Complete, and utter shambles

IAM , a parent of a child with complex needs, this school is poor to say the least, my child is very unhappy at this, school , if you are thinking of sending your child to this school I strongly recommend not to, most kids in this school absolutely hate it, you have been warned

Mr smith

Completely useless, they disregard any bullying complaints. Most of the slt act immature and abuse their power and pick on kids for no reason. Don’t listen to people when they say that its the best school in wigan, just look at the grades over the last couple of years they speak for themselves.

Horrible

Mum Y.

No wonder the kids in this school are depressed. He secretly smokes e-cigarettes through school to relieve stress. The school does nothing about it despite reporting such behavior. They send social services to children only because the child is sad, so they tell social services that there is violence at home. My daughter came to school smiling and left feeling depressed. For example, it was understood that the phone could not be used, but the daughter's spam number rang and she had to stay after school for an hour and do extra homework. she got detention. She came home crying that it wasn't her fault. Daughter has exams abroad and she did not get authorization for fly even though she attended school diligently all year round. The someday after making a surprise for my daughter and picking her up from school, I saw a student who had her leg in a brace. she couldn't go from school she was crying and the two girls next to her were helping her. terrible view. If you have a choice, 6th graders, avoid this school like the plague and choose another one. They put up posters of super passed exams, but not the ones that are important. you will leave this school without a sense of life. for the school, it's not you that counts, but the number so that they can get money for your person.

Standish High

I hate it there. Everyone is rude including most teachers (who most likely hate kids and decided to be a teacher for some reason) and we don't get given enough food at lunch/break. So many people are actually MISERABLE there. Outside is NASTY, (old yoghurt splashes all over a wall and still not been cleaned, chewys all over the walls and floors and etc) and obviously the seagulls are so annoying, they crap on anyone and anything they can. People don't get the proper help they need (whether mentally or physically) and there is a unisex bathroom (which is alright in my opinion) but for some people they can feel uncomfortable. The only thing that place likes is the money they get. It is so annoying because they all care more about the money then children (yes we are teenagers but still). I absolutely hate it there. And half of the time people are getting told off for literally no reason (i mean it, like people could just breath and get sent out of the class) {one time we had this substitute for a few weeks and he sent someone out of the classroom (she has a time-out pass so she can go out of classes and to the head of year or someone) so she went to the head of year and the teacher on- called her when she had done nothing, (the only thing she did was not know the answer to a question and it WAS a hard question) he was so rude and disrespectful and then acted nice(-ish) when another teacher came in to check on that class}. Anyway the point im trying to get through is that iHATE that school and im sure i am speaking for almost everyone else that go there too.

Standish High

To be honest this school is not very good some teachers are okay but the majority just act immature and abuse there power as teachers on students just because they can. the SLT are useless and there more concerned about uniform and appearance then the students them selves if I was you I would not send your child to this school rumours go round saying this is the best school in Wigan which honestly I doubt very much the school is extremely outdated and parts of it are falling to bits although some teachers actually care but that is only a few most teachers just show that they don’t want to be there and aren’t very kind or respectful to the students and they expect students to show them respect when they can’t show respect to them it’s a joke and they need to pull them selfs together and get a life and actually learn how to teach in a way that isn’t disrespectful to the students

Standish High School

I think that the school is alright but the teachers should be a WHOLE lot less moody and we should also get either bigger size portions of food or a cheeper price for the portion amount we have now. The school might get better through the time i have left before i leave. Less homework aswell and provide more help for students with autism/ADHD/anxiety/social anxiety/etc

My experience at this school was not pleasant.

I went to this school 10+ years ago. I got bullied at this school for being a different race and was called racist slurs. No one did anything about it and staff did not care. They don’t have business studies as a subject which is one of my favourite subjects. Outdoor and environment is ok but when I went to this school I saw littering on the floor. Indoor was alright. Teachers are ok, not that friendly the ones I had. The food was ok. The only thing I enjoyed about this school was being a school prefect and I was part of the school choir. Not much support for dyslexic students so I found the subjects difficult. Made a few friends but no longer friends with them. I regret going to this school. I wish I went to Deanery High School like my sister but everyone’s experience is different. Mine was just not good.

