Awful school. They don't care at all about children's mental health. I was a former student here and I self harmed all the way until I left. I felt very suicidal because of how depressed it made me. Shame on you.
as a gay, i found that this school made me homophobic towards myself. if your child is also gay, i would recommend not sending them to this school.
also, highsted caused my long-lasting depression. i can’t provide evidence for this, but trust me. their response to my suicidal thoughts was to give me a few sessions of counselling and then they never checked in on me again. the pandemic was the only thing that prevented me from jumping out of the window from one of the rooms in the school.
the only redeeming quality of this school is its teachers, who are all pretty chill. apart from that, this school is a complete nightmare. if you don’t want your child to potentially become an anxious mess who thinks that a bad grade will kill them, then for the love of god, look somewhere else.
if anyone from highsted is reading this, stop being homophobic and start reaching through that thick skull of yours into your smooth brain to try and find a memory from a time when you considered your students to be people rather than exam machines.
The school doesnt care at all for mental health problems and doesnt even try when kids are self harming or feeling suicidal. You do not get to have bad days because it's a grammar school so you always have to be perfect all of the time. This is bad because kids at this school develop social anxiety over time and regular anxiety from just the stress and frustration alone!
This school is really bad don’t go here they don’t care about people as individuals just the grades they get in exams they will give you so much work that you have no time to do anything else and if you start doing badly and failing your subjects they will blame it on you and say you need to work harder when you are already working as hard as you can. There are lots of good teachers here though the teachers are amazing but the ways that they are told to teach by the school are not.
They only care about the schools ‘100%’ pass rate. The headteacher constantly is promoting having the best grades in Kent. They don’t believe in mental health issues or autism
Pastoral care non existent. School communication is really dire compared to other schools in the area. They seem to be trading purely on an old fashioned ideal of ‘Grammar is best’ when in actual fact the school is badly run and only churns out good results because they don’t care for your child’s mental health - only the schools stats.
They also support bullying and victim blame the bullied.
