THE BAD REALITY OF SCHOOLS AND THIS ONE IN PARTICULAR!
Horrible teachers, no care for ur mental health or wellbeing. My child was bullied for ages at that school and the school had knowledge of it but did nothing because the perpetrator was in social care and had some problems i was outraged. It’s unbelievable how they talk to students and the conversations students over hear from teachers are madness for example “let’s let her cry it out she will stop I can’t deal with that right now” or “u really need to get over this and grow up “ ( - said about a sexual assault) , “I don’t care about u I care about the money” some teachers can show compassion when necessary but not often and many kids feel like they can’t speak to anyone and even in lessons most teachers can’t go one lesson without sending on call (slt) to remove a pupils or to control the class. It’s embarrassing that that teachers can’t even control a class full of children, they even tried to disregard any type of drama or situations that have never went the school rules because they only care that u follow the rules and nothing else and that they get good reviews from the public the council and even the school board.
My child is now struggling really bad with anxiety and depression because students even the school made my child feel unsafe. I tried to send many emails and they glossed over everything I said and tried to make my child look like the problem when really my kid was just defending themselves from immature cruel manipulative kids who are trying to get a rise out of my child which they succeeded in many times.
The school may look good from the outside but in reality the inside is just cruel staff, uncontrollable children with small chances of passing there GCSE/mocks/exams because of the amount of distraction in classes and out of it. I understand they have jobs to do but children are made to feel like they shouldn’t live there lives or care about their life what’s put on there school records because school staff show no faith in there pupils and when they do it’s because u are there class pet. My child has missed lots of school because she has panic attacks about going there and seeing those bully’s everyday and the teachers who stereotype her to be a naughty kid or a waste of space. What’s also worrying is that students with issues similar to my child use it as an anaesthetic or life style to show and tell around the school without there parents knowing or anyone showing any signs of caring and reporting this to teachers and etc..
My child struggles to even get out of bed because she feels like her life is meaningless and she is currently going to therapy and getting the help she needs. It’s going to take time for my kid to heal from this , she will prove those teachers wrong and spent her recovery with her family and friends.
I wanted to come on here and express my feelings about the matter because I think it is unacceptable that the youth have to going through this for 5 years then to have to stay in some form of education til they are 18 and be expected to get good grades be excepted into college and live on happy and full of life after years of torment. I HATE ! this school and I will never send my other children there EVER!..
Stour Valley was just very average when I attended- teachers either did little in terms of stopping bad behaviour or too much, giving harsher punishments than what was actually deserved. Older students had the tendency to pick on younger ones and it was rare for anything to be done about it. There was a lot of hateful language used in the corridors and classrooms, especially involving race/ sexuality. Sometimes teachers would snap at students just asking questions in class, which obviously doesn’t feel good when you genuinely don’t understand something. A few people were expelled during my time there, one for bringing a weapon to school. The school also featured on the 2022 Everyone’s Invited list, a list of over 3000 schools in the UK with reports of assault and rape allegations; something to bare in mind and definitely check out if you’re interested. Homework amount was average and most teachers did offer support with it if you needed it, but were lacking in terms of support outside work. However, most of the teachers for my subjects knew what they were doing and were very able in teaching it, with a specific few definitely being the sole reasons I got the qualifications I did. The food is pretty good and there’s a good amount of places to sit at break and lunch, however it gets very cold in the winter and last year they refused to open up the canteen to sit in. I thought this was quite a selfish decision seeing as covid had largely died down, and the students were the only ones who had to stay outside. My PSHE class skipped sex ed and lgbt relationships, two things I felt were crucial to the curriculum at the time. Phones were completely banned, and if a teacher found a phone on you that wasn’t in your bag it would get confiscated (even if you accidentally left it somewhere theyd mark it as being confiscated.) The school does offer a lot of instrument lessons done by outside teachers, as well as a lot of sports clubs and it is, for the most part, very organised in terms of schedules and events. There was, at one point, a huge problem with litter but that improved greatly after the covid lockdowns. Teachers also grew more lenient with uniform after a period of strictness, something I think is important with a school full of teenagers wanting to express themselves. Overall, it was pretty much as average as a secondary school could be- lesson wise, everything was pretty successful with decent teaching. The issues are more obvious in the social side of things and teaching the students to be kind and accepting people, something it definitely needs to work on.
This school did go through a time where it was awful, however I think since lockdown most of the teachers have really worked to make it a lot better for us and have stopped being so petty so because of there changes recently I would definitely recommend
I studied here for 5 long traumatic years. I faced bullying from students and staff and nobody did anything. I would never ever recommend this school to anybody it was awful.
