Counselling incident- my child had counselling and they left counselling to tell the office they didn’t feel ready to go back, the office said “well you have to go back.” My child told them about her depression and her nan lost to the disease being taught in the lesson recently. And her being uncomfortable with entering classrooms midway with all the eyes peering at her, they said “you’re a grown up.
You can go, and if you don’t leave we can issue you truancy” (my kid has severe depression and death anxiety, truancy should not even be issued to her under the equality act of 2010 stating that any condition or circumstances that prevent the child from living Their every day life needs to be accommodated for) so basically this woman came over and said “if your not gone in 5 minutes your truant” and this other guy came over saying that she should just go to lesson and what is she gonna do when she’s an adult and saying no one can walk her there, and she told him about how she horribly reacts to punishment . (She did very bad things to herself when she got a iso) and he ignored her saying that and said that she has to go on her own, and then when she kept explaining why she couldn’t take it and venting he said she was now just making up problems not to go which is absolutely immoral and horrible, this school is so bad that my child did not even feel safe going to pastoral. Which is made to help students, because he said she had to deal with it basically. And that she had to go by herself. She had to ask pastoral to not tell the member of staff out of fear of him giving her a truancy mark or being disappointed, guess what the lesson was about? The disease her nan passed away from. As she said she was uncomfortable with the lesson because of her death anxiety(she is worried every moment could be her last.) and because her nan literally died from it. He promised to check on her and never ended up checking on her, so she cried silently, when I picked her up her eyes were literally red with tears and she couldn’t talk properly or even regulate her breathing. What a disgrace of a school.
The teachers are Overly dramatic they don't listen to a word you say they twist students words and make out that a small issue is a 10x worse then it is
An okay school but there is a lot of bullying I have been on the receiving end at some point I have had a lot of absences
If your child can defend himself would recommend school but if not would not recommend there is a lot of "children" year 8s and year 7s that think they are roadmen food is alright a few options packlunch is aloud now pastoral team is so bad so if your child has a past of bullying do not attend thank you for reading my review
As a student at this school I am absolutely horrified at the lack of care for students. Bearing in mind I have only been here for a few months, my experience has been very poor. I’ve had multiple people bully me without the teachers doing anything about it and frankly, I’m thinking of leaving. The teachers care more about what you are wearing than our wellbeing and with the staff shortages we aren’t getting the right learning enviroment. I just have to say that the people in my year are horrible at school and none of the teachers do anything when you tell them about it. So please, if you can help it, try not to come to this school.
Dreadful school, massively understaffed and the staff they have got do not care about the students. Bullying is rife and goes unchallenged by staff, in fact the staff support and facilitate the bullies. The only thing the school is bothered about is uniform. Do not send your child here, I'm desperately trying to get my child out and find a school that is up to standard and actually cares about it's students.
My experience here has been an odd one when I came to the school we where the first year of full capacity and the school was hailed by student and staff alike about the quality of teaching and pastoral care.
However, when I went into my 3rd year of the school we now had 3 years at full capacity and the schools performance, pastoral team, behavior and quality/stability of teaching started to slip when we had got to choose our gcse options many wernt given first choices and some didn't even get 1st of 2nd choices.
In addition, I havnt been on the receiving end of alot of buling whilst at ixworth but when I have it has been what others and I would deem quite serve and it was wiped under the carpet mainly I believe because of a weak and indiscipline pastoral staff and overwork head of years.
So in conclusion, it is a state school and it is most likely better than alot of other schools but there are certain areas which the school most definitely needs to work on the main for me being: keeping members of staff, completely reviewing the pastoral team and making sure that they have enough support for staff to run certain GCSEs. Whether or not somthing changes under the new ownership (which from what I can see is trying to make our school more like an ordinary state secondary) I don't know we can only hope.
currently doing my gcse and i’ve been at the school 5 year, in my time i regret coming to this school because there system on punishing students is very poor and their choice im of teachers is terrible
Review of the School - Written by Current/Former Student
I am a current student who is leaving the school shortly. I have decided to provide an unbiased opinion of the school as I have been a student for almost 5 years and know the community well.
In my first two years at Ixworth, I was given a vast array of opportunities academically which not many other schools could have done. Achievements made by me and others were recognised and awarded which fostered a good working environment and motivation to succeed. The Headteacher is exceptional in providing strong leadership to both students and members of staff. The majority of teachers are knowledgeable and will strive to help students.
Sadly, the atmosphere and values which were relied on heavily when I first joined in Y7 are no longer upheld. The community no longer feels so close-knit due to the growing class sizes and staff frequently leave resulting in a lack of stability. Furthermore, the pastoral team are inadequate and I have seen many of my friends suffer as a result of situations not being dealt with effectively. The newest and largest cohort of students joining are unruly and often behavioural problems are common.
I have enjoyed my time at the school and many of the long standing staff members are exemplary. This is not a terrible school as many other reviews have pointed towards, but there are certainly some problems to be tackled.
as a student at this school I have to admit the teachers care more about skirt length than education. the teachers are horrible. They don't care about mental health or anything like that. in my opinion it's a joke.
This school is no different to any of the others. Full of abusive disrespectful staff.
They don't deal with bullying. I had to involve police to get it to stop. There are teachers who have been arrested due to them abusing pupils and people in the community.
The pastoral team is awful. They don't care about the students.
The teachers swear and shout at the students and do not give them or their parents any respect but expect it in return. They shout and threaten the kids for no good reason.
All they seem to be bothered about is putting on pressure for good grades, not in the best interest for the students but to make them look good.
They care more about the uniform and sock policy than anything else. They love to give out detentions and isolations. Which makes even attending the school pointless if the youngsters are removed from class.
If there is a problem, you never get is resolved. Poor communication between staff internally.
No choice for packed lunch as they love control and their dinners are revolting. So there are times my child and others don't eat.
School does not deal with bullying as much as it says it does. It's very easy to get detentions for no reason. Teachers will give you isolation and detentions when there in bad mood.
awful school don’t listen to the students opinion i wouldn’t recommend it’s awful. The pastoral team are no help and don’t listen to the students statements
Victim shaming, bully backing disgrace of a school
A school that puts image and results above care of students or considerations of an individuals needs.
Bullying is rife and left unchecked, as it is easier to remove the bullied than adjust the actions of multiple bullies. A guise covered in a phrase of lack of evidence, makes one wonder what constitutes the evidential sufficiency test of bullies in the world according to SET Ixworth School.
A place where a student does not feel safe, a place that fails to share information its own staff regarding protocols and agreements they themselves put in place and a place that does all of this with a smile and a wave.
My son could not get away from this place fast enough, begging to leave and fearing to return every day, just like every school child should according to the devastatingly low standards expected from the in-crowd at SET Ixworth School
