St Egwin's CofE Middle School

Problems I've faced: • As a trans student, the teachers are forced to use your new name if you speak to SLT about it. However, ALL of them use the wrong pronouns. No matter how much I correct them, nothing changes. • Poor mental health support. They report things to parents regardless of whether it's safe - key word, SAFE - or not. They rush you into things too fast, and either feel too formal to actually connect with properly or feel judgemental. • Staff is, for the most part, awful - they just yell at you whenever you make the smallest mistake. Shirt untucked while running around for almost an hour? Demerit. Lost finding classes? Demerit. Left homework at home or lost it? Demerit/lunchtime detention. Either way, they're mostly awful with very few exceptions. • Menstruation - I've seen friends deal with these. They had a ban on getting hot water bottles for a while, so if your parents don't allow you painkillers, tough luck. It hasn't even been told that it's allowed again, so many suffer. There is MUCH more I could say here, but just assume the things I don't mention ahead are either awful or pretty bad. Positives: • Food - The new catering service ASPENS is incredible. Many options available, all being delicious, but we want Waffle Wednesdays back! • Activities/Clubs - A decent variety, but it's mostly sport. Extra grievance: There is literally an image of a Muslim student without their hijab on the website. They are yet to get rid of it despite complaints to teachers.

Honestly, I do not enjoy myself at this school. If you try to defend yourself with perfect logic, they just give you a behavior point for talking back. Get hit and shoved, then injure yourself? Don't go to a teacher or it's your fault suddenly. The new Aspens food provider is absolutely EXCEPTIONAL, however. It makes the food so much more diverse - but we would like Waffle Wednesdays back. Some of the staff is okay, some are awful, a few are nice. Litter everywhere. Doesn't step in to help. Would not recommend this school

Super bad this school is not what you think they don't care if you get hurt if you had a situation which is not your fault it will always be. If you don't know where your classes are and your walking around to find your class and the teacher finds you sometimes they let you go but some times they shout at you give you minus points and say that it's not safe.The thing which is not safe is the cameras because if there's a fight inside they have cameras but they don't even look at them.

Ew this school does not let u stick up for urself or you will get a negative it’s not a great way to teach kids teachers always think there right but they have to understand that they can be wrong sometimes

Sexist head teacher (he was a deputy head when I was there and my understanding is that he was denied the head teacher role before and was only granted it when the former head teacher left and they were deperate) also very sloppy school, decent facilities but very mixed staff - although some were nice people nearly all of them were bad teachers and students relied on mainly independent learning to get anywhere
