Not fit for an educational establishment

A woefully inadequate school, devoid of any moral grounding. Send your child somewhere else.

Review of Set Beccles

Students with special needs that aren’t considering low functioning, i.e needing extra support, were very much neglected outside of basic needs.

Bullying was very prominent in the year I was attending, and since leaving, I have been informed by younger siblings that this is still the case and situations involving the targeting of students go undealt with.

The changes of teachers happened so often that the school was unable to provide us with stability within lessons. Students unable to adapt to these changes that presented a different supply teacher every lesson suffered greatly in terms of showing up to lessons or wanting to go to lessons.

not sure

Poorly behaved staff

The teachers at set Beccles school say they care about students mental health but when a student goes to a member of staff they push the children away and isolate them. All they care about is sitting them in a lesson which for one is to difficult for them. The meetings are very poor. This school does not care about the students. They don’t listen to the students here .They also over exaggerate to parents about any slight incident. They are constantly sending students home including my child for a slight inconvenience in their uniform I advise you do not send your child to this school.

Don’t go here

Absolutely terrible school I hate it here but I’m not allowed to move . The teachers are rude and ignorant and don’t make accommodations for young carers ,many people have got food poisoning from the school food but the dinner ladies are absolutely lovely , your not allowed to go to the bathroom during lessons without a toilet pass if your in your period you have to speak to your head of year for a pas which nine times out of ten is a male. They nearly never do anything about bullying racism or homophobia but god forbid you where the wrong kind of trousers or have piercings

WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE

This school is rubbish. I do not recommend if your child has encountered bullying or has mental health issues. The school quite literally could not give a f*** about bullying even though it’s in there school policy which you are made to sign stating that if you are involved with bullying and need help that they are SUPPOSED to help you and offer support as it’s SUPPOSED to be a zero bullying tolerance school.

The current head teacher ************ was one of the worst things that ever happens to the school. She does not care about it her students at all. As a head teacher you are supposed not only successfully run the school you are supposed to support students and try your best to cater to there needs. However ***** has failed to do this several times.

Year 11’s we’re previously doing mock exams and the canteen has run out of food and as you can imagine after doing 4 hours of exams the year eleven students were rather hungry not to mention that year eleven are the last year group to be served food, that specific day they had run out of food, bare in mind this was no uncommon to happen. So students rightfully so complained about it and she stated that it’s not her problem and she can’t provide them for the food their parents are paying for.

She has also said to a student that they were being dramatic after they had finally built up the courage to talk to her about being bullied. The bullying was traumatic for the student and after having a panic attack whilst explaining the situation in her office, she told the student that they were being dramatic

The school is a breeding ground for racism and homophobia. Beccles is a predominantly white community so when there are around 10 students of diverse ethnicity’s in a school with 400 students racism is incredibly frequent. Unfortunately the school are aware of the amount of racism that happens on a daily basis and still refuse to educate and teach the children about other ethnicities and culture. This is the same for homophobia which is also extremely frequent thing that occurs daily.

Inconclusion ************ is a heartless witch and I do not recommend

Do not believe what Heidi tells you

My experience at this school was terrible to say the very least.

I guess I will start with the person running the place, wouldn't call her a head teacher really because that makes her sound like she's making decisions, which clearly she's not. I've known her to act nice when a visitor is at the school then be nasty and intolerable to her students the next, she's been know to blame victims of harassment and shout at students for the smallest things, whilst ignoring actual issues. FIRE HER.

Then the pastoral team, the school seems to pride itself on this and its nothing to be bragging about, don't sit here and tell parents that you will support them when you will pick out a few kids and just let them do whatever they want instead of teaching them that what they're doing is wrong, the racism and homophobia here is astonishing and they don't seem to care. They seem to pick the side of a bully because they like them more and make fake promises to sort things when no actions take place.

Whilst on the topic of racism and homophobia, let's talk about these assemblies, there's been about 4 assemblies in my many years attending this school about these topics and each one was just saying that you shouldn't be racist, that isn't really going to end racism but oh well.

The food here is awful, with it being raw some days, and often being the same food every week, which you'd think they wouldn't do since they pride themselves on balanced meals, may I also add that they prohibit any sort of packed lunch, so there's not much students can do but indure these meals.

The teachers at this school are very hit and miss, some teachers are known to just give you a textbook, others will actually support you and then some subjects just do not have a teacher as they can't afford to hire one. Language have had a substitute on and off for about 4 years.

overall I would not recommend this place as you can clearly see it is shambles.

Used to be good

The school was good in 2017/2018 but ever since then it has only gone downhill. The food turned bad and the teaching didn’t get challenging. The school has only just allowed bags in the corridors and they have now shut of the parent carpark which is bound to make a crash happen.

