Former Employee's Honest Review: Outwood Academy Ormesby.

Former Employee's Honest Review: Outwood Academy Ormesby.

I hope this review makes sense and apologies for being so long.

This academy came up in conversation and brought back dreadful memories on how they dealt with bullied & falling behind pupils.

I'm not concerned about being anonymous.

Even though 8 / 9 years have passed, this academy left a "bad taste in my mouth" when I was told not to return after teaching here for 5 months.

I worked at this academy in 2015 as a cover supervisor / cover teacher. The bad reviews on this academy doesn't surprise me.

I was always worried about making a complaint to Ofsted, due to being "blacklisted & management pulling ranks" by the academy and the agency I worked for at that time.

This academy was not interested in helping pupils who were being bullied or falling behind in their work.

I offered free 30 minute after school reading lessons for year 8 (who where almost a year behind) but was refused. I offered group work to help those falling behind (years 8 & 9). Again I was refused.

I was warned on several occasions not to intervene with pupils who were being bullied.

There were several teenagers who were being continually bullied and often tried to prevent them from leaving the school premises on a daily basis.

I had an argument with one of the disciplinary members of staff (who I totally disliked and she always wore red shoes) who firmly told me "if pupils choose to leave the school premises, they are no longer our responsibility". I firmly responded "You're joking right? We have a responsibility to keep pupils on our premises. Pupils in a distressed state are easy targets for other bullies outside these school gates and adult predators". She firmly believed I was wrong and gave me a final warning.

In the staff room, The head of English, Angela Barbuck (her surname sounded something like that) and her sidekick (Miss Browning) were viewing and discussing their targets for the academic year 2015 / 2016.

They were only interested in seeing the green across their chart and bragging about how fantastic it made them look. I was looking at both of them thinking "what about the ones in red who need extra help?" So I decided to ask this question and Angela quickly replied "Oh were not worried about that at this stage". What could I say? I had no power or position to argue this case.

My final day came, when I stepped in to stop a bullied 14 year old female pupil from leaving the school premises in a distressed state. I told her she can do her school work in my classroom.

The head of English (Angela) and Miss Red shoes approached me stating this is not allowed and not to return the next day.

I would like to add other teachers were extremely happy for me to step and help bullied pupils i.e. do their work in my classroom.

Angela and Miss Red shoes made sure these teachers were informed this not allowed & pupils were forced to continue with the status quo. It was extremely obvious teachers were scared to challenge this.

It took me many months to get over what I witnessed and worried what happened to these bullied teenagers. Absolutely disgusting.

I moved to online teaching in 2017.

I teach pupils an alternative subject online (criminology) 14 - 16 who refuse school, have school attendance & lesson subject issues.

The pupils I teach are in the same situation as the ones I tried to help at this dreadful academy back in 2015.

I worked at 6 different schools across the north east of England: Hillsview, Unity City, Our Lady & St Bede's, The Wensleydale School, Outwood Ormesby and Outwood Redcar.

Angela Burbuck & Miss Red shoes made Ormesby worst of them all.

Not only did these two dreadful educators terrify the children, they terrified the staff too!

Please do not send your child!

this school watched me get sexually assaulted and didn't do anything. So my cousin took it into his own hands. He grabbed him out of the dinner line and dragged him outside to talk. Everyone thought it would be a fight. But considering the boy is in year 9 and my cousin is in year 11, they wouldn't be a fight. The teacher took my cousin from him and took me and him into a room. My cousin told the teacher about my sexual assault and that the headteacher wouldn't do anything about it. The teacher said that was false and that they already had a word with him. But, he kept on repeating after getting told not to. All they made us do, was write a statement and sit in reflection all day. They did not do anything about the child.

Go but don’t be a D head

It’s an alright school tbh. Ofc there’s gonna be people saying it’s the worst school, which are most definitely the ones that skip school and have never been there once in their life. They don’t take bullying as seriously as they should. They sugarcoat it thinking they’re gonna win people over. Headteachers lovely, teachers are lovely. Low-key missing it

Don't go here

This school is terrible

i was constantly assaulted and Sexually harassed by students while the teachers just watched it happen

I had a group of boys watch me get changed for PE because the teacher let them break into the room.

Also the teachers get abusive and yell in your face, you get sent home if your socks aren't black and they hire p*dophiles.
