Refused to hand over my children. No safeguarding in place
Review for St. John's Primary School, Kenilworth
I’m deeply disappointed and concerned with how this school has handled a recent situation regarding my children. On one occasion, the staff refused to hand over my children to me at the end of the school day, claiming it was due to "safeguarding" concerns. However, there are no safeguarding orders or legal restrictions in place that would justify such an action.
When I repeatedly asked for an explanation—four times, in fact—I was ignored. Naturally, this left me frustrated and upset, but at no point did I act aggressively or pose a threat. Instead of addressing the issue professionally, the school then tried to shift blame by accusing me of inappropriate behaviour, which only happened after I challenged their decision and insisted on answers.
Shockingly, a few days later, the school contacted my children’s mother and made serious and unfounded personal claims about my appearance, saying I had dilated pupils and looked like I was “on drugs.” This is not only false, but it felt like a deliberate attempt to discredit me because they knew they had no legal grounds to withhold my children.
In my view, this school abused their authority, failed to follow proper communication procedures, and acted unprofessionally when challenged. No parent should be made to feel powerless or accused unfairly when trying to collect their children—especially without explanation or due process.
If you're a parent, I urge you to ask questions and document everything. This experience has left me shaken, and I sincerely hope no one else has to go through the same.
