Unfortunately probably like every other public school

There are a handful of good teachers at longcroft across all departments but unfortunately they keep some older teachers whose quality of teaching is just reading from a PowerPoint somebody made a decade before. Text books are like gold dust, only the ones you can get your hands on are more dust then gold, as they’re probably the stragglers that made it through from the nineties and the food at the school is atrociously priced for what it is, very unsustainable for a cost of living crisis. The kids who do actually get their heads down and work hard are rarely praised and usually lumped in with the others when it comes to punishment and berating, yet the kids who do cause problems are praised for the bare minimum and get away with murder, one of which being the rules to qualify for prom, which none of them would meet yet somehow they all managed to attend. Notices sent out in the newsletters targeting girls about “distracting” people with sanitary products on their way to bathrooms, and closing off toilets for most of the day is disgusting, especially for young women whose struggles are greatly neglected by male led leadership. All that being said, there are some exceptional teachers at longcroft, about one or two per department, so if you’re in a top set you’re usually fine on the quality front in your later years.

AWFUL

AWFUL SCHOOL, Teachers find a student and will pick on them constantly and blame them for things they just have not done even when multiple witnesses can prove it was not them. Detentions for socks. Never have the same teacher for lessons. Staff dont even want to be there and it shows. No support or help for children who need it. DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILDREN HERE THEY WILL HATE IT!!

school

DONT SEND YOUR CHILD HERE

doesnt handle bullying just doesnt care what you do and sends you to iso if you refuse or talk back or not feeling well
doesnt care about your mental health and just tells you to suck it up and does nothing about it apart from a few things.
teachers are horrible, dont listen to you!!!!

My opinion on secondary school as a student

Needs to focus on students mental health alot more, not just create PowerPoints on the pupil bulletin. Understand if they take time of for mental health and understand that alot of peoples mental health (including mine) has gotten alot, alot worse due to lockdown and then the sudden school hours, schedule and homework.

DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD HERE!

Do not send your child here unless you hate them! I went to longcroft from years 7-11 and it honestly ruined me. They have favourites and the students they pick on, and unfortunately once they have decided who they like and who they don’t you can never change that. They offered me no help and support with my education/grades or mental help. I had many panic attacks outside the pastoral room with teachers just looking at me and walking past - yet no help provided. This school is honestly corrupted. I never suffered with any mental health issues before going here and had no reason too. Yet I left the school with scars all over my body. PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD HERE!!

Don’t send your kid or kids here

I hated Longcroft I ended up moving school because of my mental health I struggle with a lot of subjects since I didn’t get any help from any teachers whenever I went to pastoral they would always send me back because they had to deal with naughty kids. Teachers were shocking apart from one or two they would never help me or anybody else teachers can’t control the class and they need to be taught that. The classrooms and the halls were a mess and whenever I had to get a book I couldn’t and I had to write on paper for the rest of the year. My conclusion is DO NOT send your child here unless you want your child to have mental health problems or fail their GSCE please be concerned that they don’t handle bullying because they never helped me

The school don’t help with any sort of issues, the care co-ordination team don’t help with any mental health, and teachers have their favourite students, and pick on other students who aren’t seen as “high achievers” I would not recommend this school to anyone. The school does not do anything when students are bullied and often punish the victim

Extremely Lacking

As a student i feel i must offer the truth from an insiders perspective. The teachers are mediocre, failing to put kids in their place and generally overlooking those who try hard. All the attention it pointed to the misbehaving kids like it is a daycare for them. The resources and funding are pitifully lacking, the food is overpriced and they built a whole new school with money that should have been spent in better places. The textbooks are one to ten children and twenty years old, you have to wander the halls searching for a new exercise book and every child at the school has at least one major mental health issue if not caused by longcroft then certainly fuelled by its staff and general uncomfortable environment. They dont listen to concerns and have a very small number of staff that are actually competent when it comes to understanding the children. Unless you have no other choice do not send your child to this school and expect them to be happy with their lives and education.

Not the most welcoming

The environment isn’t great, and some of the teachers weren’t the best, but a lot of the courses are good and if you put in the effort it can be great. Aside from this, the way they handle racism, homophobia, + bigotry are disgraceful. They blame the victims of these attacks and commonly try to justify the bigots actions. In addition to this, they do not know how to deal with transgender students (from my experience) They made up excuses as to why they cannot assist me in getting the help they needed and made no effort to ensure I was comfortable and correctly gendered whilst I was there. I also had my fair few transphobic remarks from teachers (mostly in the PE department) I came out with good grades but it was at the cost of my mental health plummeting and the worst few years I’ve had in terms of it. Some of the support from select teachers is great, but from my experience there I wouldn’t bet on it.

Poorly ran. Deluded staff.

Had some great memories here and met some class people but the quality of teaching is not the best and the heads are all deluded and have no idea how to run a school. The scran from canteen isn’t to bad though. Left here with no GCSEs so would probs send your kids elsewhere.

Longcroft. Huh well it is a good school but they need to focus on students mental health a lot more. I get they want us to look smart in terms of uniform and be good academically but sometimes it’s too much. Inside the school is a dump it needs redoing up like the new lower to make school feel nicer to be in. Teachers sometimes just don’t understand, I get they’re doing their job but in certain situations they just don’t understand. The pastoral team is great- that’s the best bit and really handled my bullying situation well in year 7!
