St Cuthberts is a truly abysmal school, I have no fond memories of the place. The teachers are genuinely some of the most horrid people I've ever met - they have zero consideration for struggling students because they've got poles so high up their butts that you are ALWAYS in the wrong. It's almost parodying the level of idiocy you see in the adults in the movie Matilda.
Teaching standards are extremely low, I was treated as a saint by teachers for simply being quiet and doing my work, because that is basically the gold standard when every student is loud and disruptive. Teachers fail to effectively punish students, resorting to the loudest volume they can reach to scream and belittle you for the tiniest mistakes. The issue is that most students find it funny when teachers yell, yet they keep resorting to that as punishment. It's unfair to students with disorders and sensitivities, and if you complain they will claim to do something... but do nothing. Each year I had consistently dredful classes, yet when I'd ask for a class change I'd be treated with sarcastic responses or a blatant lie that is never brought up again.
What can I really say? The teachers are downright bullies, I was insulted over and over since they knew I wouldn't fight back due to my anxiety, and the one time I did yell back at one teacher, she never yelled at me again. Why? Because they lack backbone, most of the teachers are extremely sensitive and cannot take it when you fire back. Most of them are genuine children in suits, with few redeeming qualities.
One visit while still in Primary School had two teachers resort to the school's officer to physically reprimand a kid and shout at him, when he clearly had difficulties. It's hard to believe any of them know how to deal with kids. If it's your last resort, then maybe consider taking this place as an option. When I was there, the school consisted of 8 "sets", depending on how well the kids did in exams. If your kid isn't in Set 1, give up. I was in Set 2, and dealt with some horrible students. There was constant fights almost every day, with most of the younger years scrambling to see them occur, and generally the school is hypocritical for their "Golden Rule" being to treat people how they want to be treated, yet I've never seen that fulfilled.
I went to this school from 2018-2023, and my thoughts on this place have never become more positive, but rather more negative from being old enough to understand how comedically awful my experience was.
There are some good teachers, but there are others who seem indifferent, and it really shows. We are not allowed to use the restroom during lessons, even went extremely desperate, and the teachers don’t seem to care if we are ill; they force us to keep working even when we’re not feeling well. I wouldn’t recommend sending anyone here unless it’s absolutely the last option!
Terrible school. I went there from 2015-2020 and was bullied, ridiculed, tormented and sure some teachers stepped in, but most didn't bother and some even join in thinking it was a joke, despite me clearly being uncomfortable.
Now my brother goes there and its worse. When you walk in, prison. There's three doors at the main entrance which isn't for security since every door has keypads. With the pass code of 1234 when I was there, not sure if that's still the case.
Furthermore, the coats HAVE to be black and bags too. So if you buy your kid a coat and bag they like, but it doesn't fit the head teachers 50's preference, you wasted money and you better spend money on another or Detention. Like that makes kids look smart. It doesn't, it just makes teachers look like pri*ks.
Apparently, you need a toilet pass to go during class, which is pathetic. I'd like to know what they'd do if a child urinated or soiled themselves because a teacher wouldn't let them go. How would they combat that bullying? Hell, some of the teachers would be the ones doing the bullying.
They should know that its actually illegal to prevent someone from going to the toilet, but their excuse is its disruptive.
Okay, so then why when I was there, the naughty bullies could constantly ruin my education, but when I needed the toilet, that's too far.
While there's 1 or 2 good teachers who genuinely want the best for their students, but unfortunately, they aren't enough to even make it 2 stars. From what my brother has told me, those good teachers have either left or will be leaving. That's how bad this school is.
I'm probably wasting my time writing this, because in 10 years of knowing people who went there starting with me, there's been no attempts at improvement. Unless you count the old people who think they have any idea what kids nowadays go through, but think kids are too young and arrogant to know what they actually need.
If you send your kid here, they might do something to themselves after years of bullying and years of being told to fit into the schools idea of a good person (Conservative oppression) but bright side, they get to be warm in winter with coats and radiators. Oh wait, nope. No coats allowed indoors, unless you're a teacher, and no radiators on.
Horrible, horrible place. If you love your child, keep them away from here.
Had some good times but sonn as possible the school ditched us and just tried to get all traces of our year off the schools social media's and website
Doesn't punish racism or bullying and the head teacher is a terable lady who turns the radiators off in the winter and turns them on during summer
The is aways a que to go in the girls bathroom because they only let them in 1 at a time
Had some good times but overall its a bad school
Some teachers were amazing and some were bad there was no in between.
