Don’t take your child here!

Absolutely shocking

Can’t be allowed out at lunch or break. Only care about attendance no support at all! If you’re struggling they do kick off at you and blame your for your mistakes. Can’t ask for help without getting in trouble. They are now lying to offstead about sixth form saying students are allowed out by will when being forced to stay in. You will get targeted of your race and it’s full of d heads. If you smoke you will have to suffer as you have to stay in side. You will also be complained at for smoking in public space. You cannot go to any teacher without being a target. The office attendants are joke and very snotty. You will not get the education you need and you will not be offered any additional support if you’re dyslexic or behind. If you’re suffering with diabetes you will not be allowed any fizzy drinks and will have to suffer and not allowed any food in lessons even if you’re starving. The food is stale and also the drinks in the vending machine. The dogs are more clean then the school and the policy about what your wear is a joke. In extreme weather change there is no heating or if it’s boiling you will still have to wear a blazer. Sandymoor is just as bad. This is absolutely disgusting. I hope the students who will be attending next year will avoid this school and any other with ormiston in it. Never been so disappointed. The bullying what goes on you will be blamed and no one does anything about it. The head of sixth form is a prick and the head teacher. Complains about teachers going in the changing rooms just too look at your child getting changed. It’s noncey. It’s heartbreaking for any child.

There is also nothing here or activities. It’s like a boarding school but worse!

Needs ALOT Of Improvement

I will not name names, school is a joke, children run loose and the only punishment is Isolation. They shove our children into Isolation with no regard of their well-being. Detentions are a joke, there is no safety and it deserves to be shut down. Ofsted need to have a real check of this place, it is absolutely terrible and there is fights every single day, as students do not care about their grades because they are taught to be sneaky but be good. The teachers do not care what goes on aslong as they are okay and they are not affected. The safeguarding is just a scrap. They ask you once after a big incident if u are alright, then if u say yes that’s it. If you say no, they say they will ‘investigate’ more and never do. Reception ladies were okay, but spoke very rudely to me for no apparent reason.

School is bonkers, no rules set into place and the teachers don’t care.

F you

This school protected my sexual assaulted from being called out as such, as that was apparently "bullying", more than they protected me from him. They had the guts to tell my parents they thought I was lying about it too. Let that sink in people.
This school does not care about it's students. At all.

OBA is awful

Honestly I do not like OBA. Its environment is overall poor and most of the time I do not feel I am getting the academic support I need

A joke that you can't laugh at.

The school is a mess, allowing homophobia, transphobia and racism to run rampant in the school. They regard all students with a careless attitude and only do something when the numbers fall, because that's all we are to them. numbers.

not to mention they have no capabilities of dealing with anyone. Students with mental health issues are told to breathe, exercise or are offered minimal help from terrible institutes such as cahms. I personally was offered counselling that fell through and a year later I haven't received it.

And the school couldn't care less if you're being bullied. a detention is the punishment most often applied, even after a group of students terrorised another group by pouring/throwing water on them, screaming and actinging violently.

Similarly, i witnessed a teacher SCREAM at a student for being "heterophobic" because he had made a joke regarding heterosexual people. its pathetic.A simple joke can't be made but in P4C we're forced to deliberate if LGBT people deserve rights? it's pathetic.

the emotional, mental and physical turmoil I have endured at this school is by no means worth it. don't send your child to a facility that will only regard them as a number and not a human being, and is more likely to reprimand them for being different then being misogynistic, racist, homophobic, transphobic or a general bigot. The school has been caught lying about GCSE grades before, because as stated in a previous review, the school thrives go be perceived as excellent. But it's in shambles. all the teachers are leaving because they're finding better job opportunities elsewhere.

To summeraise: The school can't keep staff, They don't care about any of the students, the blame students for the problems of the school and they are hopefully another 1 or 2 Ofsted reviews away from being shut down. I feel like a clown everytime I walk by/into the school, because the school is a big fat joke. But it's been such a long joke that no one can laugh anymore.

Aweful

Terrible school. The truth is that the school hides behind a wall of “Excellence” while at truth being a public school with teachers that you can count on one hand who actually want to teach. Aweful care standards and a ridiculously handled “Safguarding” scheme which is more of a joke than the teaching in there. Would not recommend to anyone

Massive Review Innit

OBA is a school for students who don't have mental health issues. While the school often offers help for those in need of it, they are usually the cause of the issue, or they worsen it. Multiple people have stated that calling home about something will worsen their mental situation due to the danger, but safeguarding still did it and were shocked when the kid said it didn't help - no shit sherlock, the kid knows more about their home life than you!

While the school is better than most in the area, it doesn't make it a good one. Teachers rarely give students a break - students who are evidently suffering are still forced to work with fear of consequences if they don't. They overload us with work and homework, especially during the pandemic when home learning takes place.

Additionally, the behaviour towards bigotry such as racism, trans/homophobia, sexism and misogyny etc is disgraceful. The school allows uneducated cishets to make PowerPoints about the LGBT+ community, the Black Lives Matter movement is only ever discussed on a wet day when P.E is taught in a classroom (and that's only for the kids who don't do theory!), in the past 2 students have held hands and were told they would get "done for heterophobia" by a teacher, and upon explaining gender dysphoria, transgender students felt threatened by a safeguarding member so much so that they had to then lie about the statements they wrote.

Further to this, members of staff are biased towards certain students. Usually, they will focus on a student on their phone and make an issue about it rather than focusing on the bullying and/or harrassment going on at the other side of the room.

One of the school's worst features is how they make us all look the same, despite telling us to "dare to shine" while we sit in our grey and black uniform, bored of ourselves.
Firstly, they allow no fake nails or rings, which is understandable because of P.E. But then, they don't allow natural nails to be painted. They don't allow earrings or necklaces or piercings for god's sake. You aren't allowed to have bows on your school shoes, you can't walk around anywhere but the classroom without your blazer on (even in the summer), you get told to take coats and hats off the second you walk through the door, even when your hands are filled with sanitizer, and you arent allowed to wear your own hoodie/jacket for P.E, or even just in general. Some students may use certain articles of clothing for comfort, and feel distressed when told to remove them or put them away. Also, a good amount of students can't afford a £40 OBA hoodie!

In class or at lunch you are not allowed to listen to music, even in a room on your own or with a member of staff you are not allowed to, EVEN IF you're clearly distressed and need to relax.

A lot of students have claimed to leave class when something bad happens, so they can escape to the toilet with a sharpener or scissors, or even a cigarette. School does not allow for coping with addictions (or coping in general for that matter).

Unfortunately, there is no better school to go to in the area than OBA. Move away? Sure. Go ahead, if you can deal with change then why not? But it's not that easy for some.

Trying to think of a good point about the school is hard. Even on the last day they'd never let you wear your own clothes or bows on your shoes. However, two or three staff members are quite chill, you'll be lucky to have them for your classes.

To anyone attending oba who is struggling, I wish you luck. Stay alive, it gets better tomorrow I promise.

Edit: Holy poo I wrote so much

oba review

During the pandemic, the school have been an absolute nightmare. My child has just gone into year 11 this September and from April to July , they were setting her work via google classroom. The work they were setting was much more difficult than what they do in school and they were setting too much. The school day is 9-3 so that’s what I told my daughter to do, but because she had so much work, she was finishing it at about 5pm sometimes it even got to 7pm. They didn’t help with any mental health issues that the pandemic may have caused and never gave the poor kids a break.
