okay education, disgraceful bullying and defective staff support.
I would like to start off with the fact that learning there is not that bad, unless you are getting picked on or bullied. The subjects are quite interesting, and there are great teachers who effectively (and actually) teach, but they are moreover shadowed by the ones who do not, and if you are a student here, you may wonder how they were even accepted into the school. Overall, learning wise, it could be better, but it is not the worst school by a large amount, and i found a sense of (mostly) ease within the grounds. Back to my point about bullying though, it is horrendous. You will get picked on by 90% of the year, and even people outside of your year, for being even slightly different. Keep in mind i am not talking about "traditionally weird" behaviours, like acting like an animal or an anime character, i am talking about the fact that if you do not look a certain way, whether it be an extreme difference, or maybe you are a female and do not want to wear skirts because of the coldness of winter or do not fit the societal beauty standards, or maybe you are male and do not wear your typical nike attire, 9/10 chance you will get picked on. Moving away from physical appearances, if you are quiet in lessons (whether you are shy, or simply do not wish to talk) or sit in a different way (perhaps you sit hunched), you will get picked on. Awkward person? 9/10 chance you're getting bullied. Have a learning difficulty? Bullied. Have an interest in a different thing than them? Bullied. I have experienced this and have watched others experience this my whole time at this school, and every time i have sought support from the staff here, things have been left unresolved. I contacted my head of year about bullying one time, and their response was "if they're saying it didn't happen, it didn't happen", despite there being camera evidence of the incident, and despite there being multiple witnesses whom they refused to interview about said incident. I have seen people been bullied into being home-schooled, all because they were a little bit different (dressed differently, looked differently, were quiet, had learning disabilities/disorders). If you/ if your child experiences difficulties mentally, whether it be something like depression, or a diagnosed mental disorder, nobody here will effectively support anyone with said difficulties, if they even support you at all. with my personal experience, i was feeling extremely down and having thoughts about not very nice things, when i sought support, as we are encouraged to, i was told that "if you really felt this way, you would be in here everyday telling us this." which is insanely unprofessional and an outright disgusting thing to say to a struggling child. Not only is the bullying here verbal, it is also physical. In some cases, you/your child can and will get physically bullied if the perpetrators are bad. Now, bullying happens in every school unfortunately, but here, paired with the fact that the staff will not do anything to stop the bullying, is horrific. Bullying has not only a large affect on mentality, but also learning, so i have absolutely no idea how they have gotten the rating of "outstanding".
Bullying is taken incredibly seriously and dealt with really well. The support staff is excellent, and I've never felt unsafe at the school. Any complaints of any kind are taken seriously, and the teachers employ numerous amounts of opportunities for student voices to be heard (e.g. house captains, prefects, etc.), so it feels like an incredibly supportive place to be schooled. The canteen food isn't perfect, so taking a packed lunch is recommended, however there have been marked improvements as of late. Once again, due to the fact that students are heard. The only main issue I've witnessed has been misbehaviour of some students, in which the students don't seem to be punished in a suitable way. However, every school has their hands tied by OFSTED, so this isn't just a Redden Court issue. All in all, very good school with fantastic teachers
I'm sorry but I'm a student at redden court and being a year 11 student is really stressfull. I have been to my head of year many times telling him my trouble but i always get the same responce it's always "your fine" and "go back to lesson".
I think this is rediculous, I have been waiting for a councler all year and still nothing. They say they help with bullying but thats just not the case I've seen some unberleavable things happen to my pears and me, they hardley do anything. All this school cares about is money and grades not about our wellbeing. I've had a teacher lie to my parents face and tell me to shush about it thats not perfessional so at the end of the day I do not recomend this school to your children but I do hope that someone has a better expirence than I did
I am a former student and in regards to aspects like about the school like the teachers I received they were a mixed bag to say the least. I had teachers that didn’t teach us anything or very little though on the flip side some teachers helped me out massively and has developed my interest in that subject(biology, yr 11 French teacher, maths & a cs teacher was best). The canteen food isn’t amazing so I would recommend bringing a packed lunch. The school is known for dealing with bullying and this is entirely true and the support team are decent. The school does maintain equal rights especially when it comes to more physically disabled students and the support they received was great. To improve the school does need some better teachers because with 2 subjects I had to teach the content( the parts we weren’t taught and there was a lot ) myself but I do recommend attending this school.
7.5/10
it’s okay i guess, i mean the teachers could be better in some subjects - it’s like you’ll either have a brilliant teacher or an awful teacher, and before quarantine there was no soap in the girls toilets so.. make your mind up on it
