Horrid feels like hell does not care about ur mental health just pretends to pays more attention to skirt length and shirt tucked in than anything so much homework 0/10
This school sucks. We hardly have any door locks or toilet seats in out bathrooms. The foods gross. You get BCDs for forgetting p.e kit. They don't care about bullying but have a massive safeguarding system. Thy care about the uniform more than the kids. There's gum everywhere. The uniform is so overpriced. People vape in toilets. But the P.E is ok ig
In my opinion, bullying is not stopped here at ivybridge community collage. Children are constantly feeling upset and lonely ect because of things like bullying that the school does not manage. I get that it is hard for teachers as there are so many students, but it is their responsibility to make the children feel safe and secure and happy. Feeling the upsetness that the children sometimes do, leads to worse education, therefore worse jobs in later life.
This school kinda sucks. A Load of people vape in the toilets, there are usually no toilet seats or locks in the toilets. They give you BCDs if you forget your p.e kit (that's unnecessary). They don't really care about the bullying at this school either. You get told off for being inside eventhough your being quiet and there's no one else around. It smells all the time and theres gum everywhere. I don't recommend
I’ve been bullied several times by the same people.
1/10 don’t recommend u send ur child here
Teachers will lash out at you u for breathing
Fights all the time
don’t go, my daughter went there and she was in year 10 and she had loads of mental health problems from school, and the school didn’t do one thing and she ended up attempting to end her life. but the school insisted for her to go to school and made her do everything as normal had no conversations to her, we ended up moving her school as so disappointed.
Right. Where can I begin. I have been attending ivybridge college for 7 years now, The foods inedible, i would rather eat the radioactive equipment in the science department. SLT all are completely clueless of what they are doing. they claim to help and support us through our entire school career but i have seen no results at all. Swear down that half of the teachers have been kicked out for fiddling and i wake up every morning wishing i lived in a 3rd world country.
All the negative reviews do match with our experience. The school has been very proactive when we have raised queries with them. Teachers are approachable and engaged, and a good range of extra curricular activities. Our children are progressing well and are happy at ICC
If I could give this school a 0 I would. Yes I am a previous student, no this isn’t a bias review. I don’t think this place should be allowed to continue educating kids in the state it is in. UNLESS you do football, netball, rugby or swimming this place is not for you. They favour the sporty kids and if you don’t do sports you are at the bottom of the importance list. I was neglected a bullied by teachers through my schooling. I was terrible with maths but no effort was made to change that and I was STILL put in higher sets where I failed to thrive in every mock exam yet was FORCED to do higher GCSE which I don’t have much hope for in my results. A teacher who has now left used to call on me in my maths lessons every lesson even knowing I didn’t know the answer and know I hated it (I now know I suffer from anxiety which I think was formed around this experience and made it worse) and no matter how much I told him “I don’t know” he would tell me I did know until the whole class sat in silence because I didn’t know and was offered no help other than the boys I was sat with trying to tell me the answer, without getting caught so we could continue. They would often get in trouble for this.
The popular kids are bully the unpopular and because they do sports it’s completely over looked, they’re strict no tolerance bullying policy doesn’t apply to them.
The food is also terrible.
There’s a huge drug and vaping/smoking problem within the school for the underage students specifically and a lack of education on it only punishments like removing bathroom doors so they are open, which never stopped anyone. I could probably list of a handful of names tho at I could get drugs off in my schooling years with ease. Not that I ever did because leaving that place with no ties was my only goal.
I understand there is a uniform for a reason but they go to far with enforcing it. If you can’t afford school shoes they will force you to find a way to get them. The jewelry rule is stupid. They go to far. A invisible nose stud is not distracting my learning and coloured/dyed hair is not distracting anyone else, what is distracting is teachers heels in the exam hall or they’re long fake nails tapping on their desk in the exam.
Someone full on opened a door and screamed into the exam hall when I was doing my media exam and nothing was done about it they all just looked at us like we did it.
Miss Tyrell or whatever her name it panics about all her work and then does none of it.
They fire the favourite who actually help, or so he said “didn’t renew his contract because they found someone better” bollocks I hated the new teacher and have now defiantly failed biology because my grade dropped from a 7-4 when Dr Rainville left and Miss Blee arrived. I loved her but she can’t do her job. It’s the same with Chemistry, sorry Mr stancombe but I learnt fuck all because you just let the football boys mess around all lesson and gave up teaching part way through the year in year 9 and never really started again.
Hutchinson looks like a dorito because all she does is fake tan in her office because she never actually does her job.
Still waiting on a grade for my media essay I did in year 9 from Mr Clemow who never answers his emails.