SET BECCLES SCHOOL AVOID AT ALL COSTS

This school is absolute shit to say the least, staff are constantly leaving the school ( not surprised) they do not know how to deal with bullying all they do is blame the victim and cause mental health problem, the office staff are so rude, the teachers have favourites and the badly behaved students get more attention/ interaction with staff than children who actually need it, a male staff member who I shall not name denied a child of going home from suffering deep pain from her period in floods of tears she asked to go home due to uncomfort and he DENIED her to go home as if he had ever had a period before!!

Not great!

I don’t have many problems with the school, the food isn’t bad at all, the bullying policy and support isn’t the greatest, one thing that REALLY gets to me is that if your ill, like puking ill they will not allow you to go home if your attendance is too low. You are therefore endangering other students, I personally an illness and they do not allow me to go home when I am doubled over in pain, this is atrocious. And quite honestly embarrassing that they do not allow you to go home when ill, ever since COVID they have seemed to believe that all other illnesses cease to exist quite honestly it is not very good, recently they added cctv around the school some OUTSIDE THE TOILETS not giving any of the students any privacy, also they are adding a special needs part to the school and NOW WE ARE MISSING HALF OF THE SCHOOL and it’s a small school to start off with we can’t afford to give up that space, the only reason they are adding a special needs part is for the recognition and fame they will get out of it, it’s all for the money and honestly we are just money funds for them nothing else, don’t even get me started about mr Willgres he isn’t worth my time so I have nothing to say.

Average

I was at the school from 2015-2020 under the head teachers of Mr Youngman and Mr Lees. The school is alright. Definitely could be better. The school meals are good value for a couple of quid a day for breakfast, break and lunch. I personally enjoyed them, especially the soup at break but I know many did not. It’s required to have hot meals though unless you have some out there dietary requirement. I was in top set the entire time so the experience may vary, but the teachers were good and I had a good enough education to get me grades 6-8. Some teachers were notably better than others but due to the smaller class/school size you generally got a one-to-one or direct help if you were struggling and and the teachers tend to know all the students in the class by name. However during my time at the school there was a massive turn over of staff once the previous head teacher left. (As well as many teachers coming and going throughout the years.) This meant that the years ten and eleven definitely took a hit as we had many new teachers and supply teachers as well as sharing a headteacher with another school (although now I know there’s some headmistress in charge) Language teachers have been lacking throughout the years and I had supply for french for the entire of year seven and ten which resulted in me dropping the subject in year eleven. They were so short staffed that they had to bring over an English teacher from the partnered school in Saxmundam who had to cram in two years of English into the year eleven classes as our previous teacher was awful and couldn’t control the class. There is a large difference in quality of education and behaviour depending on what set you were in. Top set seemed to have all the effort and potentially ‘high achieving’ students in it which meant if you were in the lower sets your basically screwed and I was always slightly worried about being moved sets and I knew my quality of education would decile as well as the behaviour of the lower sets generally being shockingly bad.
The office staff are miserable and rude to students. Never organised and you have to constantly ask them again and again if you need something done which is extremely frustrating and anxiety inducing.
Pastoral staff and the schools response to bullying and mental health is shockingly bad. I don’t think any bullying allegations I ever saw got properly dealt with more than writing a statement and then getting a warning.
The enrichment programmes, although lots of fun and a good break from lessons, has declined in range over the years.
There is an overall attitude in students from Set bec and the other highschool in Beccles that the school is terrible which results in the school getting many ‘rejects’ or troublesome students from the surrounding areas.
I have mixed feelings about this school as it was a good school with supportive staff and they tried their best but there are areas in the school which have been constantly lacking and they need to sort it tf out

Absolutely terrible.

My sibling went here, they are atrocious with supporting students, their school meals are bad, and the students are impolite and are not educated well. The students in the lower set are left to suffer, while the students in the higher set gets attention. Headteachers also change constantly and teachers leave regularly.

Not good

Very bad school they don't help you they ignore you most of the time and don't care about your mental health they can't control the kids and the behaviour system does not work it's utter shambles and they do not allow packed lunch so if you don't like the food you don't eat there are not enough bins in the girls toilets and there is no bathroom door and the male staff toilets are next to the girls toilets and the female staff toilets are next to the boys toilets which many of us find weird there is next to no discipline the teachers favour different students if your not a favourite you don't get as many chances you get gossiped about by the teachers they won't help you as much I think this is very unprofessional

SET Beccles

I’ve been attending this school for a while now and it’s a lovely place to learn. The teachers are great, the students are kind and you can make some lifelong friends there. The school isn’t too big so you don’t feel too overwhelmed and it caters excellently for allergies. Highly recommend!