Fights on social media, sexual harassment The Standish Way

Agree with all of the other peoples reviews. The staff may as well be robots only interested in results and skirt lengths. One of the female teachers actually said to her form u can’t wear yr skirts too short as it will distract the male teachers?! My child and her friends reported separately to their parents who aren’t best pleased. Teachers try to brush bullying under carpet. My child always got excellent reports, friendly and polite. Every time I mentioned the bullying by a gang of boys nothing was said and only wanted to help my daughter ?! Although it’s certainly not her with the problem! I even stated in an email that nothing would be done about the bullying as there are no consequences for bullies and they said nothing to me regarding this. Nothing. There are regular fights shown on social media with kids watching all at lunch break. My nieces (same age) were horrified when they saw one of the fight videos between 2 girls and said this would never happen at their school.
My child was confronted in the classroom in front of a teacher by boys saying ‘come on you know you want it etc’ repeatedly. This was reported then later told me it was ‘dealt with’ by attendance offficer but my child has heard from her friends this is still going on. And getting worse. I deregistered my child and school are required to acknowledge this asap or within 5 days but my child’s friends has just told her 2 months later she’s still on the register ? Anyway getting back to the bullying this will and already is ruining this school , it’s such a shame as many moons ago when I was young it was known as the ‘posh’ school. Good god not any more. Enrol yr child at their and your peril.

Worse School in wigan.

Nobody deserve to go to such a school, Not only does everyone shout at you for little things (including students) the personality of the people there is not “out standing”. As a parent I hate to see my child come home everyday crying over something that happened at this school. The food is an absolute disgrace and how much they charge is absurd. £1 for a cookie? Please! I could run co op and get my daughter 4 cookies for £1! Who do they think they are? Not everyone can afford this! And also the way they deal with bullying is ridiculous! My daughter was being builled for things she can’t control yet the teachers did nothing but say “thats just how life works” when my daughter told me this i was disgusted how they didn’t care about her or anyones well being, although they only care about homework? Do you know how much pressure my daughter feels when she has a mountain pile of homework to do and knowing she had to do it otherwise she will get shouted at? Care about peoples wellbeing and become better Standish High. I do not recommended this school at all. Send your child to this school if you want them to be crying all the time.

Behaviour System And Learning

Absolute ridiculous, they lock the bathrooms, give you bad points for the stupidest reasons, and the teachers are absolutely nasty to the students, absolute disgrace

Horrendous.

Honestly, i wouldn’t recommend this school even for my worst enemy. My daughter has told me constantly about the verbal abuse that staff members aim at students. Teachers care far more about skirt lengths, or what makeup your child is wearing, than their well-being. One example, of students rights being exploited is the locking of bathrooms. Students aren’t allowed to use the bathroom during lesson time, and even at breaks or lunches not many toilets are open. Considering there is around about 10 toilet cubicles open, and a thousand odd students, i find this appalling. I’m sure that staff know things like this can lead to bladder infections, uti’s or even the bursting of their bladders? And yet, staff express how much they care about their students well being. My daughter has often heard teachers use the excuse, that ‘When you’re in work, you won’t be able to leave to use the bathroom’ although, that’s untrue. Once you’re in a working environment, you get treated like a person. At this school, you get treated merely as an exam score. The amount of times i have heard my daughter and her friends talk about the verbal abuse they received off of staff is unacceptable. If i were to be honest, i would say that this school should be investigated and closed. They completely take away each students individuality, forcing them to conform to their strict sets of rules and stripping them of any sense of self. My daughter has experienced depersonalisation because of this. Not even to mention the lack of mental health services. One of my daughters good friends was allegedly named a ‘problem child’ by a staff member, for struggling with her mental health. The well being staff genuinely do not care how our children feel, they just want them in their lessons. What matters more, the fact our children are being driven to suicide by you, or the fact they should be in their lesson?

Absolute joke

Absolute disgrace of a school.
A school that locks the bathrooms throughout the school and only opens one for the entire school at break time.
One were staff can be verbally abusive to kids who are trying their hardest, a certain teacher of science in particular is a disgrace.
Treating all the kids like they're the same. No individual pupil needs are met.
Bullying isn't taken seriously at all more like a problem they want to brush under the carpet.
So long as the school looks good for Ofsted then that's all they care about
They will send you a mental health bulletin every week, the irony is the school is actually incompetent at handling any child's welfare beyond that of a grade.
If you have a sensitive child, no let me rephrase, if you have a lovely well mannered kid this school will ruin them. My daughter's mental health is on decline because of the staff and pupils at the school.

Help the students

Although my son has not been the best student at standish, I feel as if the teachers do not handle situations appropriately and like to work together to make issues that are clearly the teachers fault look like the students. I feel as if the school likes to make students feel as if there always wrong and the SLT need to re-evaluate there staff (including some SLT members) not going to name names (Mr Billington) likes to bully students due to the fact that he simply has power within the school. I do not feel as if he is safe to work there as he has such a tendency to bully students even though he is clearly in the wrong. He has had multiple incidents which have clearly shown him to be a terrible and unethical person as he makes out the situations to be much worse than they actually are. I really hope that the school investigates him instead of trying to back him up.