I could go on and on all day but I will personally pay for your child’s private education if Ivybridge is your only option because no kid deserves to go through that trauma.
honestly when i started the school nearly 3 years ago i was so excited to wake up early do my hair get all my books and see my friends during the middle of year 7 i had fallings out with these girls and i kept becoming friends with them and yet still didn't learn a thing even tho my mental health was shocking. as i student at ivy bridge i have been assaulted in that school and the teachers suspended that girl for half a day which is absolutely shocking, i then got chased around the school multiple times and got told to d!e and got called fat and that caused in me getting an eating disorder. the only thing they did was gave me a form to write it down and told me to mediate with them which i walked out of multiple times. they say they care about your health but really they only care about homework, uniform, hair and makeup. a lot of girls i know have felt highly objectified by boys older or younger and even teachers it honestly hurts us and the boys genuinely get away with most things and only get told to tuck there shirt in honestly its just a load of rubbish. take it from me and other students point of views its horrible and your child’s mental health will go through the roof don’t listen to all their lies its all a cover up
I do not recommend Ivybridge. Ever since joining my mental health has gone down until now I just hate going to school. There are a handful of good teachers but the rest are terrible. They are not trying to produce well rounded people ready for the world they are making robots.
In year 7 I was racially abused and when I took this issue to the school they said that they would help me and provide me with extra support but it never happened.
Save yourself the pain and go somewhere else.
Ivybridge community college doesn’t care about you, the only things they care about is your uniform , your hair, your nails. If you dare speaking your opinion you’ll be sent to a room and be removed from learning anything and have to write an apology. If there not happy with it you have to do it again and again. You can’t stand up for yourself, bullying is allowed but they stated it wasn’t allowed. To social media they seem great but the reality is terrible. If I had my name public while writing this why would have a chat with me and tell me to take it down and put me in isolation.
I’d never recommend this school and as soon as I can i will be out of here as soon as possible
I’ve been at this school for 2 years now and have had many incident with staff and severe bullying and now it’s expecting for the school to do nothing about it, I believe the way the staff deal with the students mental health and home issues is absolutely ridiculous.
I have also been repeated told to not do things a normal teenager would do like wear makeup or roll a simple skirt because they can’t tell boys to keep it in there pants. The teachers do the same thing to be honest I really don’t see why teachers can do things that students can’t I do. The school tell people not to wear rings or Jewellery yet some teachers have huge earings and millions of piercings yet I can’t have 2 if anything it’s distracting the kids. We are not robots we are not solders they tell us to be ourselves yet every single kid at the school look the same and have no freedom! Save your mental health.
If you find thes horde to reed thtas becuse I go te ivibrige cumunity colagy.
I was getting severely bullied in my lesson by this one boy in particular and I told my teacher about it. He told me to sit there and deal with it, HE NEVER EVEN GAVE THE BOY A WARNING. My mental fell again like it did in year 7 and I did try to get help but the school brushed it under the rug. I don’t feel safe at all in that school. The food here’s alright tho
Do NOT send your children to this school. They personally attack you if you disagree with them. Not just verbally I mean professionally, they will isolate you and make life very hard. Education isn’t a priority nor is the health and well-being of the staff and pupils. Their priority is if the kids hair looks right, the skirts are correct and the children must smile and nod! Most children are scared and suffering from some kind of anxiety as a result of the school.
I’m sorry but all the “outstanding” rubbish is just that - rubbish.
I’m not aware of one child or parent that is happy with this school but the next nearest secondary school is in Plympton and that’s not an option for some parents.
If you’re outspoken and stand your ground they will hate you and make life very difficult for you and your child.
The bullying doesn’t stop with the kids the teachers are just as bad if not worse.
The teachers who care and want to help the children and have their best interests at heart don’t stay long because they are shut down at every turn.
There is just one good teacher at the school I won’t name her but you’ll know if you ever come across her.
I’ve been told that my boyfriend is gay and I broke up with him because of it. This was by my own friends because they’ve been told from a complete different year. That is how sad my school is. Mental health isn’t taken seriously at all either. One of my friends is really struggling at the moment with stuff at home, they have been told that they will have support when it is needed but they haven’t got any. This person now feels lied to and probably worse than they did before. Lack of support from the school can just have a toll on your mental health alone. As well as this, we aren’t allowed to be individual. The school preach about how they want us all to be unique and bright but we can’t even be ourselves in a place where we are meant to feel safe in. Girls are not allowed to have their hair dyed, more than one piercing, their sleeves and skirts rolled, black socks, some hairstyles and no makeup unless in year 10,11,12 and 13. Boys aren’t allowed to have certain hair styles that the male teachers have themselves. Personally I think this is wrong, if we have rules so should the staff. I have been told that my hair was uncultured because I had my hair half up in a bun and the rest down. I was told that there would be serious consequences if I didn’t take it out. Also, I know of a boy in the school who couldn’t have an Afro even though it is his culture to have those sorts of hairstyles. The school also have assemblies on sexual harassment and sexual assault. Some have been reported for this but the school have taken no action towards them. Teachers in the school don’t actually teach properly, they tell you to do something and you are expected to know what they are talking about and to get on with it silently and individually. Due to covid we have to have windows open as well as doors, not only is this disruptive to our lessons, we are not allowed to wear our coats to keep warm when it’s basically the winter. In the summer however, boys aren’t allowed to wear shorts. Personally i think this is wrong as girls can wear skirts but boys can’t let their legs breathe during roasting hot days. Overall, the school is just bad and only cares for their reputation. This is already going downhill anyway as ofsted reports have shown we went from outstanding to good. The school just isn’t a nice place to be in which is actually a shame because we come there for education and we are supposed to feel comfortable and safe in its environment. Most people don’t and I think this is a serious issue.
