Great school

I think this school is amazing! The school is quite strict but if you are well behaved I think that you will enjoy it. One downside is that they do not teach drama and I think that this is an important lesson to develop a student’s confidence. The outdoor facilities are really good with tennis courts and an astroturf. Currently the school has to have emergency buildings because of how the department of education has build the old building. I think this school if firm but fair.

SFG academy Harlow.

I don't know anymore what a good school is like. Kids have to travel to a different school Mark Hall. In the bus kids do not behave. Teachers instead of taking the time to investigate the matter just saying that they didn't see it, it didn't happen. Absolutely disgusting. When we went to visit this school in the summer, things looked different, but now it's showing otherwise. Have spoken to quite a few parents. They absolutely not happy. Everyone is thinking leaving, and September isn't gone yet. WOW just wow. I am afraid to send my child to that school. A serious check should be done on that school. More it sounds like a prison not a school. I don't want my child to be miserable every day. Kids do not come with a smile out of that school. Some real changes need to be done and very soon honestly. Detentions run left right and centre. It's the easiest way to solve a problem isn't it? One word ridiculous. Kids are not occupied enough.

Wonderful school

I think that this school is amazing! The staff are really nice and helpful and no homework until year 9 (when you are getting ready for gcse). My only complaint is that we only do PE one a week and that it would be nice to have more fun lessons instead of the teachers just talking and explaining.

Potential for Growth and Improvement

I'd like to preface that this review is not intended to bash the school but give an honest review of my experience.

That said, the school has the ability to be an good school. However, there are
many issues that has made it extremely difficult and uncomfortable to stay in this environment. I have addressed the 3 major concerns below.

Behavior:
Generally speaking, the behavior of the children is not the best and staff aim to counter this by being loud and harsh to students. Some d need this level of discipline but it often feels like I'm on a military base and the adults are drill sergeants. Naturally, there are students that have become immune to this, while there are others who continually push the limits of how far they can go. Some students use this to their benefit to purposely be removed or excluded from classes.

Outside of exclusion, student can receive consequences in the form of break and morning detention, but some students have gotten to the point where they couldn't careless and sometimes brag about the sanctions they've gotten.

Student Well-Being:
The safeguarding team is really good at catching and managing safeguarding issues, however, with the behavior issues, it often feels as if some students have been given the green the behave however they please.

School Day:
The school is long, with student arrivals at 8:30AM and classes running from 8:50AM to 3:55PM. The school day is structured as follows:
- 100 minute lesson
- 20 min break
-100 minute lesson
- 40 minute lunch
- 100 minute lesson
- 15 minute break
- 50 minute prep session

Typically speaking, by the end of the day both students and teachers are tired and can barely make it through the afternoon prep lessons. Between all this, there is line up before each and every class and that makes the day drag on even more, especially when lines are not dead straight and students aren't completely silent [an yes even at dismissal when going home] and facing front.

All year groups also go to lunch and break at the same time, yet they cannot all physically fit in the dinning area, as such the lunch has to be staggered for each year group. This often means that they dining hall does sometimes run out of food by the time year 7 is allowed to enter.

With the day already being so long, teachers do have to stay back on some days for activities, meetings and CPD and this adds to how draining the environment can be.

Generally speaking the environment can be toxic, especially in its treatment of certain groups and persons.

The school has not yet been reviewed by Ofsted and this has placed a lot of strain on admin, which trickles down to teachers, but really is no excuse to have person walking through the halls looking and feeling like shells of themselves before the week has even ended.