Bullying

That’s the worst school that can exist in UK
We are foreman family and the most racist area is here around Manchester they don’t even hide!
My son is bullied at school (shevington high school)coming back all covered in mud in a horrible mood.
Then after don’t ask where the hate’s come!
We will move soon but that experience will be remembered and told to everyone so the people going to know how parents grow their children specially in Wigan!
The drugs are all around in here, children left outside till late time as 23:00 and I speak about 12-13 years old children!!!
Police are never seen checking anyone.
What century you people live in?
We’ve been all around Europe and never experienced such a bad behaviour!
Worst place we’ve ever been and seen.
Shame on you English government for not taking any action about that!

Standish high school

I dread coming to school every day the ‘teachers’ can’t teach and make the lesson incredibly boring and they wonder why I am not focused. There are a minority of teachers who genuinely care and I respect them but honestly needs work, the facilities are horrible especially the toilets which they lock so you can’t even use them.

DISAPOINTED!

I was expecting more from this school people say that its the best school in Wigan. The teachers always talk about the Standish Way and the school only care about grades, not making the students happy. The teachers are so arrogant and saying that they are going to do stuff rather than actually doing actions. In PE they only want to do rugby and football. In the open evenings they just tell a bunch of lies. A good thing is student services, they are the only department that actually cares about the students. Finally, the behaviour in this school is dreadful, many students make it hard to concentrate in lessons.
PLEASE IMPROVE!

Terrible school

This terrible school is making my child upset every day. When I applied for the school I heard it was the best in wigan. It’s the opposite. I wish I had sent my kids to rose bridge or deanery. The teachers do not care about the mental health of the children. My son and his mates said to me that it was unwelcoming and the teachers only care about grades and not about mental health. It’s extremely disappointing. There are very few nice teachers most being in the humanities department. Apart from mrs littlefair my daughter is taught by her and says she’s moody. Hopefully you sort this out

not ‘outstanding’

my expierence with the school isn’t the best, certain students arnt allowed to go to the toilet even when in desperate need and the toilet use of students is monitored. the way teachers talk to the students is apauling and the way mental health is handled is unfair, students who are struggling with mental health a large majority of them are just labled as “disruptive” or “bad behaved“ teachers don’t wonder why students behave the way they do, i’ve also been told to “stop being so sensitive and emotional ” by a staff member however there are very few teachers who actually care abt wellbeing and mental health the staff can be very insensitive and lac alot of empathy and completely disregard how hard homelife can be for students. i’ve been in so many situations where a member off staff has compared their home life to mine. for some students their breaks are a privilege and if misbehaved they are banned. teachers don’t care about the students on a personal extent however on the education side the school is alright teachers offer extra help outside of school hours and the food is good especially the chicken wraps and burgers

This school is absolutely disgraceful. These teachers are not right to the students they don’t particularly like. And they don’t ever let you go toilets when all the toilets are locked at break and lunch

No care for students on a personal level

Cares way way way more about grades than mental well-being. As a grade 9 student I was consistently encouraged to over work until I reached burnout, for example we were told to memorise English essays and stories in advance so we just had to regurgitate it in the exam, which obviously gave us great marks because the teacher could control what we wrote, but it was a massive, unbearable and unachievable demand to force students to memorise that much. Equally, their way to help us with out mental well being were naf assemblies on how to revise effectively etc.. Also had a lot of nasty experiences with unprofessional teachers being rude towards me despite me (a nerdy type) being, imo, polite. Despite this, some teachers genuinely cared about students and would do everything they could to help out, but this mainly revolved around academics e.g. going out of their way to do extra revision sessions. A lot of these sessions were mandatory meaning you wouldn't get lunchtimes, time after or before school because they threatened to not let you go to prom if you didn't go to revision sessions which I think was unfair because personally I learn better with independent learning anyway. When I started at the school, *** ****** was new and hadn't had much of an impact meaning the school was still great and attracted lots of young enthusiastic teachers who cared a lot about their subject. By the time I left, the school was falling apart and was very understaffed, particularly the science department which left my year group (during GCSEs) being taught by supply teachers for both years of GCSE. bullying was also a massive issue, I was never subject to any of the problems but a young boy I knew was very affected by it to the point that it was a very sad ending and nothing angers me more than how preventable that was yet nothing was done to help him.
Sport was good, they were top of a lot of things but they were very sexist and elitest. If you weren't the very best at the sport, you were chucked in the lower sets and forgotten about. The girls never did football or tennis or rugby, just netball and rounders and vice versa.

Not the best

Yeah don't go here. They can talk the talk and say all these good things but they aren't very good. They don't care about bulling and haven't handled any of the bullying I've received well. Most of the boys are homophobic and annoying and things get stolen and nothing is done.

teachers with god complexes

The school only cares about grades and don’t know how to handle mental health at all. Teachers are allowed to talk badly about other students in front of students. they practically encourage bullying. certain higher up staff members consider skirt length and one way systems (pre covid) more important than children’s welfare. teachers are incredibly biased. you get a few good teachers but they’re a minority. there’s never enough supplies and a lot of the school is incredibly outdated.