Rapists walking around the school who the staff know about but dont care havent even said anything. People I know been aparently forced to have sex with girls or they said they would "will kill themself" who get no support with when people are getting 2 meetings a day over nothing. A black person I know got told to change their hair for having certain hairstyles from their culture. Met 3 nice teachers in 4 years of lessons the rest are horrible and who send me to reset with no warning for something like talking when. I have hearing problems so sometimes dont realise I'm talking over them. Female freind get told to roll down her skirt cause it was distracting to the teacher (male) and said he doesnt support LGBTQ. and people being bullied then get told off for starting a fight after months of verbal bullying and being followed with no support from the school just being told "just try to stay away from them. Even know about abusive parents and rape but put all their staffs effort goes into vaping or someone being too loud in a corridoor.
Absolutely rubbish school. I personally have been harassed by a group of chavs following me around. The only thing the staff did about it was telling me to stay away from them. I indeed had a fight with one of them because they were constantly following me and threw food at my bag. After this I was the one who got in trouble for starting it even though they had been harassing me for months outside and inside of school. Must say the school aren’t giving year 10s enough homework clearly as they have nothing better to do with their lives. The same person has been committing quite a few crimes lately which the school know about but once again do nothing. My friend has been having a hard time at home recently the school know about this and have said they’d support her but currently she has none. Other people whose issues don’t compare are being offered support twice a day. The school should be supporting everyone. So many people have really bad mental health due to the school. This is because of the people in it, the teachers and just overall it not being a nice place to be. Teachers give lack of support and sometimes don’t even teach you they tell you what to do and you have to do it independently. As well as this, I have been told that wearing the top half of my hair in a bun and having the rest down is uncultural. I am not allowed any piercings or allowed to have my skirt 4cm above my knee. I have been told as well as other female friends in my class that we shouldn’t wear our skirts the way we do because it’s distracting. This came from a male teacher. The school say in assembly and things that they want us to have our own identity but don’t let us wear what we like, do what we want with our hair and don’t like us being individual. Whilst I’m hear I’m going to add that boys aren’t allowed to wear shorts in the summer and have to stick to trousers when it’s roasting hot. Also, due to covid and it being the literal winter we have to keep the windows wide open but are not allowed to wear our coats in lesson. We aren’t allowed to go to the toilet even if you are a girl on your period. This will lead to you having 3 blocks in reset if you go without permission. Overall, the school is just bad.
There are many issues but some lovely teachers.
1• Communication between SLT and Students is poor. Nothing the school have done helps.
2• Budgets in the school are overlooked. Why don't you put more of the budget into glues, pencils and pens instead of some new fancy doors to kick in.
3• Let students express themselves freely. Stop the regimented system with no extreme hair styles or jewellery. Us as students want to express ourselves.
4• Think carefully about your staff. Who is there for just the money and not to teach and tell students off.
5• Allow the expression of freedom of speech, this is a school and not a prison. Students can express disapproval and dissatisfaction if they wish and should not receive punishment.
We are writing this as two students from Ivybridge community college
1. It has made our Social lives a living hell, there's so much, racism, homophobia, transphobia and just bullying in general we do not feel comfortable talking to classmates without any form of discrimination towards us or other minority groups.
2. there's so much sexism and sexual harassment, the amount of times I've heard people talking about or seen people doing it is bloody disgusting, AND THEY DONT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.
3. They just don't care about student welfare and their only response to poor mental health isstuff that doesnt help or just call in social services
4. they always gloat about how great this school is and how "privileged" We are to be here, multiple departments have a terrible head like they're so moody and horrible to us
To sum it up they only care about their media view than the students
pretty shit ngl. everyone is either homophobic or racist, and anyone who isnt gets bullied and struggles with mental health. AND worst of all the food is so bad. they dont do anyhting abt bullying even when its an actual hate crime.
Just finished yr 11 and it’s just a shitty college lots of bullies and chavs Everywhere the anti bullying program is not doing shit the teachers just stare at students surrounding 1 student and bullying them one of my friends got a sandwich thrown at her and the teacher just stared at her and DONT GO TO THIS SCHOOL OR GO TO 6th FORM it’s just terrible hope u find this good
