s that?

I hate this school with a passion at this point. The safe-guarding is neglected and i have a few example of very recent times when it has been neglected:

Mental Health problems are just ignored. I went to a trusted teacher to ask for help with self harm which I have been struggling with for a few years now and since i first opened up about me struggling last year, they said they would refer me to all the mental health places they have access to. So when I went to them more recently with my self harm problems, they sent me to a “mental health first aider” who instead of actually helping me asked me if I enjoyed the attention… but said she would refer to the counsellor- WHICH WAS MEANT TO HAPPEN MONTHS AGO- they still haven’t done it, 3 months on after that. The fact this member of staff went through training, and the only thing they asked was if I liked the attention is so completely wrong especially as it took me months to open up about it again.

The second recent incident was not personal to me but affected the people around me more. There were reports that a boy in Year 10 had pictures of lots of girls on his phone ( snapchat: my eyes only) which included huge amounts of revealing photos and even pictures that had been taken when girls were walking up the stairs, to reveal the underneath of their skirt. I’m sure you’re wondering what the school did about it…. nothing, well not to the boy, not once was he isolated and not once was it looked into, the deputy head was informed and took absolutely no action- other than to start pulling aside girls for their skirts in the mornings. 30-40 girls would be pulled aside on their way into school and made to stand outside while everyone else went to class. Not all the girls even had short skirts, they were just pencil skirts, which until then had been fine since they started the academy. The girls would them have to sit through assemblies with the headteacher, which was not only embarrassing for them, but also made them feel terrible because a lot of them couldn’t get new skirts due financial issues and the fact it was nearly the end of the term. Eventually the girls who were being penalised every morning decided to protest it by grouping together, wearing the shortest skirts they could find and pushing their way past members of staff, and after that they dropped it. All the girls understood that skirts should be a certain length to look professional, but it was the end of the year and what triggered it was not right. Girls shouldn’t have been embarrassed by grown adults because of something one boy did that was never sorted out. After talking to other girls in other years too, i found out this was not the first time things of this nature were ignored.

Don’t get me wrong, there are some really caring and amazing teachers here, but they aren’t the ones in position to actually make a change, the SLT are the problem.

Unless your child is an aspiring musician or rugby player, i really wouldn’t recommend this school, as if your child has any problems at all they won’t do anything. I know the school looks amazing from the outside, but it’s just as bad as the rest of them.

GCSEs & A Levels

Secondary no, Sixth form absolutely YES

Contrary to popular opinion I actually loved the food that is served here. The dinner ladies are also super friendly and if they like you then you can nab a free cupcake on your birthday 😉

However. Some of the teachers are absolutely incompetent. Most are lovely and have been so supportive over the years and I truly thank them for it. However it is a little bit of pot luck when it comes to teachers. The PE department is confusing and I’m grateful that the “dance” department got scrapped because that was utterly horrific.

I got bullied quite a bit in year 7-10 and the school does try to help. Key word, try. All of my issues have been resolved but there’s so much more they could have done in hindsight. I was however offered counselling which helped my self esteem.

Some of the teachers can be really condescending which is obviously horrible but you have to learn to suck up to them. I’ve only had a handful of these but they definitely exist.

You couldn’t pay me to re-do my GCSEs. However, I’m currently doing my a levels and it’s absolutely phenomenal. All of the teachers treat you like an adult and you are trusted with a dedicated study area. My year group aren’t the best but the sixth form team are patient and forgiving and seriously take no crap. They won’t hesitate to kick you out. The head of sixth is absolutely lovely and like a human teddy bear - he couldn’t do any harm yet people still respect him. The same goes for the whole sixth form team in my opinion.

This school has undoubtedly changed my life for the better. For secondary school I would give this an average but for sixth form - definitely go here. It’s brilliant.

Important!

Seriously, I’ve just left this academy and if I can recommend anything truly is just don’t go here. They always promote about mental health and not condoning bullying but they rarely do anything to help. I had issues myself and when I asked for help it was overlooked and this kept happening and during these assemblies about mental health most of the students would really scoff because this institution seriously doesn’t care about its pupils as they should. Most of the schools money will go into a selection of studies including Pe and Music while other subjects will have a minimum each month while these courses have trips worth around £600 every term or much more. The rugby lads would even go to South Africa one year just to play rugby. Even the teachers say that it’s unfair and they need more funding to afford basic glue sticks and pens. The rules are truly just too much too I seriously don’t understand how they expect to control everything especially with corona as when I was there which was literally just this year we were meant to walk in one direction but they can’t even control that. The food is just average. Sometimes you often find hairs from the dinner staff or even insects in the food. We even had a case of rats in the canteen this year. Honestly just send your child to another school and get them some good education
